Acid properties of the oxides Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, SnO2, Sb2O3, ZrO2 and ZrSiO4 were modified by the action of Lewis acids. The acids ( AlCl3, TiCl4, PCl5, SbF5 and P2O5) were deposited on the oxides by sublimation at 150, 250 and 350°C. The strength and number of acid centres of the prepared catalysts and their catalytic activity in hydrocarbon reactions were determined.

Properties of solid acid catalysts prepared by modification of oxides have been examined. The oxides Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, SnO2, Sb2O3, ZrO2 and ZrSiO4 were impregnated by aqueous solutions of H2SO4, H3PO4, NH4F and NH4Cl, respectively, and calcined at 500, 650 and 800°C. For the so prepared catalysts, the strength and number of their acid centres and their activity for hydrocarbon reactions were determined.

By orthogonal design method, Catalytic activity of /ZrO2 solid superacid is studied, and the influence of catalyst characteristic and structure by manufacturing equipment is issued. It is concluded that the best prepared conditions of the superacid catalyst /ZrO2 for the synthesis of Octyl-Polyglycoside are followed:(1) PH=9.5; (2) calcined temperature at 500; (3) M(H2SO4)=0.5mol/L. Using this kind of catalyst the conversion of glueoside may reach as high as 96% in the synthesis of OCtyl-Polyglycoside and the selectivity is very high for the synthesis of Octyl-Polyglycoside. By introducing other metal oxide, the catalytic activity of complex solid superacid is studied.

Palladium chloride anchored on polystyrene modified by 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline was prepared and used as an efficient recoverable catalyst for Suzuki cross-coupling reactions. The heterogeneous catalysts can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused for five cycles without significant Pd leaching and loss of catalytic activity. Rate enhancement in the Suzuki reaction by Lewis acids was also studied.

MIL-101(Fe) was explored for the first time for the catalytic conversion of glucose into lactic acid (LA). The as-synthesized MIL-101(Fe) was successfully characterized, and its higher specific surface area, porosity, and feasible acid properties were confirmed to determine the remarkable catalytic activity in glucose-to-LA conversion (up to 25.4% yield) compared with other catalysts like MIL-101(Cr, Al) and UiO-66(Zr). The reaction parameters including temperature, reaction time, and substrate species as well as catalyst reusability were discussed.
