This paper presents results of an experimental investigation into the effect of flange geometry on the shear strength of point-loaded, reinforced concrete T-beams. A procedure to normalise the ultimate strength and calculate a concrete contribution is implemented. This is used to discuss the effect of varying the ratio of flange width to web width and the ratio of flange depth to effective depth on the shear strength of a reinforced concrete T-beam. An increase in the ratio of flange width to web width is shown to produce an accompanying increase in the ultimate strength of a reinforced concrete T-beam, providing the ratio of flange depth to effective depth is above a certain minimum value. This increase in shear resistance with an increase in the ratio of flange width to web width continues until the flange is wide enough to allow formation of a failure mechanism whereby the load point punches through the flange.Key words: shear, T-beams, flange, reinforcing, strength, failure mechanisms.

AbstractThe shear span-to-effective depth ratio (a/d) is one of the factors governing the shear behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams, with or without shear reinforcement. In high-strength concrete (HSC), cracks may propagate between the aggregate particles and result in a brittle failure which is against the philosophy of most design guidelines. The experimental results of six HSC beams, with and without shear reinforcement, tested under four-point bending with a/d ranged from 2.0 to 3.0 are presented and compared with different model equations in design codes. The a/d ratio has higher influence on the shear strength of reinforced HSC beams without shear reinforcement than beams with shear reinforcement. Most of the shear resistance prediction models underestimate the concrete shear strength of the beams but overpredict shear resistance of beams with shear reinforcement. However, the fib Model code 2010 accurately predicted the shear resistance for all the beams within an appropriate level of approximation (LoA).

In this research, an experimental study is conducted to investigate the behavior and strength of high strength reinforced concrete corbels externally bonded with CFRP fabric sheets and Plates with different patterns taking into account the effect of adopted variables in enhancing the ultimate strength; the effect of shear span to effective depth (a/d), configuration, type and amount of bonding. Eleven high strength reinforced corbels were cast and tested under vertical loads. Test results showed there was an improvement in the behavior and load carrying capacity of all strengthened corbels. An increasing in the ultimate strength of strengthened corbel by inclined CFRP strips reached to (92.1%) while the increasing reached to (84.21%) for using one horizontal CFRP Plates compared to un-strengthened reference specimen. Also, it can be conducted that the increase of (a/d) ratio from (0.6 to 0.8) resulted in decreasing by 21.05% in ultimate load capacity of corbels and from (0.4 to 0.6) by 31.25% and 58.69% in cracking and ultimate loads respectively Using CFRP .

Shear strength prediction of simple deep reinforced concrete beams by method of strut-and-tie model is presented in this paper. The tested specimens were designed according to Appendix A of ACI 318-11 code with variations of shear span-to-effective depth ratios and ratios of horizontal and vertical crack-controlling reinforcement. Test results revealed that at the same shear span-to-effective depth ratio, the various crack-controlling reinforcements significantly influenced on strength reduction coefficients of strut and failure modes. When the shear span-to-effective depth ratios were increased, failure modes changed from splitting diagonal strut to flexural-shear failure. Based on the test results, the proposed model was compared with Appendix A of ACI 318-11code.

This study presents shear resistance of precast reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls. A novel assembling method for upper and lower wall panels is proposed, whereas vertical steel bars are grouped into bundles and effectively connected in preformed holes. To evaluate the feasibility and shear resistance of such a connection method, three specimens of precast shear walls with different horizontal steel bars have been constructed and tested under monotonic loading while subjected to a constant vertical compression. The results show that cracks mainly appear under the line that connects the midpoint of tension side and the corner of the compression side. The weak section of these shear walls is at the top of the preformed holes, and through cracks do not appear at the bottom of walls. These innovative precast shear walls are reliable, and no rebar is pulled out or seriously slipped. The yield load of the shear wall is great, and the stage between yield and failure is satisfactory. The bearing capacity declines slowly after the peak value.

Warp-knitted brush fabrics are composed of an outer surface formed by weaving the front and rear needle beds with spacer yarns interposed between them. Warp-knitted brush fabrics can be used as a non-slip cover for car seat cushions; the adhesion between non-slip fabric and car seat is related to the shear strength of warp-knitted brush fabrics. In this article, to study the factors affecting the shear force of warp-knitted brush fabrics, three different processing methods and four different stretching speed intervals were used to find the effects of stiffeners and action of different speed intervals on shear properties of fabrics. The experimental results show that the stiffener treatment can improve the shear resistance of the warp-knitted brush fabrics, and the effect of different speed intervals can affect the shear resistance of fabrics. These findings will have a guiding significance in the design and production of warp-knitted brush fabrics applied to fabrics such as car seat cushions, and the results can also help to study the shear properties of warp-knitted brush fabrics for wider applications.

Abstract:In order to study Force Performance of new column, the paper describes and presents the results of nine stub-column tests performed on partially encased composite columns made with welded H-section steel. The test studies effect of column about ultimate strength in s steel ratio, wide-thickness ratio of wing, Space of Horizontal bar. Through anglicizing, ultimate strength of short column under axial compression in different steel ratio; influenced factors of ultimate strength of short column and directly effected column about ultimate strength.
