Effects of ontogeny, season, and temperature on the swimming performance of juvenile green sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris)

Because some salmonids show decreased swimming performance (Ucrit) during their parr-smolt transformation, we tested the hypothesis that juvenile anadromous green sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris) decrease Ucrit during their analogous ontogenetic stage. Juvenile green sturgeon (mean age: 98 days) that had not reached seawater tolerance had a positive relationship of Ucrit (cm·s–1) with total length (TL), whereas seawater-tolerant sturgeon (mean age: 150 days) had a negative relationship of Ucrit with TL. This Ucrit decrease was presumably seasonal because a similar-sized group of fish tested later (mean age: 288 days) showed a linear increase in Ucrit with TL. Smaller sturgeon displayed both morphological (larger relative pectoral fin surface areas) and behavioral (rostrum wedging and pectoral fin holding) attributes for station holding in a riverine environment. In a second experiment to test the effects of increased river temperature near the predicted time of downstream migration, Ucrit and heat-shock protein concentrations increased at 24 °C compared with at 19 °C (mean age: 155 days). Thus, although there was evidence for cellular stress, the swimming ability of the fish was not compromised. Therefore, water velocity, temperature, and time of year should be considered in life-stage-specific efforts to manage or protect green sturgeon.

The objectives of this research are to evaluate acoustic environments and to forecast STI values from spatial component variables in the large classrooms of the Thai public university that were specially controlled the same room finishing materials including the floor, walls, and ceiling. Whereas the five spatial component factors included (1) Room Volume (RV), (2) Ceiling Height (CH), (3) the Ratio of Depth to Width (Rdw), (4) Total Room Surface (TS), and (5) Percentage of Absorbing Surface areas (PAS). The research tools were the smartphones that used the applications for acoustical evaluation and speech intelligibility analysis. The Speech Transmission Index (STI), Reverberation Time (RT), and Background Noise Level (BNL) were collected by the calibrated microphone in the nine points distributed across the entire room. And also, the sounds for testing were simulated such as balloon burst, and STIPA signal via a sound generator. The Thailand Speech Intelligibility (T-SI) model was developed by the multiple regression analysis with a statistical at a confidence level of 95%.The results showed that this T-SI model depended on the strongly positive relationship of PAS and the slightly positive relationship of CH, TS while the RV, Rdw were slightly the negative relationship and which predicted STI values. Moreover, the highest affecting variable of T-SI model was CH and the lowest was PAS. However, this research implies that the improving room acoustic quality would be adjusting the sound absorbing surface areas i.e., increase the cloth curtain or appropriate methods.

Abstract Reversing global declines in the abundance and diversity of fishes is dependent on science-based conservation solutions. A wealth of data exist on the ecophysiological constraints of many fishes, but much of this information is underutilized in recovery plans due to a lack of synthesis. Here, we used the imperiled green sturgeon (Acipenser medirostris) as an example of how a quantitative synthesis of physiological data can inform conservation plans, identify knowledge gaps and direct future research actions. We reviewed and extracted metadata from peer-reviewed papers on green sturgeon. A total of 105 publications were identified, spanning multiple disciplines, with the primary focus being conservation physiology (23.8%). A meta-analytical approach was chosen to summarize the mean effects of prominent stressors (elevated temperatures, salinity, low food availability and contaminants) on several physiological traits (growth, thermal tolerance, swimming performance and heat shock protein expression). All examined stressors significantly impaired green sturgeon growth, and additional stressor-specific costs were documented. These findings were then used to suggest several management actions, such as mitigating salt intrusion in nursery habitats and maintaining water temperatures within optimal ranges during peak spawning periods. Key data gaps were also identified; research efforts have been biased towards juvenile (38.1%) and adult (35.2%) life-history stages, and less data are available for early life-history stages (embryonic, 11.4%; yolk-sac larvae, 12.4%; and post yolk-sac larvae, 16.2%). Similarly, most data were collected from single-stressor studies (91.4%) and there is an urgent need to understand interactions among stressors as anthropogenic change is multi-variate and dynamic. Collectively, these findings provide an example of how meta-analytic reviews are a powerful tool to inform management actions, with the end goal of maximizing conservation gains from research efforts.

