ABSTRACT Volatiles of Stenotrophomonas, Serratia, and Bacillus species inhibited mycelial growth of many fungi and Arabidopsis thaliana (40 to 98%), and volatiles of Pseudomonas species and Burkholderia cepacia retarded the growth to lesser extents. Aspergillus niger and Fusarium species were resistant, and B. cepacia and Staphylococcus epidermidis promoted the growth of Rhizoctonia solani and A. thaliana. Bacterial volatiles provide a new source of compounds with antibiotic and growth-promoting features.

A preliminary study on antifungal effect of TiO2-based paints in natural indoor light The antifungal activity of four commercial photocatalytic paints (KEIM Ecosil ME, Titanium FA, Photo Silicate and Silicate D) in natural indoor light was investigated. The paints contained TiO2 in rutile and anatase crystalline forms as evidenced by means of the X-ray diffraction analysis. In most cases the paints inhibited growth of fungi viz. Trichoderma viride, Aspergillus niger, Coonemeria crustacea, Eurotium herbariorum, and Dactylomyces sp. The KEIM Ecosil ME paint displayed the highest antifungal effect in the light, which could be explained with the highest anatase content. The paint antifungal activity and the fungal sensitivity to the TiO2-mediated photocatalytic reaction both decreased in the following orders: KEIM Ecosil ME > Titanium FA > Photo Silicate > Silicate D and T. viride > Dactylomyces sp. > A. niger > E. herbariorum.

Suppressive effects of soil amendment with residues of 12 cultivars of Brassica rapa on damping-off of sugar beet were evaluated in soils infested with Rhizoctonia solani. Residues of clover and peanut were tested as noncruciferous controls. The incidence of damping-off was significantly and consistently suppressed in the soils amended with residues of clover, peanut, and B. rapa subsp. rapifera ‘Saori’, but only the volatile substance produced from water-imbibed residue of cv. Saori exhibited a distinct inhibitory effect on mycelial growth of R. solani. Nonetheless, disease suppression in such residue-amended soils was diminished or nullified when antibacterial antibiotics were applied to the soils, suggesting that proliferation of antagonistic bacteria resident to the soils were responsible for disease suppression. When the seed (pericarps) colonized by R. solani in the infested soil without residues were replanted into the soils amended with such residues, damping-off was suppressed in all cases. In contrast, when seed that had been colonized by microorganisms in the soils containing the residues were replanted into the infested soil, damping-off was not suppressed. The evidence indicates that the laimosphere, but not the spermosphere, is the site for the antagonistic microbial interaction, which is the chief principle of soil suppressiveness against Rhizoctonia damping-off.

Salah satu upaya penanganan penyakit moler bawang merah dilakukan melalui aplikasi Trichoderma. Aplikasi Trichoderma pada bawang merah memiliki beberapa keunggulan, yaitu mampu mensintesis hormon pertumbuhan tanaman. Terdapat jenis mikroba lain yang juga mampu meningkatkan fitohormon pada tanaman, yaitu Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menentukan isolat PGPR yang memiliki pengaruh paling baik terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil bawang merah varietas Crok Kuning di lahan sawah. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Lengkap (RAKL) faktor tunggal dengan tiga blok sebagai ulangan. Faktor perlakuan yang digunakan adalah lima isolat PGPR, yaitu: Bp.25.7 Bacillus subtilis, BrSG.5 Bacillus amyloliquofaciens, Bp.25.2 Bacillus methylotrophicus, BrsM.4 Burkholderia cepacia, danBp.25.6 Bacillus amyloliquofaciens dengan dua kontrol, yaitu kontrol positif berupa Trichoderma dan kontrol negatif tanpa aplikasi perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian perlakuan isolat Bp.25.2 Bacillus methylotrophicus pada bawang merah menyebabkan Laju Asimilasi Bersih (LAB) bawang merah lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan pemberian perlakuan empat isolat PGPR lainnya maupun kontrol, tetapi sama baiknya dengan pemberian perlakuan Trichoderma. LAB yang tinggi menyebabkan Laju Pertumbuhan Tanaman (LPT) bawang merah dengan pemberian perlakuan Bp.25.2 Bacillus methylotrophicus yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan BrSG.5 Bacillus amyloliquofaciens dan Bp.25.6 Bacillus amyloliquofaciens, tetapi sama baiknya dengan pemberian perlakuan dua isolat PGPR lainnya, kontrol, maupun Trichoderma. Pemberian aplikasi lima isolat PGPR sama baiknya dengan aplikasi Trichoderma dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman bawang merah pada variabel luas permukaan daun dan bobot kering total dibandingkan kontrol. Peningkatan variabel pertumbuhan ini tidak diikuti oleh peningkatan variabel hasil dan produktivitas bawang merah tidak berbeda nyata antar perlakuan.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) beragam spesies jamur patogen tular-benih pada lima varietas padi, dan (2) persentase daya kecambah lima varietas padi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Karantina Pertanian Kelas I Semarang, dari bulan Maret sampai dengan Mei 2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 5 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, perlakuan terdiri atas Varietas Inpago Unsoed 1, Inpago Unsoed Parimas, IR64, Ciherang, dan Situ Bagendit. Isolasi dan identifikasi jamur patogen tular-benih dilakukan pada blotter test dan medium PDA, dengan pengamatan di bawah mikroskop stereo dan kompon, kemudian dibandingkan dengan pustaka. Variabel yang diamati yaitu morfologi koloni patogen, morfologi patogen, dan daya kecambah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) pada semua varietas benih padi terdapat jamur patogen tular-benih, tetapi tidak semua jamur tersebut dijumpai pada setiap varietas. Jenis jamur patogen tular-benih yang dijumpai, yaitu Alternaria padwickii Ganguly, Aspergillus flavus Link, Aspergillus niger van Tieghem, Curvularia lunata (Wakker) Boedjin, Curvularia pallescens Boedjin, Drechslera oryzae Breda de Haan, Fusarium semitectum Berk. & Rav. [W&R, G,B,J], Rhizoctonia solani J. G. Kuhn, Rhizopus oryzae Went & Prins. Geerl., dan Tilletia barclayana Bref., dan (2) uji daya kecambah menunjukkan bahwa masing-masing varietas benih padi memilki persentase daya kecambah benih yang berbeda. Daya kecambah benih berturut-turut pada varietas IR64, Ciherang, Inpago Unsoed 1, Inpago Unsoed Parimas, dan Situ Bagendit sebesar 85,75, 81,75, 80,25, 76,5, dan 70%.

