When developing a high-speed contact suspension for railways electrified with alternating current, it is important to ensure that the electric rolling stock passes the neutral insert without turning off the current and without reducing the speed of movement. The article provides an analysis of previously developed devices in the field of power supply of electrified railways of single-phase alternating current, in which an attempt was made to pass an electric rolling stock of a neutral insert without disconnecting the load. The device of isolating coupling of a catenary and a neutral insert for high-speed railway lines electrified on alternating current is described. In this case, the passage of the neutral insert is carried out under current and braking of the electric rolling stock will not occur. Among other things, to improve the efficiency of high-speed contact suspension for railways electrified with alternating current, it is proposed to use new materials and new technologies that can be used in the device of insulating coupling of the catenary

Abstract Experimental investigation of a heat sink for electronics cooling is performed. The objective is to keep the operating temperature at a relatively low level of about 323–333K, while reducing the undesired temperature variation in both the streamwise and transverse directions. The experimental study is based on systematic temperature, flow and pressure measurements, infrared radiometry and high-speed digital video imaging. The heat sink has parallel triangular microchannels with a base of 250μm. According to the objectives of the present study, Vertrel XF is chosen as the working fluid. Experiments on flow boiling of Vertrel XF in the microchannel heat sink are performed to study the effect of mass velocity and vapor quality on the heat transfer, as well as to compare the two-phase results to a single-phase water flow.

Due to the working condition of low-voltage cabling from the mining flameproof movable substation to the loads of the mining face being poor, it is easy to cause various external mechanical damages to the cable sheaths. Furthermore, a single-phase earth leakage fault or short-circuit fault can occur when the low-voltage cable sheaths are damaged, and electric sparks caused by these faults can lead to a gas explosion. As the gas detonation time caused by the above faults is usually more than 5 ms, the high-speed interruption solid-state switch which controls the cables must cut off the current within 3 ms. This requires the action time of the solid-state switch to be less than 1 ms, and at the same time, the sampling and calculation time of the relay protection must be less than 2 ms. Based on these problems, this paper proposes the use of a high-speed solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) topology at the neutral point of transformer, and analyzes the conduction mechanism and shut-off mechanism of the current of the SSCB. It presents an ultra-high-speed algorithm based on pattern recognition of single-phase earth leakage fault protection, and an ultra-high-speed algorithm of short-circuit fault which is based on the rate-of-change of the current. Finally, through computer simulation experiments and semi-physical simulation experiments, the feasibility of the above three technologies is verified to ensure that when a single-phase earth leakage fault or short-circuit fault occurs in the low-voltage cable, the solid-state switch which is installed in the mining flameproof movable substation will cut off the current within 3 ms.

A test rig was constructed to investigate flow boiling in an electrically heated horizontal mini-channel array. The test section is made of copper and consists of twelve parallel mini-channels. The channels are 1 mm deep, 1 mm wide and 250 mm long. The test section is heated from underneath with six cartridge heaters. The channels are covered with a glass plate to allow visual observations of the flow patterns using a high-speed video-camera. The wall temperatures are measured at five positions along the channel axis with two resistance thermometers in a specified distance in heat flow direction. Local heat transfer coefficients are obtained by calculating the local heat flux. The working fluids are deionised water and ethanol. The experiments were performed under near atmospheric pressure (0.94 bar to 1.2 bar absolute). The inlet temperature was kept constant at 20°C. The measurements were taken for three mass fluxes (120; 150; 185 kg/m2s) at heat fluxes from 7 to 375 kW/m2. Heat transfer coefficients are presented for single phase forced convection, subcooled and saturated flow boiling conditions. The heat transfer coefficient increases slightly with rising heat flux for single phase flow. A strong increase is observed in subcooled flow boiling. At high heat flux the heat transfer coefficient decreases slightly with increasing heat flux. The application of ethanol instead of water leads to an increase of the surface temperature. At the same low heat flux flow boiling heat transfer occurs with ethanol, but in the experiments with water single phase heat transfer is still dominant. It is because of the lower specific heat capacity of ethanol compared to water. There is a slight influence of the mass flux in the investigated parameter range. The pictures of a high-speed video-camera are analysed for the two-phase flow-pattern identification.
