Bromine oxidation of N-(3 or 4-substituted phenyl)-N'-3-phenylpropenoylthioureas in chloroform afforded either derivatives of benzylidenethiazoline or benzothiazole depending on the structure of the aniline residue. The structure of the title products was proved by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral data.

5-[(2-Methyl-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)methyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol or 5-[(2-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)methyl]-4-(4-methylphenyl)-1,2,4-triazol-3-thiol which were prepared starting from 2-methylbenzimidazole in the reaction with appropriateN-aryl-2-chloroacetamides afforded two series ofN-aryl-2-{5-[(2-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)methyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl}sulfanylacetamides andN-aryl-2-{5-[(2-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)methyl]-4-(4-methylphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-ylthio}acetamides, respectively. The structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of IR, MS,1H-NMR, and13C-NMR spectral data. The compounds containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole or 1,2,4-triazole heterocycle also were tested for their antimicrobial activity against bacteria, mold, and yeast.

Abstract N-alkyl substituted 2′,3″-thiazachalcones {3-[(1E)-3-(4-methylthiophene-2-yl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]-1-alkyl (C5–12,14) pyridinium bromides} were synthesized by a two-step reaction. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectral studies. The synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial activities and found to be more active against Gram-positive as compared to Gram-negative bacteria.

New metal-free 5 and metallophthalocyanines 6-11( M = Cu , Ni , Co , Pb , Zn ) fused in peripheral positions with four 24-membered tetraoxatetraaza macrocycles were prepared by cyclotetramerization of 24,25-dicyano-4,10,13,17-tetra(toluene-p-sulfonyl)-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22-didicontinehydrobenzo[y][3,9,12,18]tetraaza[1,7,16,22]tetraoxatetradicontine in the presence of the corresponding metal salt or a strong organic base. While the N-tosylated derivatives of the phthalocyanines are soluble in common organic solvents, the detosylated derivative of copper phthalocyaninate is soluble in water. The aggregation properties of the phthalocyanines were also investigated as a function of concentration, solvent and oxidative medium. The new compounds are characterized by a combination of elemental analysis and 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, IR, UV-vis and MS spectral data.

Present study describes the synthesis of a novel series of 3,5-diiodo-4-(5-nitro-1H-2-imidazolyl)benzoyl amino acids and di/tri/tetrapeptides using diisopropylcarbodiimide/dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DIPC/DCC) as coupling agents andN-methylmorpholine/triethylamine (NMM/TEA) as bases. Structure elucidation of all the newly synthesized compounds was done by elemental analysis and IR,1H NMR,13C NMR and mass spectral data. Synthesized imidazolopeptides were screened for their anthelmintic activity and found to possess moderate to good bioactivity against earthwormsMegascoplex konkanensis, Pontoscotex corethruses and Eudrilus eugenieawhen compared to reference drugs - albendazole and mebendazole at dose level of 2 mg mL−1.

In search for highly bioactive barbituric and thiobarbituric acid derivatives, some new barbituric and thiobarbituric acids bearing 1,2,4-triazine moiety and their related systems (5–13) have been obtained from the addition of isocyanate and isothiocyanate to 3-amino-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine (1) followed by ring closure reactions with diethyl malonate. Also, chemical reactivities of the related systems were obtained from the condensation of barbituric and thiobarbituric acid derivatives with aromatic aldehyde and/or fluoroacylation reactions. The structure of all the products was deduced from both elemental analysis and spectral data (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS). The herbicidal activity was also evaluated for the products.

AbstractNew 3-aryl-pyrido[2,1-b][1,3]benzothiazole derivatives 2a–e were synthesized in excellent yields via the reaction of benzothiazoleacetonitrile (1) with different aromatic aldehydes. The treatment of 2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-3-(pyridin-4-yl)acrylonitrile (6) with malononitrile afforded 1-amino-3-(pyridin-4-yl)-3H-pyrido[2,1-b][1,3]benzothiazole-2,4-dicarbonitrile (7), which was allowed to react with a variety of reagents to provide pyrimido[5′,4′:5,6]pyrido[2,1-b][1,3]benzothiazole 8, 9 and [1,3]benzothiazolo[3,2-a][1,8]naphthyridine 10, 15 derivatives. All synthesized products were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectral data.