The influence of metabolites of most ubiquitousAspergillusspp., organic amendment extracts and their combined effect withTrichoderma virenswere evaluatedin vitroagainstRhizoctonia solani.The minimum (36.1 mm) growth was attained byR. solaniin co-culture withA. niger.The maximum (42.3 mm) inhibition of mycelial growth of the test organism was observed with culture filtrate ofA. ochraceousfollowed byA. niger, A. fumigatus, A. flavusandA. terreus.Among organic amendment extractants, castor cake exhibited an additive effect on the growth ofT. virens, however, the maximum (41.8 mm) suppressive effect onR. solaniwas observed with vermicompost. With the advance in time, the effect of organic amendment extracts increased markedly. Inhibition potential of culture filtrate mixturte ofA. niger+T. virensandA. ochraceous+T. virensagainstR. solaniwas significantly higher in comparison to the other combinations.

The antifungal activity of aqueous extracts of nine plants viz, Azadirachta indica, Parthenium hysterophorus, Momordica charantia, Allium sativum, Eucalyptus globules, Calotropis procera, Aloe vera, Beta vulgaris and Datura stramonium were assessed in vitro against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melongenae, Rhizoctonia solani and Macrophomina phaseolina, the soil borne phytopathogens. The assessment of fungitoxic effect was carried out by using three different concentrations i.e., 5, 10 and 20% against the test fungi, in terms of percentage of mycelial growth inhibition. The extract of A. sativum completely inhibited the mycelial growth of M. phaseolina at all the concentrations. The extracts of D. stramonium and E. globulus inhibited the mycelial growth of R. solani of 72%, and 70.7% respectively at 20% concentration, that of A. sativum, E. globulus and D. stramonium exhibited inhibition percentage of 63.3%, 61.8% and 61.1% respectively at 20% concentration on Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melongenae. The application of plant extracts for disease management could be less expensive, easily available, non-polluting and eco-friendly.

Abstract A green efficient and facile synthesis of pyrazoles is reported via condensation reaction between substituted aldehydes (1a-1i), malononitrile (2) and 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine (3) in presence of acylated Guar-gum as biocatalyst under solvent-free conditions. The progress of reaction was checked by thin layer chromatography and melting points reported are uncorrected. All synthesized compounds (4a-4i) were characterized by using 1HNMR and FTIR spectral techniques and evaluated for in vitro herbicidal activity against Raphanus sativus L. (Radish seeds). All compounds (4a-4i) were also evaluated for their antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani and Aspergillus niger by poisoned food techniques method. Antioxidant activity of synthesized compound was also determined. From activity results, it was found that compound 4f was most active against both Raphanus sativus L. (root) and Raphanus sativus L. (shoot) respectively. Compounds 4e and 4h were found most active against Rhizoctonia solani and Aspergillus niger fungus respectively at highest concentration. Compound 4e has shown maximum percentage DPPH free radical scavenging activity 1.e. 61.47% at 100 µg/mL concentration. Less reaction time, excellent yield of products, mild reaction conditions and simple work-up are some merits of present methodology.

 The purpose of this study was to know the effectiveness of Gracilaria sp. ethanol extract to inhibit the growth of Aspergillus niger. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Gracilaria sp. was not effective to inhibit the growth of A. niger. The minimum inhibitory concentration test (MIC) was carried out using extracts with 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5%, 0.6%, 0.7 %, 0.8 %, 0.9%, 1%, 2% and 0% percentage. The MIC results showed that the minimum extract inhibiting A. niger was 0.8%. The results of the antifungal activity test showed that the ethanol extract of Gracilaria sp. was fungistatic against A. niger. On the third day incubation, the 4% extract inhibited the growth of fungi with an average diameter of 5 mm. The fungal colony test was carried out using extract with 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 4% and 0% concentration, and the results showed that extract with 4% concentration can inhibit fungi colony growth by 69%. Phytochemical analysis was conducted using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, and the results showed that the ethanol extract of Gracilaria sp. contained 366.33 mg/100g/GAE phenol, 2041.47 mg/100g flavonoids, and 3041.60 mg/100g/TAE tannins. Tannins are suspected to be the most dominant fungistatic compound with the largest amount.
