Nonlinear dynamic image-based visual servoing of a quadrotor

This paper proposes a dynamic image-based visual servoing (IBVS) control law for a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a single fixed on-board camera facing downward. The motion control problem is to regulate the relative lateral position of the vehicle to a stationary target located on the ground. The control law is termed dynamic as it is based on the dynamics and kinematics of the vehicle. The proposed design uses a nonlinear input-dependent change of state coordinates and its error dynamics are proven to be locally exponentially stable with an estimate provided for the region of attraction. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate the method's ease of on-board implementation, performance, and robustness. The simulation and experimental results include a comparison with an established dynamic IBVS method. This comparison shows the proposed method can provide similar performance with the benefit of reduced complexity.

This paper presents a dynamic image-based visual servoing (IBVS) control law for a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a single fixed on-board camera. The motion control problem is to regulate the relative position and yaw of the vehicle to a moving planar target located within the camera’s field of view. The control law is termed dynamic as it’s based on the dynamics of the vehicle. To simplify the kinematics and dynamics, the control law relies on the notion of a virtual camera and image moments as visual features. The convergence of the closed-loop is proven to be globally asymptotically stable for a horizontal target. In the case of nonhorizontal targets, we modify the control using a homography decomposition. Experimental and simulation results demonstrate the control law’s performance.

Synchronization of chaotic neurons under external electrical stimulation (EES) is studied in order to understand information processing in the brain and to improve the methodologies employed in the treatment of cognitive diseases. This paper investigates the dynamics of uncertain coupled chaotic delayed FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neurons under EES for incorporated parametric variations. A global nonlinear control law for synchronization of delayed neurons with known parameters is developed. Based on local and global Lipschitz conditions, knowledge of the bounds on the neuronal states, the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, and theL2gain reduction, a less conservative local robust nonlinear control law is formulated to address the problem of robust asymptotic synchronization of delayed FHN neurons under parametric uncertainties. The proposed local control law guarantees both robust stability and robust performance and provides theL2bound for uncertainty rejection in the synchronization error dynamics. Separate conditions for single-input and multiple-input control schemes for synchronization of a wide class of FHN systems are provided. The results of the proposed techniques are verified through numerical simulations.

This paper proposes a Gaussian process based visual servoing framework for an aerial parallel manipulator. Our aerial parallel manipulator utilizes the on-board eye-in-hand vision sensor system attached on the end-effector of three-degrees-of-freedom parallel manipulator. There are three major advantages: small, light in weight, and linearity with respect to the host vehicle rather than the serial manipulator, but it has a critical drawback that its workspace is too small to perform the mission itself during the hovering. In order to overcome the limited workspace problem and perform the mission more actively, proposed visual servoing framework is proposed to generate relative body velocity commands of the host vehicle by using the interpolated and extrapolated feature path between the initial and desired features to fed into the underactuated aerial parallel manipulator. It can generate not only numerical stable but also feasible control input. Furthermore, it can overcome the weakness of the traditional image-based visual servoing such as singularities, uncertainties, and local minimums during calculating image Jacobian under the large disparity environment between the target and the unmanned aerial vehicle. As a result of the proposed contribution, we show that our contribution is reliable to perform the picking-and-replacement autonomously, and it shows that it can be applied in the large displacement environments throughout the flight test.

This paper describes our work on a small, hand-launched, solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) suitable for low temperatures and high altitudes, which has the perpetual flight potential for conservation missions for rare animals in the plateau area in winter. Firstly, the conceptual design method of a small, solar-powered UAV based on energy balance is proposed, which is suitable for flight in high-altitude and low-temperature area. The solar irradiance model, which can reflect the geographical location and time, was used. Based on the low-temperature discharge test of the battery, a battery weight model considering the influence of low temperature on the battery performance was proposed. Secondly, this paper introduces the detailed design of solar UAV for plateau area, including layout design, structure design, load, and avionics. To increase the proportion of solar cells covered, the ailerons were removed and a rudder was used to control both roll and yaw. Then, the dynamics model of an aileron-free layout UAV was developed, and the differences in maneuverability and stability of aileron-free UAV in plateau and plain areas were analyzed. The control law and trajectory tracking control law were designed for the aileron-free UAV. Finally, the flight test was conducted in Qiangtang, Tibet, at an altitude of 4500 m, China’s first solar-powered UAV to take off and land above 4500 m on the plateau in winter (−30 °C). The test data showed the success of the scheme, validated the conceptual design method and the success of the control system for aileron-free UAV, and analyzed the feasibility of perpetual flight carrying different loads according to the flight energy consumption data.

This paper presents a discrete-time adaptive sliding control method for SISO nonlinear systems with a bounded disturbance or unmodeled dynamics. Control and adaptation laws considering input saturation are obtained from approximately discretized nonlinear systems. The developed disturbance adaptation or estimation law is in a discrete-time form, and differs from that of conventional adaptive sliding mode control. The closed-loop poles of the feedback linearized sliding surface and the adaptation error dynamics can easily be placed. It can be shown that the adaptation error dynamics can be decoupled from sliding surface dynamics using the proposed scheme. The proposed control law is applied to speed tracking control of an automatic engine subject to unknown external loads. Simulation and experimental results verify the advantages of the proposed control law.

This paper presents a novel suboptimal attitude tracking controller based on the algebraic Riccati equation for a near-space hypersonic vehicle (NSHV). Since the NSHV’s attitude dynamics is complexly nonlinear, it is hard to directly construct an appropriate algebraic Riccati equation. We design the construction based on the Chebyshev series and the Koopman operator theory, which includes three steps. First, the Chebyshev series are considered to transform the error dynamics of the NSHV’s attitude into a polynomial system. Second, the Koopman operator is used to obtain a series of high-dimensional linear dynamics to approximate each of the polynomial system’s vector fields. In this step, our contribution is to determine a well-posed linear dynamics with the minimal dimension to approximate the original nonlinear vector field, which helps to design the control law and analyze the control performance. Third, based on the high-dimensional dynamics, the NSHV’s attitude error dynamics is separated into the linear part and the nonlinear part, such that the algebraic Riccati equation can be constructed according to the linear part. Then, the suboptimal error feedback control law is derived from the algebraic Riccati equation. The closed-loop control system is proved to be locally exponentially stable. Finally, the numerical simulation demonstrates the effectiveness of the suboptimal control law.
