Gamma decay of the T = 3/2 states in 25Al
The decay of the two lowest T = 3/2 levels at Ex = 7901 ± 2 and 7969 ± 2 keV in 25Al have been investigated using the 24Mg(p,γ)25Al reaction. Angular distribution and radiative yield measurements rigorously assign J = 5/2 to the lower level. J = 3/2 is consistent with the results for the upper level although J = 5/2 and 7/2 are also admissible. Any possibility of an inversion of these states as compared to the first two levels in 25Na is excluded by these results. The measured radiative yields are ωγ = 0.25 ± 0.06 and 0.40 ± 0.09 eV for the lower and upper resonances respectively. Two previously reported γ-decay branches from the upper resonance were found to be nonresonant. Comparisons to recent shell model calculations show poor agreement.
