Digital Filtering of Deep Crustal Seismic Reflections

Seismic reflections at near-vertical incidence from within the lower crust were recorded along a 90 km continuous profile in southern Alberta. The digitized seismograms were filtered as a means of improving signal-to-noise ratios. Zero-phase bandpass filtering improves the quality of the records but also introduces a disadvantage; the narrow pass bands cause the filtered seismograms to become more oscillatory and exclusion of the higher frequencies destroys some of the record character which is useful in phase correlation. Velocity filtering is shown to be a more effective means of delineating individual reflection events, particularly if their apparent velocities vary widely. A record section compiled from such filtered data indicates a considerable number of reflecting horizons at various depths in the lower crust. When the reflections are migrated and a "wiggle" structure section compiled, the complexity of the lower crust in southern Alberta is revealed. Vertical relief reaches as much as 9 km over a horizontal distance of 40 km and lateral changes in the layered system can be noted.

Traditional evolution algorithms tend to start the search from scratch. However, real-world problems seldom exist in isolation and humans effectively manage and execute multiple tasks at the same time. Inspired by this concept, the paradigm of multi-task evolutionary computation (MTEC) has recently emerged as an effective means of facilitating implicit or explicit knowledge transfer across optimization tasks, thereby potentially accelerating convergence and improving the quality of solutions for multi-task optimization problems. An increasing number of works have thus been proposed since 2016. The authors collect the abundant specialized literature related to this novel optimization paradigm that was published in the past five years. The quantity of papers, the nationality of authors, and the important professional publications are analyzed by a statistical method. As a survey on state-of-the-art of research on this topic, this review article covers basic concepts, theoretical foundation, basic implementation approaches of MTEC, related extension issues of MTEC, and typical application fields in science and engineering. In particular, several approaches of chromosome encoding and decoding, intro-population reproduction, inter-population reproduction, and evaluation and selection are reviewed when developing an effective MTEC algorithm. A number of open challenges to date, along with promising directions that can be undertaken to help move it forward in the future, are also discussed according to the current state. The principal purpose is to provide a comprehensive review and examination of MTEC for researchers in this community, as well as promote more practitioners working in the related fields to be involved in this fascinating territory.

Нейротехнологии стали эффективным средством, позволяющим трансформировать образовательный процесс за счет подбора специального учебного контента с учетом индивидуальных особенностей обучающихся. Вместе с тем возникает необходимость в конкретизации терминологии и определении актуальных направлений исследований в данной области. For a long time, the study of the brain capabilities for the improvement of the quality of education has been an urgent direction in pedagogical science. Due to the development of digitalization, new areas of research have emerged related to the use of special equipment that makes it possible to assess and control brainwork, develop mental abilities, cognitive functions, etc. One of them is neurotechnology, which is an effective means of transforming the educational process: it offers educational content based on the individual characteristics of students. Thus, a need to concretize the terminology and determine the current research areas arises. The article aims to attempt to fill this gap with the help of a representative analysis of publications on neurotechnologies, as well as the essence of neuroeducation.

<p>The proportion of critically ill patients from neurosurgery wards in hospitals is significantly higher than that from other departments. These patients suffer from low immune. At the same time, because of the severe trauma after surgery and the complexity of pathogens in patients, antibiotics are frequently used. However, the of bacterial drug resistance is relatively high because of the particularity of hospitals, which is a major reason for the high infection rate of neurosurgery patients. Therefore, regarding to these risk factors, intervention measures should be actively explored in hospitals, so as to control the infection rate, reduce the possibility of infection in neurosurgery patients, improve the rehabilitation efficiency of patients, and reduce unnecessary suffering of patients caused by infection. This is also an effective means to improve the quality of hospital medical care. </p>