New synthesis of pyrido[3,4-e]-1,3-thiazines consisting in reaction of 2,6-dimethyl-4-chloronicotinoyl isothiocyanate with primary or secondary amines, or with benzaldehyde phenylhydrazone, is described. High reactivity of the chlorine atom does not allow isolation of the corresponding thioureas, arising as intermediates, except in the case of the benzylamino derivative. Structure of the products was unequivocally confirmed by their spectral data (IR, UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectra). The synthesized derivatives do not undergo the Dimroth rearrangement.

Reaction of 3β-acetoxy-21,22-dioxo-18α,19βH-ursan-28,20β-olide (IIIa) and 20β,28-epoxy-21,22-dioxo-19α,19βH-ursan-3β-yl acetate (IIIb) with diazomethane afforded derivatives XII-XIV with spiroepoxide group in position 21 or 22, which were further converted into hydroxy derivatives XV and XVII. Ethylene ketals VIII-X were also prepared. In connection with the determination of position and configuration of the functional groups at C(21) and C(22), the 1H and 13C NMR spectral data of the prepared compounds are discussed. Complete analysis of two four-spin systems in the 1H NMR spectrum of bisethylenedioxy derivative Xb led to the proton-proton coupling constants from which the structure with two 1,4-dioxane rings condensed with ring E, and their conformation, was derived.

A new triterpene saponin, named as 23-hydroxy-3α-[O-α-L-1C4-rhamnopyranosyl-(1´´4´)- O-α-L-4C1-arabinopyranosyl-oxy]olean-12-en-28-oic acid O-α-L-1C4-rhamnopyranosyl- (1´´´´´→4´´´´)-O-β-D-4C1-glucopyranosyl-(1´´´´→6´´´)-O-β-D-4C1-glucopyranosyl ester (9), was isolated from the leaves of Bauhinia variegata Linn. In addition, six flavonoid compounds along with two cinnamic acid derivatives were isolated and identified based on their chromatographic properties, and chemical and spectral data (ESI-high resolution-MSn, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, and HMBC). Compound 9 was found to be nontoxic (LD50) and to have significant anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities. It also showed a slight antischistosomal activity.

<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To design and synthesize amino acetylenic and thiocarbonate of 2-mercapto-1,3-benthiazoles as potential antimicrobial agents.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A new series of 2-{[4-(t-amino-1-yl) but-2-yn-1-yl] sulfanyl}-1,3-benzothiazole derivatives (AZ1-AZ6), and S-1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl-O-alkyl carbonothioate derivatives were synthesised, with the aim that the target compounds show new and potential antimicrobial activity. The elemental analysis was indicated by the EuroEA elemental analyzer, and biological characterization was via IR, <sup>1</sup>H-NMR, [13]C-NMR, DSC were determined with the aid of Bruker FT-IR and Varian 300 MHz spectrometer using DMSO-d<sub>6</sub> as a solvent.<em> </em><em>In vitro </em>antimicrobial activity, evaluation was done for the synthesised compounds, by agar diffusion method and broth dilution test. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were determined. <em></em></p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The IR, <sup>1</sup>H-NMR, <sup>13</sup>C-NMR, DSC and elemental analysis were consistent with the assigned structures. Compound of 2-{[4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)but-2-yn-1-yl] sulfanyl}-1,3-benzothiazole (AZ1), 2-{[4-(2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)but-2-yn-1-yl]sulfanyl}-1,3-benzothiazole (AZ2), 2-{[4-(piperidin-1-yl) but-2-yn-1-yl]sulfanyl}-1, 3-benzothiazole (AZ6), S-1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl-O-ethyl carbonothioate (AZ7), and S-1,3-benzothiazol-2-yl-O-(2-methylpropyl) carbonothioate (AZ9) showed the highest antimicrobial activity against <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa </em>(<em>P. aeruginosa</em>), AZ-9 demonstrated the highest antifungal activity against <em>Candida albicans </em>(<em>C. albicans</em>), with MIC of 31.25 µg/ml.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>These promising results promoted our interest to investigate other structural analogues for their antimicrobial activity further.</p>
