The Hibernia oil field, 315 km southeast of St. John's, Newfoundland, was discovered in 1979. It is located on the Grand Banks in 80 m of water and is estimated to contain about 525 million barrels of recoverable oil. A concrete gravity base structure is being built to develop the reservoir. This paper discusses the method of constructing a gravity base structure and the development of the construction site at Bull Arm in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. In particular, the organization of Site Development Engineering is outlined. Then the construction of the dry dock berm, the main marine quays, and the accommodation camp is discussed. A quantitative analysis of economic risk associated with large investments in offshore oil and gas field development and production is presented. The analysis is intended as a supporting tool in decision-making faced with uncertainty and risk, to study the effect of alternative decisions in an easy manner. The descriptors for the project assessment, such as the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net Present Value (NPV) are applied. The study demonstrates first the impacts of early pilot production (EPP) prior to a main oil field development on the field economy of an oil field development and production installation. Furthermore, the result of cases which reflect relevant situations connected with cost overruns are presented, as well as derivation of rational decision criteria for termination/continuation of a project subjected to cost overruns. Finally, an oil field development project scheduling is demonstrated.

To be relevant to the 21st Century Learner’s needs, Taylor’s University (TU), a private university in Malaysia, revamped its curriculum to be learner-centred. The Malaysian Studies 3 (MS3) course aimed to be the exemplar module site for future module site development for learning at scale (L@S). The learners are undergraduate students, taking MS3 as an elective. In the two design experiments, the learner’s experience was examined using a focus group after undergoing a 14-weeks of L@S entirely online in Taylor’s Integrated Moodle eLearning System (TIMeS). This design-case seeks to investigate the learner’s experience of (1) usability and (2) learning. Two prototypes of MS3 were developed and tested. For the tryouts, Cohort 1 as pre-test and Cohort 2 as post-test after implementing the LDS framework model as a tool to guide learning design in the design refinement. In conclusion, the findings showed ‘teacher presence’, and ‘technical issues’ are the two major themes that influence learners’ positive experience. To ensure positive learning experience, course instructors must ensure engagement with learners is purposefully designed. The study contributes to design based implementation research (DBIR) under the umbrella of design and development research (DDR), and the practical problem in a module development project for L@S.

Student dormitories are the residential neighborhood as student residences during their lectures. The dorms are increasing as students access different regions to study at a university. Medan city has several dorms which one is of Medan State University. This student dormitory is a special dormitory for male students of Medan State University who come from areas in North Sumatra. The condition of the dormitories is considered inadequate as a Student dormitories capacity is less than required. The existing student dormitory facilities are not complete for student dormitory facilities. It is necessary to design the male student dormitory of Medan State University. In this design, the Medan State University male student dormitory requires additional supporting facilities around the student dormitory and good building conditions. The location of the building is in the educational Area on Jalan William Iskandar Pasar V, New Memories, Percut Sei Tuan. The Male Student Dormitories applies green architecture with a basic concept approach to land use which is considered to respect every criterion contained in the land, made as comfortable as possible, responsive to the factors evaluated at the construction site.

Abstract In the marginal gas field development engineering, considering the low gas production with complex reservoir condition, it is difficult to develop independently because of the low economic efficiency. It is usually developed by relying on an existing offshore platform or facility nearby, in which hydrate inhibition is an important issue, and in order to inhibit hydrate formation in the subsea pipeline, hydrate inhibition method should be studied. Based on certain marginal gas field development project in South China Sea, which relies on nearby DPP platform, the paper studies methanol and MEG as inhibitor and application of double-layer insulated subsea pipeline. Finally by technical and economic comparisons, for the first time double-layer insulated pipeline is selected as the hydrate inhibition method to meet requirements of both relying on DPP and achieving better economic benefits, which is expected to provide reference for similar marginal gas field development.
