On Dicarpella, Sphaerognomonia, and Apiosporopsis
Apiosporopsis (Trav.) Mariani is proposed as the correct name for Sphaerognomonia Poteb. ex Höhn. (type species S. carpinea (Fr.) Poteb. ex Höhn.) and is considered to be a monotypic genus of uncertain affinities. It is demonstrated that Dicarpella H. Syd. & P. Syd. consists of only three species (D. bina, D. liquidambaris-styracifluae, and D. orientalis) whose affinities do not lie with the Diaporthaceae. A new genus, Wuestniopsis, is proposed to accommodate the two remaining species of Dicarpella, D. georgiana and D. quercifolia. Key words: Dicarpella, Sphaerognomonia, Apiosporopsis, taxonomy, nomenclature.
