A theoretical analysis of steady free convective and mass transfer flow is presented when a viscous, incompressible, and electrically conducting fluid flows through a porous medium occupying a semi-infinite region of the space bounded by an infinite vertical porous plate. A magnetic field of uniform strength is applied perpendicular to the plate and the fluid is subjected to a normal suction velocity while the heat flux at the plate is constant. An analytic solution of the problem is obtained and the effects of a porous medium, a magnetic parameter, as well as the other parameter entering into the problem, are discussed and shown graphically.

An exact solution of unsteady free convective and mass transfer flow through porous medium bounded by a vertical porous plate with an oscillating free stream velocity is obtained. The entire system rotates about an axis normal to the plate. Existence of multiple Ekman boundary layer modified by the presence of free convection and mass transfer is observed near the neighbourhood of plate wall. The Dufour and Soret effects on unsteady MHD free convection and mass transfer flow past an infinite vertical porous plate embedded in a porous medium have been studied numerically. The non-linear partial differential equations, governing the problem under consideration, have been transformed by a similarity transformation into a system of ordinary differential equations, which is solved numerically by applying Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique together with sixth order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. The effects of various parameters entering into the problem have been examined on the flow field for a hydrogen-air mixture as a non-chemical reacting fluid pair. Finally, the numerical values of local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number are also presented in tabular form.
