A spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of [(2-chlorophenyl)methylene]propane dinitrile (CS) stabilized by the diazonium salts Fast Red TR and Fast Blue B after extraction with chloroform. Mass spectrometry, 1H and 13C NMR and elemental analysis confirmed the presence of the hydrazoform of the azo dye formed by reaction with malononitrile, as a product of the alkaline hydrolysis of substance CS, and the diazonium salt Fast Red TR.

Abstract A sensitive and accurate method is described for the determination of N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (NAPA) and its metabolites in urine and serum. In strongly acidic medium, p-aminophenol (PAP) resulting from differential extraction and acid hydrolysis of total NAPA and unconjugated NAPA, is diazotized and the diazonium salt coupled with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine (NED) in the presence of ethanol. The blue azo dye formed is determined spectrophotometrically. Application to liver disease is briefly reported.

Abstract A method for measuring serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase activity is described, in which substrate concentrations are more nearly optimal than in previous colorimetric methods. By coupling the diazonium salt at a pH of 4.2, interference from α-oxoglutarate is negligible. Oxalacetate is produced at a linear rate to 180 I.U. Results correlate well with those obtained by a reference spectrophotometric method.

Simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method was proposed for the analysis of metoclopramide hydrochloride (MPH) in pure form as well as in pharmaceutical tablets. The method is based on the diazotization reaction of MPH with sodium nitrite in hydrochloric acid medium to form diazonium salt, which is coupled with 1-naphthol in sodium hydroxide medium to form azo dye, showing absorption maxima at 550 nm. Beer’s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.4 – 18 µg mL-1 of MPH with detection limit 0.5448 µg mL-1. The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity are 3.4969 × 104 L mol-1 cm-1 and 0.0101 µg cm-2, respectively. The method was successfully applied to the determination of MPH in pharmaceutical tablets without any interference from common excipients used as additives in tablets. The results agree favorably with the official British Pharmacopoeia method.

The reactions of a series of arene diazonium salts with 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (cyclam) afford the novel compounds, the 1,4,8,11-tetra[2-aryl-1-diazenyl]-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecanes (1a–1f), which are the first examples of tetrakistriazenes to be reported. The tetrakistriazenes were characterized by IR spectroscopy, proton and carbon NMR, elemental analysis, high resolution electrospray mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. The analogous reaction of a diazonium salt with 1,4,7-triazacyclononane or 1,5,9-triazacyclododecane yields the tristriazenes 2, 3a, and 3b. The structures of compounds 1c and 1e were solved by X-ray crystallography at low temperature (150 K). Both molecules display a conformation where the four phenyltriazenyl groups point alternately upwards and downwards with respect to the mean macrocyclic plane.Key words: triazene, tetrakistriazene, cyclam, tetraazacyclotetradecane, X-ray, NMR, cyclic polyamines.

A new simple and selective spectrophotometric method is developed for the determination of malathion by using Gention violet is described. The method was based on the alkaline hydrolysis of malathion in presence of sodium ethoxide to form sodium dimethyl dithiophosphate (Na-DMDTP). The Na-DMDTP was formed as an ion-pair complex with cationic dye, gention violet. The ion-pair complex was extracted into chloroform. The color of the organic layer was measured at 587 nm. The method was applied to the determination of malathion residues in water, grain and soil samples

Abstract A new UV spectrophotometric assay for determination of epicillin in capsules and plasma is reported. The method is based on the absorptivity of a degradation product obtained from the acidic hydrolysis of the antibiotic. The isolation, identification, individual capsule assays, composite assay, and recovery studies are described. Also, the proposed method is compared with a dc polarographic assay in plasma.
