Theoretical calculations have been done for the coherent production of pions in the exclusive reaction 12C + 12 C → 12 C (15.11 MeV) + 12C + π0 at 100 and 250 MeV/nucleon. An analysis is made on how three-body kinematics and other energy dependencies affect the various factors that enter the calculation for the pion differential cross section. Momentum and momentum-transfer diagrams are constructed that show pictorially how projectile- and target-generated pions differ in their intermediate states, even though they lead to the same final states. It is shown how three-body kinematics affect the exchange-process amplitudes that account for projectile- and target-generated pions. Also, the energy dependencies found in the delta width and phase-space factors are assessed as to their relative importance. Momentum robbing and kickback effects to the final-state nuclei from the produced pion are discussed. These effects are shown to give an asymmetry in the pion angular distribution. The study of three-body kinematics and its associated energy dependencies under the Born approximation is considered to be an important first step in the understanding of coherent pion production in heavy-ion collisions, before the complicating features of absorption and distortion are introduced. Even though the pion is much lighter than either of the two equal-mass, final-state nuclei, observable asymmetries are seen in the pion angular distribution that are caused by the produced pion.

In these proceedings, we present the latest measurements of J/ψ and ϒ by the STAR experiment. The J/ψ and ϒ production measured in p+p collisions provide new baselines for similar measurements in Au+Au collisions, while the measurements in p+Au collisions can help quantify the cold nuclear matter effects. The J/ψ υ2 is measured in both U+U and Au+Au collisions to place constraints on the amount of J/ψ arising from recombination of deconfined charm and anti-charm pairs. Furthermore, the nuclear modification factors for ground and excited ϒ states as a function of transverse momentum and centrality are presented, and compared to those measured at the LHC as well as to theoretical calculations.

The collision centrality dependencies of the average kinematical characteristics of the negative and positive pions, produced in [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text], were investigated. The ratio [Formula: see text] proved to be [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] in the peripheral, semicentral, and central [Formula: see text] collision events, respectively, decreasing noticeably with increasing collision centrality. The suppression (decrease) of the ratio [Formula: see text] was observed in the semicentral and central [Formula: see text] collisions as compared to the ratio [Formula: see text], estimated using the simple model for [Formula: see text] collision system. The ratio [Formula: see text] estimated using the simple model agreed well with the corresponding ratio [Formula: see text], estimated for [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] based on the Wounded Nucleon Model (WNM). Comparison of the emission angle as well as momentum distributions of the charged pions in the peripheral and central [Formula: see text] collisions revealed the significant decrease of the fraction of the relatively fast charged pions (with smaller emission angles) and increase of the fraction of the relatively slow charged pions (with larger emission angles) with an increase in collision centrality. The results of the present analysis can be useful for analysis of the centrality dependence of the charged pion production in heavy ion collisions at high energies.

We report a summary of recent RHIC measurements of hadron emission source structures by HBT-imaging analysis. Recent developments of the imaging technique which can be applied to two-particle correlation functions and high statistics data sets taken by RHIC experiments allow us to investigate the detailed source structures of hadron emissions, revealing an interesting characteristic that the source functions of charged pion pairs measured in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at [Formula: see text] are not the simple Gaussian shape but have non-Gaussian tails at large relative separation r. Also theoretical calculations to describe the observed non-Gaussian tails are reported.
