Growth and differentiation in gametophytes of Pinus resinosa cultured in vitro
Young megagametophytes, microsporangiate strobili, microsporophylls, and pollen grains of Pinus resinosa Ait. were cultured on a variety of media. Megagametophytes from strobili collected between mid-July and mid-August showed various degrees of internal growth and differentiation or developed small calluses on White's medium with various supplements. Undifferentiated haploid callus developed from young microspores in cultures of microsporangiate strobili and microsporophylls on Brown and Lawrence's medium. Pollen grains germinated and branched on all media but failed to divide and form callus.
