The oxidation of carbon monoxide by oxygen using two catalysts prepared by two different methods has been investigated. In the first method, catalyst prepared by immersing γ-Al2O3 into the hexa-chloroplatinic acid solution at 80oC for 4 h, resulted Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalyst having platinum highly dispersed on the support. While that of immersing γ-Al2O3 in the hexa-chloroplatinic acid solution at room temperature for 12 h, produced Pt/ γ-Al2O3 catalyst where platinum dispersion was much lower. Catalytic activity test showed that platinum well dispersed on the support enhanced the activity for oxidation of carbon monoxide. The platinum impregnated at room temperature resulted in the poor activity.   Keywords: platinum catalyst, alumina, supported material, oxidation

For fuel cells, to produce high-quality and low-platinum catalyst is a pressing technical problem. In this study, graphene cathode catalysts with controllable platinum content were decorated by pyrolyzing chloroplatinic acid under various process parameters to obtain a high catalytic activity and durability. The results show that platinum particles generated by pyrolyzing chloroplatinic acid are uniformly loaded on graphene without agglomeration. The average particle size of platinum particles is about 2.12 nm. The oxygen reduction reaction catalytic activity of catalyst samples first increases, then decreases with increasing platinum loading in cyclic voltammetry and LSV. Compared with the commercial Pt/C (20 wt% Pt) catalyst, the initial potential and the current density retention rate of the catalyst decorated with 8% platinum are 55 mV and 23.7% higher, respectively. From i-t curves, it was found that the stability of the catalyst prepared in this paper was improved compared with the commercial Pt/C catalyst. The catalysts prepared in the present research exhibits superior catalytic activity and stability.

A hydrophobic porous hydrogen anode was prepared whose electrochemical parameters are comparable with anodes containing a platinum catalyst. For its successful preparation, oxidation of the Raney nickel catalyst with air oxygen or with fluorine from Teflon must be prevented. The electrodes of a geometric surface area up to 450 cm2 were tested in cells and modules filled with 7M-KOH.

The role of geometric factor in the course of skeletal reactions (isomerization, hydrogenolysis) of 2-methylpentane on stepped (119), (557) and reconstructed R(557) surfaces of single crystals of platinum was evaluated with computer designed models. These calculations were compared with reported experimental data. It was found by analysis of geometric conditions that there are accessible active ensembles on double step of the reconstructed R(557) surface. In addition, these active sites are unsaturated in their coordination sphere and thus catalytically effective. This finding is consistent with published data, confirming higher catalytic activity of this surface. The various pathways of Bond Shift isomerization mechanism of 2-methylpentane from the point of view of steric demands of surface intermediates on differently located ensembles are discussed, too.
