A review of recent achievements in the investigation of mechanisms of aerodynamic sound generation by turbulent vortices is presented. The results obtained, and their agreement, permit understanding of the mechanism of sound generation by a 3D vortex, as well as the formulation of a new concept of sound radiation by vortex structures. It appears that the noise of even one vortex, which seems at first to be a rather simple oscillating system, is in fact a highly complex random process, with quite definite peculiarities that can be recorded experimentally and predicted theoretically.
