This article demonstrated an easily applicable method for measuring the similarity between a pair of point patterns, which applies to spatial or temporal data sets. Such a measurement was performed using similarity-based pattern analysis as an alternative to conventional approaches, which typically utilize straightforward point-to-point matching. Using our approach, in each point data set, two geometric features (i.e., the distance and angle from the centroid) were calculated and represented as probability density functions (PDFs). The PDF similarity of each geometric feature was measured using nine metrics, with values ranging from zero (very contrasting) to one (exactly the same). The overall similarity was defined as the average of the distance and angle similarities. In terms of sensibility, the method was shown to be capable of measuring, at a human visual sensing level, two pairs of hypothetical patterns, presenting reasonable results. Meanwhile, in terms of the method′s sensitivity to both spatial and temporal displacements from the hypothetical origin, the method is also capable of consistently measuring the similarity of spatial and temporal patterns. The application of the method to assess both spatial and temporal pattern similarities between two deforestation data sets with different resolutions was also discussed.

Abstract Trajectory synthesis for robot manipulators with redundant kinematic degrees-of-freedom has been studied by numerous investigators. Redundant manipulators are of interest since the redundant degrees-of-freedom can be used to improve the local and global kinematic and dynamic performance of a system. As a robot manipulator is forced to track a given trajectory, the required actuating torques (forces) may excite the natural modes of vibration of the system. Noting that manipulators with revolute joints have nonlinear dynamics, high harmonic excitation torques are generally generated even though such harmonics have been eliminated from the synthesized trajectories and filtered from the drive inputs. In this paper, a redundancy resolution method is developed based on the Trajectory Pattern Method (TPM) to synthesize trajectories such that the actuating torques required to realize them do not contain higher harmonic components with significant amplitudes. With such trajectories, a robot manipulator can operate at higher speeds and achieve higher tracking accuracy with suppressed residual vibration. As an example, optimal trajectories are synthesized for point to point motions of a plane 3R manipulator.

SpaceWire is a point-to-point bit shipping protocol for high-speed data communication links and networks providing equipment compatibility and seamless component reusability. It has found great application in many space missions reducing the development cost, offering architectural flexibility and improving reliability. This chapter delves into the standard describing the SpaceWire, focusing on the lower levels that play a key role in the electromagnetic behavior of the system and concern cable assemblies, shielding, bonding, and grounding. Findings regarding emissions affecting spacecraft components are presented as well as other EMC issues that have an impact on the system performance. Recent developments and upcoming updates to the standard are also presented and discussed.

AbstractNowadays, bandwidth demand is enormously increasing, that causes the existing passive optical network (PON) to become the future optical access network. In this paper, next generation passive optical network 2 (NG-PON2) based, optical time division multiplexing passive optical network (OTDM-PON), wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) and time & wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (TWDM-PON) systems with 20 Gbps (8 × 2.5 Gbps) downstream and 20 Gbps (8 × 2.5 Gbps) upstream capacity for eight optical network units has been proposed. The performance has been compared by varying the input power (−6 to 27 dBm) and transmission distance (10–130 km) in terms of Q-factor and optical received power in the presence of fiber noise and non-linearities. It has been observed that TWDM-PON outperforms OTDM-PON and WDM-PON for high input power and data rate (20/20 Gbps). Also, TWDM-PON shows its superiority for long-reach transmission up to 130 km, which is a cost-effective solution for future NG-PON2 applications.

A confidentiality system generally needs to operate under a non-network environment. Hence, the adoption of an offline model is necessary to realize data sharing. An offline data-sharing model based on encrypted Extensible Markup Language (XML) files is designed. The combination of various techniques, such as XML mode, XML encryption, and XML signature, and the introduction of the Security Solution Support Center enable the proposed model to achieve a safe point-to-point data interactive mode and a security-based software module. The software system based on this model can ensure that data files generated from the data provider could only be identified and verified by the authorized data receiver.
