AbstractWe report on the realization of a solid-state single-photon source in the near infrared at room temperature. It is based on the photoluminescence of a single NE8 colour center in a CVD grown diamond nanocrystal. Antibunching has been observed in the fluorescence light under both continuous and pulsed excitation. Our source delivers 30 kcts/s single-photon pulses at an excitation repetition rate of 20 MHz.

A commercial noise dose meter was used to estimate the equivalent noise dose received through high-gain hearing aids worn in a school for deaf children. There were no significant differences among nominal SSPL settings and all SSPL settings produced very high equivalent noise doses, although these are within the parameters of previous projections.

AbstractIRTS is a small cryogenically cooled telescope onboard the small space platform SFU (Space Flyer Unit). SFU will be launched with the new Japanese HII rocket on January 1994 and retrieved by the space shuttle. The IRTS telescope has an aperture of only 15 cm diameter, but is optimized to observe diffuse extended infrared sources. Four focal plane instruments are being developed under collaboration between Japan and the U.S.A. IRTS covers a wide wavelength range from near-infrared to submillimeter region, and has a capability for the spectroscopic measurement. Due to newly developed detectors, the sky will be surveyed with very high sensitivities. IRTS will provide valuable data on cosmology, galactic structure, cosmic dust, etc.

Abstract:Gd2GaSbO7:Cr3+,Yb3+ phosphors with efficient broadband NIR emission were prepared by solid-state reaction. Under the excitation of 448 nm, Gd2GaSbO7:Cr3+ (GGS:Cr3+) phosphor exhibits a broadband NIR emission band centered at approximately...