ABSTRACT Introduction Human motor dysfunction can affect the quality of life, especially waist dysfunction. And an effective means to improve muscle strength during exercise. Object This article compares and analyzes the effectiveness of human muscle exercise on the decline in quality of life caused by motor dysfunction. Method The article divides patients with motor dysfunction into trunk isokinetic training group (experimental group) and waist and abdominal muscle functional training group (control group), and comparative analysis of related indicators before and after treatment. Results Before treatment, the specific indicators of the two were different (P>0.05). After treatment, the patients’ quality of life indicators and motor function indicators were significantly different (P<0.05). Conclusion Exercise has an obvious curative effect for patients with human motor dysfunction, and it is worthy of clinical promotion. The advances in computer and communication technologies made possible an ubiquitous computing environment were clients equipped with portable devices can send and receive data anytime and from anyplace. Due to the asymmetry in communication and the scarceness of wireless resources, data broadcast is widely employed as an effective means in delivering data to the mobile clients. For reasons like heterogeneous communication capabilities and variable quality of service offerings, we may need to divide a single wireless channel into multiple physical or logical channels. Thus, we need efficient algorithms for placing the broadcast data into these multiple channels so as to reduce the client access time. The present chapter discusses algorithms for placing broadcast data to multiple wireless channels, which cannot be coalesced into a lesser number of high-bandwidth channels, assuming that there are no dependencies among the transmitted data. We give an algorithm for obtaining the optimal placement to the channels and explain its limitation since it is computationally very demanding and thus unfeasible. Then, we present heuristic schemes for obtaining suboptimal solutions to the problem of reporting on their implementation cost and their relative performance.

Investigation of signals reflected from earth’s surface and its crust helps in understanding its core structure. Wavelet transforms is one of the sophisticated tools for analyzing the seismic reflections. In the present work a synthetic seismic signal contaminated with noise is synthesized  and analyzed using Ormsby wavelet[1]. The wavelet transform has efficiently extracted the spectra of the synthetic seismic signal as it smoothens the noise present in the data and upgrades the flag quality of the seismic data due to termers. Ormsby wavelet gives the most redefined spectrum of the input wave so it could be used for the analysis of the seismic reflections.

Abstract Background Psychological comorbidities are common among people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and are associated with worse disease outcomes. Evidence-based psychotherapy is an effective means to increase psychosocial support. This study aimed to identify the barriers to attending psychotherapy. Methods This electronic survey study included a demographic, quality of life, and barriers to psychotherapy questionnaire. Quality of life was assessed using the Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (SIBDQ). Barriers were assessed using the Perceived Barriers to Psychological Treatments scale (PBPT). Linear regression was used to identify participant characteristics associated with higher PBPT scores. Results One hundred eighty-seven participants completed the study. Fifty-eight percent of participants had ≥1 significant barrier. Time (28%), knowledge about the availability of services (25%), and cost (19%) were the most common barriers. Least common were stigma (14%), lack of motivation (12%), and emotional concerns (7%). Lower SIBDQ scores, being male, not being full-time employed, having Crohn disease, and being in disease remission were associated with higher PBPT scores. Conclusions Knowledge about the availability of services, time constraints, and cost are the leading barriers to psychotherapy among people with IBD. Care providers should develop a network of psychotherapists available to those with IBD. Being male and not being full-time employed may be risk factors for greater barriers. Further research is needed on barriers among groups underrepresented in this study and on novel psychotherapy solutions, like telehealth and low-cost options.

Diversity, density, efficiency, and effectiveness of pollinators of cicer milkvetch, Astragalus cicer L., grown at two locations in southern Alberta were studied from 1978 to 1983. Twenty-seven species of bees were identified as pollinators. At Lethbridge, honey bees (Apis mellifera) comprised 74% of the observations, bumble bees 16%, and leafcutter bees 10%, while at Spring Coulee, the proportions were honey bees 14%, bumble bees 69%, and leafcutter bees 17%. The rate of foraging by pollinator species from flower to flower varied; bumble bee species, especially Bombus nevadensis Cress., foraged consistently more efficiently than honey bees or alfalfa leafcutter bees, Megachile rotundata (F.). A theoretical approach used to predict the bee populations required to pollinate varying flower densities shows that the population of B. nevadensis required is about half those of Bombus huntii Greene and M. rotundata and less than one-quarter that of the honey bee. Pollination by B. nevadensis consistently resulted in more seeds per pod than with any other bumble bee species, the honey bee, or M. rotundata. Of the nine species of bumble bee that established colonies in artificial domiciles near the field, B. nevadensis established the most colonies each year. The number of workers and sexuals produced per colony varied considerably among bumble bee species with only 55% of the colony establishments producing workers and 31% producing sexuals. The propagation rate and quality of alfalfa leafcutter bees produced on cicer milkvetch was excellent.
