An investigation of ferromagnetism in nickel manganese alloys containing up to 40 atomic per cent manganese has been carried out. Twenty alloys within this composition range were subjected to heat treatments such that the atomic arrangement within the alloys varied from disorder to a high degree of long range order. The degree of order of Ni3Mn calculated from measured saturation magnetization using the atomic model of ferromagnetism was consistent with the value calculated from the ratio of measured integrated intensity of the (110) X-ray diffraction superlattice line to that of line (111).The relationship between saturation magnetization and concentration for the disordered alloys can be explained adequately by the existence of short range order. A value of 3.4 Bohr magnetons for the effective magnetic moment of manganese atoms in a nickel lattice was deduced.

A series of tellurite glass containing samarium ion and silver nanoparticles with a composition of (89.6-x)TeO2-10MgO-(x)Sm2O3-0.4AgCl with 0.2 ≤ x ≤ 1.0mol% have been synthesized by a conventional melt quenching technique. The X-ray diffraction pattern verified the amorphous nature of glasses. A systematic study on the relationship between Sm2O3 concentration and the physical properties of the glass has been made. The effect on the progressive replacement of TeO2 by Sm2O3 on density, molar volume, refractive index and electronic polarisability has been investigated. The results show that density and ionic packing density are in the range of 4.91-5.04 g cm-3 and 0.444 – 0.455, respectively, increases as the amount of Sm2O3 is increased up to 0.8 mol% and decrease afterward. However, the molar volume which is in between, 29.59-30.26 m3 mol-1 decreasing as the amount of Sm2O3 is increased up to 0.8 mol% and increase thereafter. Meanwhile the refractive index which is deduced from optical energy band gap is found to possess a value in the range of 2.37 to 2.45 and electronic polarisability is in the range of 7.14-7.51Å3. All the results will be discussed with respect to the glass composition.

Abstract In general, extension of an elastomer results in a degree of preferred orientation of the molecular chains composing the amorphous phase. Therefore the amorphous fraction of a partially crystalline elastomer must be related to the integrated intensity of the amorphous diffraction halo rather than to the intensity at any one azimuth. A noteworthy exception is natural rubber, for which simple meridional measurements suffice. A Geiger-counter apparatus, with beam monitor and temperature-controlling accessories, is described for making accurate measurements of the x-ray intensities scattered at any azimuth and at small or moderate Bragg angles. Measurements of crystallinity in natural rubber are in essential agreement with the findings of previous workers. When polybutadiene is extended at room temperature, molecular orientation occurs, but little if any crystallization. Measurements at lowered temperatures show that the crystalline fraction becomes appreciable at about 0° C and that it increases with further reduction of temperature and with increasing extension ratio. Preferred orientation of the crystalline regions in extended polybutadiene has been measured quantitatively with the object of providing jointly with birefringence measurements a value of the birefringence of a single crystal of polybutadiene.

This work aims to investigate the relationship between the microstructure of Ni-Zn ferrite and its electrical and magnetic properties in the presence and absence of as small amounts as 0.12% of 0.4CaO + 0.8SiO2over different sintering times. The X-ray diffraction pattern showed a single spinel phase formation in all the samples. The results indicate that grain growth occurred by increasing sintering time from 15 to 270 min in the two types of samples prepared in this study although it was greatly impeded by the additive oxides. Moreover, the oxides increase the resistivity of the ferrite and decrease its zinc loss. Magnetic properties such as induction magnetization (BS) and saturation magnetization (MS) decreased in the presence of the additives while its coercivity (HC) increased. Finally, the density of the samples was observed to increase with increasing sintering time in both types of the samples but with a higher value in the samples with no additives.

