We show here a mesoscopic device based on a narrow ring containing an electron. In the device, an amount of energy is stored in advance. Similar to a pendulum, an exact periodic motion of the electron is thereby initiated. The motion appears as a series of sharp pulses and is in nature different from the well-known Aharonov–Bohm (A–B) oscillation. In particular, the current pulses can be tuned to be very strong (say, more than two orders of magnitude stronger than the usual A–B current). Related theory and numerical results are presented.

We theoretically investigate the transmission probability and the persistent current in an open quantum ring threaded by the magnetic flux. From the numerical results, we find that the two observable quantities both show a periodic characteristic with the increase of the magnetic flux, and they strongly depend on the dimensionless wave vector and the central angle as well as the magnetic flux.

The Aharonov–Bohm oscillations of the persistent current and the energy gap are investigated with consideration of the bond length dependent hopping parameters.

Quantum topological effects like Aharonov–Bohm and Aharonov–Casher effects in the metallic ring with a localized impurity are studied. The impurity couples with the conduction electrons by exchange and correlated hybridized interactions. It is shown that the impurity changes the charge and spin persistent current oscillations (the magnitudes and the periods) in contrast with the normal metal situation.
