On Dicarpella, Sphaerognomonia, and Apiosporopsis

Apiosporopsis (Trav.) Mariani is proposed as the correct name for Sphaerognomonia Poteb. ex Höhn. (type species S. carpinea (Fr.) Poteb. ex Höhn.) and is considered to be a monotypic genus of uncertain affinities. It is demonstrated that Dicarpella H. Syd. & P. Syd. consists of only three species (D. bina, D. liquidambaris-styracifluae, and D. orientalis) whose affinities do not lie with the Diaporthaceae. A new genus, Wuestniopsis, is proposed to accommodate the two remaining species of Dicarpella, D. georgiana and D. quercifolia. Based on the morphology of workers, gynes and males, we revise the taxonomy of nominal taxa traditionally included by authors in the fungus-growing ant genus Mycetophylax. Our results indicate that Mycetophylax Emery (Myrmicocrypta brittoni Wheeler, 1907, type species, by designation of Emery, 1913; junior synonym of Cyphomyrmex conformis Mayr, 1884 by Kempf, 1962) includes M. conformis, M. simplex (Emery, 1888), and M. morschi (Emery, 1888) new combination (formerly in Cyphomyrmex), with several synonymies. Mycetophylax bruchi (Santschi, 1916) does not belong to the same genus and is diagnosed, in addition to other characters, by a psammophore arising at the anterior margin of the clypeus. For this species we are resurrecting from synonymy Paramycetophylax Kusnezov, 1956 (Mycetophylax bruchi as type species, by original designation, with M. cristulatus as its new synonym). Myrmicocrypta emeryi Forel, 1907 is the only attine in which females lack the median clypeal seta and have the antennal insertion areas very much enlarged and anteriorly produced, with the psammophore setae arising from the middle of the clypeus and not at its anterior margin as in Paramycetophylax. Notwithstanding its inclusion in Mycetophylax by recent authors, it is here recognized as belonging to a hitherto undescribed, thus far monotypic genus, Kalathomyrmex new genus (Myrmicocrypta emeryi as its type species, here designated). In 1975 Lynch named a new species of frog based on two specimens from Puerto Eden, Wellington Island, southern Chile, tentatively allocated to the genus Telmatobius. Telmatobius grandisonae Lynch was later included by the same author in his genus Atelognathus. Based on a reappraisal of the type material and the description of the internal and external morphology, karyotype, tadpole morphology and molecular evidence from recently discovered specimens collected at Lago del Desierto, southern Argentina, we describe the monotypic genus Chaltenobatrachus, with Telmatobius grandisonae (Lynch) serving as the type species. Chaltenobatrachus differs from Atelognathus mainly in having a uniform bright green dorsal coloration, with brown to reddish warts; orange iris with gold spots; fingers with interdigital membrane; frontoparietals well developed; small nasals;well ossified sphenethmoid; anteriorly expanded homosternum; skin of tadpole transparent; oral disc with protruding anterior and lateral papillae; diploid number 2n = 32 chromosomes. The genetic distances between Chaltenobatrachus and Atelognathus meet or exceed most other intergeneric comparisons.

The monotypic genus Ceroderma Raffray and the type species C. asperata Raffray are redescribed and illustrated, based onexamination of the holotype and additional specimens collected near the type locality. An allied new genus and species, Cero-chusa cilioceps Yin & Nomura, gen. et sp. nov. is described from Hainan Island, South China, and distinguished from related batrisine genera.

Some of the taxonomic characters originally argued for the Cuban monotypic genus Cubacanthozomus Teruel, 2007, are unsubstantial. Others were misinterpretations of drawings given in the original description of Schizomus rowlandi Dumitresco, 1973, the only source of taxonomic information on which Teruel (2007) based the new genus. Recently a new collection of this species was made in a small cave about 350 m from one of the caves mentioned in the original description: Cueva de Majana, Baracoa municipality, Guantánamo province. On the basis of new morphological evidence found during examination of two females and a male, both the genus Cubacanthozomus and its type-species are herein redescribed. Cueva de Majana is recognized as the true type locality of C. rowlandi, which male holotype was erroneously listed as being collected in a cave from central Cuba, 600 km away. Additional data are provided on the morphology, natural history and conservation status of C. rowlandi, which is now being proposed as an endangered species.

