New role of the European regions within the processes of cooperation and competition highlighted their need for unique, highly profiled and strategically managed regional identity. Regional identity is one of the most important assets of any region and might serve as invaluable competitive advantage. Regional identity, its sources, background and consequences for regional development are the main focus of this contribution. Need for unique, original and plausible profile of each region, aspiring to be successful in the process of regional competition has been confirmed to be utterly urgent. Struggling for competitive advantage of the particular region is based on the strategic managerial approach toward city/regional identity. The article refers to the survey of regional identity in the river basins of the Morava river in both the Slovak and the Czech parts of the river basins covering the results of perception of various elements of regional identity: perception of landscape and river, relations to living spaces, values and image, river identity and identification with territory, recent societal development and future perspectives.

The article acquaints and explains the consideration of Margaret Atwood’s novels: ‘Surfacing’ (1972), ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ (1985), and ‘The Robber Bride’ (1993), which presents the role of patriarchal myths in the era of post-modern. She tried to represent the situation of women in contemporary society, where society demands mute acceptance from a woman considered as “weaker sex” or “inferior sex”. Feminism both as a concept and a movement has emerged as a reaction against the atrocities of patriarchy. By myth-making, Margaret is testing her identity, perception, recording the world, and value systems projected is the past.

Recognition of others’ identity through facial features is essential in human life. Here, we examined how person knowledge may bias the perception of others’ facial identity. In five studies, using correlational (Studies 1–4) and experimental approaches (Study 5), we examine the representational structure of facial identities across conceptual, perceptual, and visual levels. When a participant believed any two individuals were more similar in terms of their personality, their faces were perceived to be correspondingly more similar (assessed via computer mouse-tracking; Studies 1–2), even when controlling for faces’ intrinsic physical similarity. Further, participants’ visual representations of faces belonging to individuals believed to have a more similar personality were found to have a greater physical resemblance (assessed via reverse-correlation tasks; Studies 3–4). Finally, the effect persisted when participants learned about novel faces randomly linked with different personality traits (e.g., trustworthiness), implicating a causal role of person knowledge (Study 5). Together, the findings suggest that the perception of facial identity is driven not only by facial features but also the person knowledge we have learned about others.

Although many studies have shown that entrepreneurial intention can be explained according to a theory of planned behavior, some scholars have provided interesting insights into the role of job self-identity perception—in particularly the ones related to entrepreneurship—as significant precursor of entrepreneurial intention. A questionnaire has been administered to graduates and students of an Italian university (N = 153). A hierarchical regression analysis controlling for demographic variables has been performed in order to test the research hypotheses. The findings of this study have been discussed, with particular attention paid to the unexpected, weak, or non-significant effects of perceived behavioral control and social norms on entrepreneurial intention.

AbstractWhitehouse adapts insights from evolutionary anthropology to interpret extreme self-sacrifice through the concept of identity fusion. The model neglects the role of normative systems in shaping behaviors, especially in relation to violent extremism. In peaceful groups, increasing fusion will actually decrease extremism. Groups collectively appraise threats and opportunities, actively debate action options, and rarely choose violence toward self or others.

Abstract Tomasello offers a compelling account of the emergence of humans’ sense of obligation. We suggest that more needs to be said about the role of affect in the creation of obligations. We also argue that positive emotions such as gratitude evolved to encourage individuals to fulfill cooperative obligations without the negative quality that Tomasello proposes is inherent in obligations.

Abstract The authors do the field of cultural evolution a service by exploring the role of non-social cognition in human cumulative technological culture, truly neglected in comparison with socio-cognitive abilities frequently assumed to be the primary drivers. Some specifics of their delineation of the critical factors are problematic, however. I highlight recent chimpanzee–human comparative findings that should help refine such analyses.