The present study was an endeavor to extend the literature of perceived organizational politics by examining its moderating role between the relationship of organizational citizenship behavior and production deviance. Organizational Citizenship Behavior Scale (Mackenzie, Podsakoff, & Paine, 1999), Production Deviance sub-scale of Counterproductive Work Behavior Checklist-32 (Spector et al., 2006), and Perception of Organizational Politics Scale (Kacmar & Carlson, 1997) were used in present study. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that low levels of perceived organizational politics moderated the relationship between courtesy and production deviance by strengthening the negative relationship of these behaviors while perceived organizational politics did not act as a moderator for the relationship of civic virtue and conscientiousness with production deviance. High level of go-along-to-get-ahead as a moderator strengthened the relationship of civic virtue and conscientiousness with production deviance and its low level was found to be moderating the relationship between courtesy and production deviance. Future implications of the study were also discussed.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is characterized by social anxiety/fear, self-attention, and interoception. Functional magnetic resonance imaging studies demonstrate increased activity during symptom-sensitive tasks in regions of the default-mode network (DMN), amygdala (AMG), and salience network (SN). What is the source of this task-unspecific symptom-sensitive hyperactivity in DMN? We address this question by probing SAD resting state (rs) changes in DMN including their relation to other regions as possible source of task-unspecific hyperactivity in the same regions. Our findings show the following: (1) rs-hypoconnectivity within-DMN regions; (2) rs-hyperconnectivity between DMN and AMG/SN; (3) task-evoked hyperactivity in the abnormal rs-regions of DMN and AMG/SN during different symptom-sensitive tasks; (4) negative relationship of rest and task changes in especially anterior DMN regions as their rs-hypoconnectivity is accompanied by task-unspecific hyperactivity; (5) abnormal top-down/bottom-up modulation between anterior DMN regions and AMG during rest and task. Findings demonstrate that rs-hypoconnectivity among DMN regions is negatively related to task-unspecific hyperactivity in DMN and AMG/SN. We propose a model of “Topography of the Anxious Self” in SAD (TAS-SAD). Abnormal DMN-AMG/SN topography during rest, as trait feature of an “unstable social self”, is abnormally aggravated during SAD-sensitive situations resulting in task-related hyperactivity in the same regions with an “anxious self” as state feature.

The Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) has included a 4-level risk tolerance measure since 1983. In 2016, the SCF also included an 11-level risk tolerance measure. We compare the two measures, and develop suggestions for using the new measure. While the new measure is seemingly simpler than the old measure, we demonstrate that it does not have a monotonic relationship with owning stock assets, with a pattern similar to the relationship of the old measure to stock ownership. We also identify complex patterns of factors related to different levels of the new measure, for instance education has a negative relationship at one level but positive at another level. Those using the new measure should consider the complex patterns we demonstrate.

This study aims to analyze the green CSR  of innovation performance  with firms approval variables  and public visibility   can support moderating the relationship of green CSR  and innovation. The research sample was 33 manufacturing companies. The results showed that the  green CSR has a positive and significant effect on innovation . Also, the company approval variable has been proven to moderate the direction of a positive relationship between green CSR and innovation . The results also prove that public visibility is proven to moderate the direction of the negative relationship between green CSR and performance. This study provide information that shows great concern for the environment; it will increase the company in making changes through innovation activities. Also, the higher the company's approval and public visibility, the company will get support from various stakeholders to run the firms. The level of company concern for CSR activities will be a misjudgment for investors.

Socioeconomic status of person has an important role to child development. Social economy can affect physical health, mental wellbeing and cognitive development. One of the growing disorders of attention disorder and hyperactivity disorder was characterized by hyperactive, impulsive and lack of attention. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of socioeconomic status of parents at risk of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to preschoolers in Klaten District. This study uses categorical comparative design with cross sectional approach. Respondents of this study were 84, that divided into two places, there were ABA TK Lor Sabrang Trucuk and TKIT Mutiara Hati so that every kindergarten 42 respondents obtained by purposive sampling. Data was collection by filling the instrument. Bivariate  analysis using test Chi Square. The results showed the average age of respondents were 5.25 years. The sex of the respondents is mostly male as many as 47 children or 56.0%. Test results Chi square show there is a relationship of socio-economic status of parents with ADHD (p = 0.036) and there is a different between low socioeconomic status and high that lower socioeconomic status is a risk of ADHD (25,6%) compared with high socioeconomic status (6,7%). There is a negative relationship between socioeconomic status and the risk of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder in pre-school age children.

Abstract To determine effects of cow BCS and calving season on calf vigor and size and the relationship of calf size with vigor, 310 multiparous and primiparous beef cows (age: 4.6 ± 2.2 yr; BW: 663 ± 86 kg; BCS: 5.3 ± 0.6) from 3 spring (2015, 2016, 2017) and 4 fall (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019) calving seasons were observed during parturition. Time to stand (n = 191) was determined as minutes from birth to standing successfully for 5 sec. Within 24 h, calf BW (n = 187) and size [shoulder to tailhead length (STL), heart girth (HG), and abdominal girth (AG; n = 154)] were recorded. Data were analyzed using a mixed model containing effects of calving season (spring and fall), BCS category (< 5, =5, ≥6), and their interaction. Correlations were determined between time to stand and calf measurements separately for spring (n = 79) versus fall (n = 111). Cows with BCS < 5 gave birth to lighter (P = 0.02) calves that tended to have a faster (P ≤ 0.13) time to stand than =5 and ≥6. Calves from cows with BCS ≥6 tended to have greater (P ≤ 0.09) STL than =5 and < 5. Calves from cows with BCS < 5 had smaller (P = 0.13) HG than =5. Fall-born calves tended to have smaller (P ≤ 0.06) BW, HG, and AG than spring-born calves. Within fall calves, there tended to be a positive relationship (r = 0.16; P = 0.09) between time to stand and calf BW. Despite this, spring calves had a negative relationship (r = -0.26; P = 0.02) between time to stand and calf BW. In conclusion, cow BCS and calving season affect calf size and may affect calf vigor. These data suggest that calving season may dictate the relationship between calf vigor and size.