Abstract A monotypic genus Proparadilepis Kornyushin et Greben, gen. n. (type species: Proparadilepis plegadissaakovae sp. n.) is erected. It is similar to the genera Paradilepis Hsu, 1935, Ascodilepis Guildal, 1960 and Dendrouterina Fuhrmann, 1912 and differs from them by the number and shape of rostellar hooks, armament of the cirrus and shape of gravid uterus. Its type species, P. plegadissaakovae sp. n. is described from Plegadis falcinellus L. It was found by Е. О. Saakova and assigned as Paradilepis plegadis nomen nudum because its description was not published according to the criteria of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The additions to the keys of gryporhynchid tapeworms (Bona, 1994) are proposed. The genus Dendrouterina is divided, according to the existing groups “herodiae” and “macrosphincter” distinguished by Bona (1975) into two valid genera, Dendrouterina and Mashonalepis Beverley-Burton, 1960.

The peculiar lebiine genus Disciferella gen. n. is described as a representative of the subtribe Dromiusina Bonelli, 1810. The genus is very distinct habitually and could be easily recognized among other lebiines already by its appearance. In combination of its distinctive features, it is most similar to the enigmatic monotypic genus Brachynopterus, but distinguished from it by several sufficient characters, including the shape of the gonocoxite which is very characteristic (elongate and slightly arcuate) in the latter genus and typical for Dromiusina (short and wide) in Disciferella gen. n. The new genus includes two newly described species: D. kabakovi sp. n. (type species) from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and D. psammophila sp. n. from south-eastern Iran. The very characteristic habitus of the two new species with their wide discoidal elytra is similar to that of some species of the genera Discoptera Semenov, 1889 and Graphipterus Latreille, 1802 living in sandy habitats. This resemblance suggests a similar specialized mode of life, most likely in sandy deserts and dunes. The systematic position of the new genus is discussed.

The article describes a new genus, Miacorella Penco, Yakovlev & Naydenov gen. n. (Lepidoptera, Cossidae, Chilecomadiinae) (type species, by monotypy – Miacora leucocraspedontis Zukowsky, 1954). The neotype M. leucocraspedontis is allocated, the new combination Miacorella leucocraspedontis (Zukowsky, 1954), comb. n., is established. The species is distributed in Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. The distributional map is given. The article has 16 illustrations.

The monotypic genus Diminutella gen. n. is proposed to include the type species, Diminutella cortina sp. n., described from San Diego de los Baños, based on male and female specimens. This species is amongst the smallest Sparianthinae known to date reaching only 4.4 mm body length. It can be distinguished from other Sparianthinae by the combination of eye arrangement, with anterior eye row recurved, posterior eye row straight, spination pattern of legs I–II, with three ventral pairs on tibiae and one on metatarsi, and by the peculiar genitalia, with male palps bearing a large, laminar, layered conductor that rests within a retrolateral depression in the cymbium, and a female vulva with long copulatory ducts coiled around the stalk of a globose blind ending appendage.

We review the endemic Australian bee fly genusEusurbusRoberts (Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae) and recognize two described species and three new species. The monotypic genusBromoglycisHull is identified as a new junior synonym ofEusurbus. Another species,E. nigracinctusRoberts, is designated as the type species of a new genusZentamyiagen. nov. This new genus is similar toEusurbusbased on several combined external characters including two-segmented palp, one-segmented flagellomere, open anal cell and cellr5, and the cellbrmuch longer than cellbm. However,Zentamyiagen. nov. has a more flattened scutum, and the apex of the flagellum is tapered. Moreover, the male genitalia are very different fromEusurbus, the male epandrium is narrow and long, and its posterolateral margin has a cluster of dense hairs; the female lacks a sand chamber, and the sperm pump is long and strong. A morphological phylogeny toEusurbusspecies is provided.
