High-rise buildings in the city center construction has been with diversify disposition. As there is high wind on top of high-rise buildings, wind turbines are often installs on top of high-rise buildings. However, we can expect efficient power generation only by installing when the turbine in the place of heavy wind. In this article, it tries to evaluate wind power generation by performing airflow analysis around the roof according to the disposition of high-rise buildings.

Medan Plaza that built in 1982 is one of the pioneers of high-rise malls and buildings that can be considered modern and became the pride of the city of Medan. Over time, more than twenty years later, more and more malls have sprung up in Medan and also building mall coupled with the hotel or apartment. The liability to build high-rise buildings is also the answer to the increasing lack of land in the city center. Besides that, high-rise buildings which interconnected with each other are answers to the needs of the times, that constitute an integrated unit of an organism, the city, which has various activities connected to each other in a system. Hotel and mall have a crucial role in meeting the needs of society. The existence of a single entity with the hotel mall gives ease in meeting the needs of shopping and sightseeing the hotel guests. Facilities at the hotel also required of the general public that with the restaurant, pool, ballroom, gym, etc. Hotel and the mall is a response to the needs of a complex society.

High rise buildings is the phenomenon of XXI century, the expression of city’s economic and political power. This is the reflection of contemporary, modern and attractive city. Very often high rise buildings, who are characterized by a unique morphology, the parameters of high, density and intensity, are built near the historic center areas and cause irreversible visual impact on the historic sites, fundamentally altering the silhouette of the city. As a result, new problems and challenges appear. In this article the evolution of high rise buildings according to London, Jerusalem, Ottawa, Vilnius cities examples is analysed, the latest methodological principles which are applicable to control the development of high-rise buildings in the central parts of the city, while providing preservation and representation of cultural heritage are discussed. The latest computer technologies which are applied in urban regulations are presented. In case of Lithuania, high-rise building spatial development, general, spatial planning documents, urban design concepts, and monitoring of virtual city panoramas are reviewed. Comparative analysis in order to find out the essential methodological differences between cities regulation systems is done. Aukštybiniai pastatai – XXI a. fenomenas, miestų ekonominės, politinės galios išraiška. Tai šiuolaikinio, modernaus ir patrauklaus miesto atspindys. Labai dažnai aukštybinis užstatymas, pasižymintis savita morfologija, aukščio ir tūrio parametrais, dideliu užstatymo tankiu ir intensyvumu, atsiranda istorinių centrų prieigose, sukeldamas negrįžtamą vizualinį poveikį istoriniam paveldui, iš esmės pakeisdamas miesto siluetą. Dėl to atsiranda naujų problemų ir uždavinių. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama aukštybinių pastatų reglamentavimo evoliucija pagal Londono, Jeruzalės, Otavos ir Vilniaus miestų pavyzdį. Norint suvaldyti aukštybinių pastatų plėtrą šių miestų centrinėse dalyse, taikomi naujausi metodologiniai principai, numatant išsaugoti ir reprezentuoti ir kultūros paveldo objektus. Aptariamos naujausių kompiuterinių technologijų taikymo galimybės reglamentuojant miestus. Lietuvos atveju apžvelgiama Vilniaus miesto aukštybinių pastatų statybos raida, bendrojo, specialiojo planavimo dokumentai, parengtos koncepcijos, virtualių miesto panoramų monitoringas. Atliekama lyginamoji analizė, norint išsiaiškinti esminius metodologijų ir reglamentavimo skirtumus miestuose.

This paper explores the various roots and characteristics of current high-rise clusters emerging in new city districts along the coast of Manama and the resulting challenges to urban planning. Like many other Gulf cities Bahrain's capital Manama has witnessed rapid urban growth since local real-estate markets were liberalized in 2003. The recent developments have particularly focused on newly reclaimed areas along the periphery of Manama's city center. These new districts are mainly occupied by residential and commercial high-rises, which have been transforming previous urban morphologies. Today, the public sector is witnessing a wide range of planning challenges to integrate urban consolidation processes and to prevent infrastructural collapse. This paper therefore examines the evolution of urban planning that has led to the construction of high-rise buildings. In addition, the paper is based on GIS calculations and field studies regarding the increase of built densities, particularly between 2003 and 2008, when most developments were launched. In this regard, two case studies, Juffair and Seef District, were selected due to their main roles in recent development tendencies.

Excessive vibrations seriously affected the comfort of residents living on the upper floors of a high-rise shear walled building in Beijing. The ambient vibration tests were conducted to measure the floor acceleration responses, which were found to contain almost periodic signals likely to be excited by vibration sources with frequency of about 1.5[Formula: see text]Hz. The transverse vibration levels of the building above the 8th floor are not acceptable as revealed by the one-third octave spectra and weighted acceleration levels according to the ‘Standard for Allowable Vibration of Building Engineering’ of China. The modal properties of the building are identified by a Bayesian FFT method, indicating that the resonance between the building and the vibration sources caused the excessive vibrations. For comparison, the vibration test of an adjacent building with the same structural design was also conducted, together with modal analysis by the finite element method. It is found that as the story level increases, different trends of amplification in floor root mean square (RMS) acceleration and mode shape component of the two buildings cause different vibration levels. After tests outside the residence community, the main vibration sources were identified to be the working machines in two stone processing factories a few hundred meters away from the building. The vibration tests with measurements in the building and near the vibration sources with different number of machines in the two factories were also conducted. The results show that the vibration levels of the building can be controlled below the acceptance value by reducing the number of machines.