ABSTRACTBlending the biopolymer chitosan (CHI) with poly (aminopropilsiloxane) oligomers (pAPS), and poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) in the presence of lithium perchlorate lead to ion conducting products whose conductivity depends on the composition of the mixture. A ternary phase diagram for mixtures containing 0.2 M LiClO4 shows a zone in which the physical properties of the products - transparent, flexible, mechanically robust films - indicate a high degree of molecular compatibilization of the components. Comparison of these films with binary CHI-pAPS nanocomposites as well as the microscopic aspect, thermal behavior, and X-ray diffraction pattern of the product with the composition PEO/CHI/pAPS/LiClO4 1:0.5:0.6:0.2 molar ratio indicates that these films may be described as a layered nanocomposite. In this composite, lithium species coordinated by PEO and pAPS should be inserted into chitosan layers. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements indicate the films are pure ionic conductors with a maximal bulk conductivity of 1.7*10-5 Scm-1 at 40 °C and a sample-electrode interface capacitance of about 1.2*10-9 F.

Statistical processing of the generated MS "Excel" on indicators of non-specific resistance database was carried out with the aim of studying the dynamics of the development of immunity in terms of bactericidal, lysozyme and phagocytic activity in black-and-white cattle of different ages. It was found that the average values of indicators of lysozyme and bactericidal activity in calves at 6 months were lower (47.89% and 49.09%, respectively) than in animals at the age of 3—4 years (53.75% and 52.81%). The equation of regression was derived, it describes the relationship between the average indicators of phagocytic activity and the age with a high degree of reliability (R2=0.90). The changes in lysozyme and bactericidal activity depending on age were dubious (R2=0.58 and R2=0.49, respectively). The high correlation between bactericidal and lysozyme activity was established. It was noticed that the cows of different age groups experienced the dynamics of changes in nonspecific immunity. The creation of databases and constant monitoring of the main indicators of natural resistance, depending on various factors (breed, age, stages of lactation, feeding, methods of keeping) that affect these indicators, is necessary for assessing the physiological state of the animals’ body of and their resistance to diseases.

The purposes of this study were to determine the effect of different work rates on the rate of liver glycogenolysis and to determine the relationship between liver adenosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cAMP) levels and the glycogenolytic rate. Rats were run at treadmill speeds ranging from 10 to 34 m/min up a 15% grade for either 30 or 60 min. Both the magnitude of the decrease in liver glycogen and the increase in hepatic cAMP were dependent on the running speed and the duration of running. At the highest work rate a disproportionate acceleration in the liver glycogenolytic rate was observed compared with that at lower work loads, thus resulting in a curvilinear relationship between work rate and liver glycogenolytic rate. A high degree of correlation was found between the liver glycogenolytic rate and hepatic cAMP concentration (r = 0.98). This observation is consistent with the idea that hepatic glycogenolytic rates are determined by cAMP-mediated mechanisms.

We report the synthesis of room temperature (RT) stabilized γ–Bi2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) at the expense of metallic Bi NPs through annealing in an ambient atmosphere. RT stability of the metastable γ–Bi2O3 NPs is confirmed using synchrotron radiation powder X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. γ–Bi2O3 NPs exhibited a strong red-band emission peaking at ~701 nm, covering 81% integrated intensity of photoluminescence spectra. Our findings suggest that the RT stabilization and enhanced red-band emission of γ‒Bi2O3 is mediated by excess oxygen ion vacancies generated at the octahedral O(2) sites during the annealing process.

The Indo-Pacific region is now home to at least two competing regionalism road maps, China’s Belt Road Initiative (BRI) and Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision (FOIP). Through comparing their respective development trajectories, this article examines the relationship between these two regionalisation initiatives. Key lines of enquiry include the following: Is the interaction between the BRI and the FOIP Vision reactive, proactive or both? Why has each initiative changed its trajectory? How can we characterise these competing initiatives? This article employs a regionalism matrix analysis that compares two different approaches, integration from a ‘rational-legal perspective’ with an emphasis on broad cooperation and state sovereignty from a ‘process-oriented perspective’ with a focus on exact goals. It finds that the BRI focuses on both a high degree of state sovereignty based on a ‘process-oriented perspective’ and exact cooperation. In contrast, FOIP stresses integration through a ‘rational-legal perspective’, broad cooperation and a shared rules-based order. Furthermore, there is a reactive interplay between these two regionalism frameworks that shapes their orientation and influences their focus.
