Use of the STEM to obtain precise electronic information has been hampered by the lack of energy loss analysis capable of a resolution and accuracy comparable to the 0.3eV energy width of the Field Emission Source. Recent work by Park, et. al. and earlier by Crewe, et. al. have promised magnetic sector devices that are capable of about 0.75eV resolution at collection angles (about 15mR) which are great enough to allow efficient use of the STEM probe current. These devices are also capable of 0.3eV resolution at smaller collection angles (4-5mR). The problem that arises, however, lies in the fact that, even with the collection efficiency approaching 1.0, several minutes of collection time are necessary for a good definition of a typical core loss or electronic transition. This is a result of the relatively small total beam current (1-10nA) that is available in the dedicated STEM. During this acquisition time, the STEM acceleration voltage may fluctuate by as much as 0.5-1.0V.

Some of the data collection details for compound (VIII) were incorrectly given in Table 1 of Godino Salido et al. (2004). The data for compound VIII in this paper were collected using synchrotron radiation at the Daresbury SRS station 9.8, λ = 0.6935 Å (Cernik et al., 1997; Clegg, 2000). The data were collected using a Bruker SMART 1K CCD diffractometer using ω rotation with narrow frames. The computer program used in the data collection was SMART (Bruker, 2001) and for cell refinement and data reduction SAINT (Bruker, 2001).

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a powerful technique for sensitive label-free analysis of chemical and biological samples. While much recent work has established sophisticated automation routines using machine learning and related artificial intelligence methods, these efforts have largely focused on downstream processing (e.g., classification tasks) of previously collected data. While fully automated analysis pipelines are desirable, current progress is limited by cumbersome and manually intensive sample preparation and data collection steps. Specifically, a typical lab-scale SERS experiment requires the user to evaluate the quality and reliability of the measurement (i.e., the spectra) as the data are being collected. This need for expert user-intuition is a major bottleneck that limits applicability of SERS-based diagnostics for point-of-care clinical applications, where trained spectroscopists are likely unavailable. While application-agnostic numerical approaches (e.g., signal-to-noise thresholding) are useful, there is an urgent need to develop algorithms that leverage expert user intuition and domain knowledge to simplify and accelerate data collection steps. To address this challenge, in this work, we introduce a machine learning-assisted method at the acquisition stage. We tested six common algorithms to measure best performance in the context of spectral quality judgment. For adoption into future automation platforms, we developed an open-source python package tailored for rapid expert user annotation to train machine learning algorithms. We expect that this new approach to use machine learning to assist in data acquisition can serve as a useful building block for point-of-care SERS diagnostic platforms.

This study aimed to reveal the concept of Tumbuk in Javanese gamelan tuning, namely gamêlan agêng with Sléndro and Pélog. This study used a qualitative method with an ethical emic perspective. The data collection was done by conducting literature review, observation, interviews, and studio work, then processed with data analysis. The data analysis then was followed up through data interaction by interpreting the relationship reactions of the three elements of analysis consisting of data collection, data reduction, and data presentation. The interpretation of the data was done inductively, so that the conclusion was drawn entirely from the development of the data according to the realities of the field. The results showed that tumbuk was not only limited to a note that has the same high and low, but it is a musical concept that integrates the Sléndro and Pélog scales in the tuning of a set of gamelans. There are basically only two types of tumbuk: nêm tumbuk and lima tumbuk. Other than those, it means that they are the strut. The thing is,tumbuk has a central tone that serves as a benchmark and a supporting tone whose position strengthens the integration of each type of tumbuk. As a concept, it was found that tumbuk plays several important roles including equalizing the highs and lows of certain notes, equalizing the range of certain notes, and conditioning the range of notes or the addition of the tune.
