Seasonal occurrence of freshwater hyphomycetes on submerged fallen leaves in canal waters

A total of 40 species of hyphomycetes were observed on submerged leaves during 1 year in canal waters. The number of species increased with leaf fall. The maximum number of species was observed during winter when leaf fall is maximum and the temperature falls to a minimum. Dimorphospora foliicola, Flagellospora penicillioides, Lunulospora curvula, Margaritispora aquatica, Tetracladium marchalianum, and Triscelophorus monosporus sporulated on leaves throughout the year. Most of the other species could be designated as winter and autumn species, with a shorter period of occurrence. Key words: freshwater hyphomycetes, submerged leaves, canal waters.
