The attachment of long wavelength absorbing π-conjugated chromophores to poly(methyl-phenylsilylene) (PMPSi) via reactions of its formylated derivative is described. Some of the obtained polymers exhibit improved photostability in comparison with the parent polymer. Their spectral properties and photoconductivity are discussed. Ultrathin layers and multilayers were prepared from polar derivatives of PMPSi by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique and their photoconductive behaviour was studied.

AbstractLangmuir-Blodgett (LB) films formed of some fluorescent dyes, namely derivatives of 4-aminonaphthalimide, and their binary mixtures with the liquid crystal 4-heptyl-4′-cyanobiphenyl (7CB) have been studied. The electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra were recorded. On the basis of these spectra, the spectral properties of the dyes and the intermolecular interactions in ultrathin ordered films were determined. The conclusions about the tendency to the creation of aggregates by dye molecules in LB films have been drawn. The measurements of absorption by using linearly polarised light have allowed us to determine the arrangement of the dye and liquid crystal molecules on the air-solid substrate interface.

New organic glassy non symmetric styryl- derivatives of 2(2,6-substituted-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)-malononitrile, 2(2,6-substituted-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione and 2(2,6-substituted-4H-pyran-4-ylidene)-pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione were synthesized. They form thin solid amorphous films from volatile organic solvents (DCM and chloroform). Their spectral properties have been studied.

A new type of chromogenic substraces based on derivatives of phenoxazine is presented. Particularly interesting is the blue dye 7-amino-3-diethylamino-8-methylphenoxazine (ADMP) with a molar extinktion coefficient of about 80,000 at 624 nm. Peptides were linked to the aminogroup of the dye and red coloured substrates were obtained with a λmax value of about 540 nm. On account of the distinct difference of the λmax values and the negligable influence of the absorption peaks of the acylated and the free dye this chromophore is suitable for the synchesis of substrates. Besides the spectral properties of chese new chromogenic peptides we determined their characce-riscics using serine proteases involved in the process of coagu-lacion and fibrinolysis. In comparison co para-nitroaniline substrates the introduction of the relatively bulky ADMP into the peptide sequence led to products with superior properties in respect of sensitivity and specificity. It was found that the ADMP substrates are particularly favourable for the determination of thrombin, urokinase and activated protein C in the presence of other proteases.
