Microlens-array based plenoptic cameras capture the light field in a single shot, enabling new potential applications but also introducing additional challenges. A plenoptic image consists of thousand of microlens images. Estimating the disparity for each microlens allows to render conventional images, changing the perspective and the focal settings, and to reconstruct the three-dimensional geometry of the scene. The work includes a blur-aware calibration method to model plenoptic cameras, an optimization method to accurately select the best microlenses combination for disparity estimation, an overview of the different types of plenoptic cameras, an analysis of the disparity estimation algorithms, and a robust depth estimation approach for light field microscopy. The research led to the creation of a full framework for plenoptic cameras, which contains the implementation of the algorithms discussed in the work and datasets of both real and synthetic images for comparison, benchmarking and future research.

Disparity is inversely proportional to depth. Informationabout depth is a key factor in many real time applicationslikecomputer vision applications, medical diagnosis, model precision etc. Disparity is measured first in order to calculate the depth that suitsthe real world applications. There are two approaches viz., active and passive methods. Due to its cost effectiveness, passive approach is the most popular approach. In spite of this, the measures arelimited by its occlusion, more number of objects and texture areas. So, effective and efficient stereo depth estimation algorithms have taken the toll on the researchers. Theimportant goal of stereo vision algorithms is the disparity map calculation between twoimages clicked the same time. These pictures are taken using two cameras. We have implemented the non-parametric algorithmsfor stereo vision viz., Rank and Census transform in both single processor and multicore processors are implemented andthe results showsits time efficient by 1500 times.

Monitoring vegetation encroachment under overhead high voltage power line is a challenging problem for electricity distribution companies. Absence of proper monitoring could result in damage to the power lines and consequently cause blackout. This will affect electric power supply to industries, businesses, and daily life. Therefore, to avoid the blackouts, it is mandatory to monitor the vegetation/trees near power transmission lines. Unfortunately, the existing approaches are more time consuming and expensive. In this paper, we have proposed a novel approach to monitor the vegetation/trees near or under the power transmission poles using satellite stereo images, which were acquired using Pleiades satellites. The 3D depth of vegetation has been measured near power transmission lines using stereo algorithms. The area of interest scanned by Pleiades satellite sensors is 100 square kilometer. Our dataset covers power transmission poles in a state called Sabah in East Malaysia, encompassing a total of 52 poles in the area of 100 km. We have compared the results of Pleiades satellite stereo images using dynamic programming and Graph-Cut algorithms, consequently comparing satellites’ imaging sensors and Depth-estimation Algorithms. Our results show that Graph-Cut Algorithm performs better than dynamic programming (DP) in terms of accuracy and speed.

The results are presented for the validation of a videotape as an analogous situation for a flight. The video includes the most significant elements of a flight by air: confirmation of the flight, packing, going to the airport, checking-in, going through the metal-detector, departure lounge, boarding the plane, demonstration of the personal safety drills, interiors and exteriors during the flight and landing. Two physiological measures are used for validation (heart rate and temperature) and a subjective measure (situational anxiety, SA). The results (both t-tests and the discriminant analysis) indicate that the videotape is able to discriminate between phobics and non-phobics of flying in the three variables considered. With respect to sensitivity in detecting change produced by various treatments in clients with phobia of flying, the results are also satisfactory. A greater differentiation is produced between the pre-post treatment measures, both in subjective and in the physiological measures.

Accurate interpretation of interferometric image requires an extremely challenging task based on actual phase reconstruction for incomplete noise observation. In spite of the establishment of comprehensive solutions, until now, a guaranteed means of solution method is yet to exist. The initially observed interferometric image is formed by 2π-periodic phase image that wrapped within (-π, π]. Such inverse problem is further corrupted by noise distortion and leads to the degradation of interferometric image. In order to overcome this, an effective algorithm that enables noise suppression and absolute phase reconstruction of interferometric phase image is proposed. The proposed method incorporates an improved order statistical filter that is able to adjust or vary on its filtering rate by adapting to phase noise level of relevant interferometric image. Performance of proposed method is evaluated and compared with other existing phase estimation algorithms. The comparison is based on a series of computer simulated and real interferometric data images. The experiment results illustrate the effectiveness and competency of the proposed method.
