A direct action shunt selector has been designed that pre-selects the appropriate shunt so that widely different mass spectrometer ion currents can be recorded linearly on a standard chart. In conjunction with a linear direct current amplifier and a Leeds and Northrup Speedomax pen recorder, this unit allows rapid and accurate recording of a given mass spectrum, which can be scanned by varying either the magnetic field or the ion accelerating potential of the mass spectrometer. When used with a 180° Nier type mass spectrometer with well stabilized circuits, a precision of ± 0.2% in measuring the ratio of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] was obtained. Also, samples of xenon were investigated and the abundances of the isotopes determined.

An investigation of the mass spectrum of titanium tetrachloride prepared from both commercial titanium dioxide and titanium minerals has been carried out, using a 180° Nier-type mass spectrometer. Values for the relative abundances of the titanium and chlorine isotopes have been found. Measurements of the singly ionized trichloride group show that any variation in the relative abundances of the isotopes of titanium contained in these samples must be less than one per cent.

In some cases, magnetic blow does not allow using direct current for shielded metal arc welding. This is especially true for repair work on pipelines after magnetic flaw detection. Alternating current is useful to control magnetic arc blow during welding. The most promising results give technologies using alternating current with a rectangular waveform. However, the advantages of this method have not been used until now. The main goal of this study is to determine the influence of the parameters of the arc on its stability and the metal transfer mode during shielded metal arc welding under perturbing action of the magnetic field. The proposed methodology of experimental research allowed identifying the cause of arc extinction using direct current electrode positive. This is due to displacement of molten droplets of metal by the magnetic field from of the uneven melted electrode coating and its subsequent separation. This problem was solved using alternating current with the square waveform pulse mode at a frequency of 500 Hz. The amplitude-time parameters of the current pulses provide stabilization of the arc and volume of the molten electrode metal.

In this paper, the effects of constant uniform magnetic fields on a miniature linear ion trap mass spectrometer with hyperbolic electrodes are simulated using SIMION 8.0 3D software. Magnetic fields in different directions have different effects on the trajectories of the trapped ions and the shape of the ion cloud. When the magnetic field is applied in the z-direction, namely the ion injection direction, the magnetic field will cause the ions focusing to the z-axis, and exert a compression effect on the ion cloud. When the magnetic field is applied in the x-y plane, the original ion cloud will be expanded due to the action of the applied magnetic field, and the ion cloud plane after expansion is always perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field. The discovery of influence field of magnetic will bring some useful inspiration for the improvement of ion trapping efficiency, mass resolution, sensitivity and trapping capacity, which is conductive to the performance enhancement utilization of magnetic field, even in the industrial application development and other aspects.

The interaction between the magnetic field of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine and ion currents within the inner-ear endolymph results in a Lorentz force. This force produces a pressure that pushes on the cupula within the semicircular canals causing nystagmus and vertigo. Here I discuss several implications of this unique and noninvasive way to stimulate the vestibular system in experimental neurophysiology and clinical neurology.

It is a high expense that the experiment of the testing vehicle based on magnetic markers carrying on outdoors. The distribution and movement of magnetic markers were simulated by direct-current electromagnet, using single chip microcomputer and power amplifier to control direct-current electromagnet. It cuts down the expense of experiment. This dissertation is focus on mainly the design of lane simulator. In the lane simulator, every 0.5m arranged a direct-current electromagnet. When the speed is 80km/h,the electrifying time of the direct-current electromagnet is 0.025s. And the electric voltage of the direct-current electromagnet is 24v, and the magnetic field intensity of the direct-current electromagnet is 12000Gs.

On the basis of presenting the piping and seepage detection by magnetic-electric prospecting method, the authors analyzed and testified validity of the method. According to calculated results, the magnitude of magnetic field of artificial current was smaller on section if electrodes and cables were set rationally. Usually, the magnetic field magnitude of piping had several times to more than decuple comparing with magnetic field of artificial current. So, the magnetic abnormity could be detected easily by high-precision magnetometers. At the same time, their curves’ characteristics were different evidently. The analysis result shows that the piping and seepage of dyke can be detected by combining method of direct current supplying and high-precision magnetic survey.

This paper presents the design of actuator using magnetostrictive material under zero pre-stress conditions for direct current input, which is being developed to move friction pads of a disc brake for braking action. Comparison of analytical, experiment and Maxwell simulation of coils in free air is being carried out to predict the magnetic field generated by them and magneto motive force reaching the measuring end of magnetostrictive material. Experiments are being conducted to verify the performance of magnetostrictive actuator for dc input under zero-preload conditions. A set of magnetization curves are being predicted using Jiles-Atherton model in the context of control applications that require an accurate characterization of the relation between input applied magnetic field and strain output by the actuator. Further the validation of Jiles-Atherton model results is being done with the results obtained from experiments.

Calculation is made of the shape of the magnetic field between conical pole faces, which may be used as an inhomogeneous deflecting field for a mass spectrometer. The results are expressed as a series expansion in the coordinates around the main path, and in the gap width at the radius of the main path.
