The operation of comparing an end standard of length with a reference line standard is carried out by a method which is simple in principle, but which demands careful experimental technique. Textbooks give little beyond an outline of the principle, and in view of the importance of end gauges in industry, it has been considered worth while to record a description of an actual comparison. In the operation described two Johannson-type gauges, of 20 in. and 10 in. length, were compared with line standards which themselves had been compared directly with the legal Canadian standard metre.

An experimental technique for performing electron holography using a non-FEG, non-biprism transmission electron microscope (TEM) has been introduced by Ru et al. A double stacked specimens, one being a single crystal foil and the other the specimen, are loaded in the normal specimen position in TEM. The single crystal, which is placed onto the specimen, is responsible to produce two beams that are equivalent to two virtual coherent sources illuminating the specimen beneath, thus, permitting electron holography of the specimen. In this paper, the imaging theory of this technique is described. Procedures are introduced for digitally reconstructing the holograms.

Several trials have tried for decades to improve the outcome of extensive disease small cell lung cancer (ED-SCLC) through attempts to modify the standard treatments. Nevertheless, platinum/etoposide combination and topotecan have remained respectively the first and the second line standard treatments for the last 40 years. With the advent of immunotherapy, this scenario has finally changed. Our review aims to provide an overview of the primary studies on the actual therapeutic strategies available for ED-SCLC patients, and to highlight emerging evidence supporting the use of immunotherapy in SCLC patients.

In this study, an automatic pennation angle measuring approach based on deep learning is proposed. Firstly, the Local Radon Transform (LRT) is used to detect the superficial and deep aponeuroses on the ultrasound image. Secondly, a reference line are introduced between the deep and superficial aponeuroses to assist the detection of the orientation of muscle fibers. The Deep Residual Networks (Resnets) are used to judge the relative orientation of the reference line and muscle fibers. Then, reference line is revised until the line is parallel to the orientation of the muscle fibers. Finally, the pennation angle is obtained according to the direction of the detected aponeuroses and the muscle fibers. The angle detected by our proposed method differs by about 1° from the angle manually labeled. With a CPU, the average inference time for a single image of the muscle fibers with the proposed method is around 1.6 s, compared to 0.47 s for one of the image of a sequential image sequence. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve accurate and robust measurements of pennation angle.

Lenvatinib is a first-line standard treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with better anti-tumor effects than sorafenib, as shown by greater inhibition of the kinases of fibroblast growth factor receptor and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor. This report describes a patient with advanced HCC who experienced perforation of the small intestine 1 month after starting the treatment with lenvatinib. This patient likely had partial necrosis of a metastasis to the small intestine before starting lenvatinib treatment, with subsequent ischemic changes leading to perforation of the small intestine. Although metastasis of HCC to the small intestine is rare, patients with these metastases should be regarded as being at risk for perforation during lenvatinib treatment.
