Holographic three-dimensional (3D) imaging of Terra-Cotta Warrior model using Fractional Fourier Transform is introduced in this paper. Phase holograms of Terra-Cotta Warrior model are calculated from 60 horizontal viewing-angles by the use of fractional Fourier transform (FRT). Multiple phase holograms are calculated for each angle by adding proper pseudorandom phase to reduce the speckle noise of a reconstructed image. Experimental system based on high-resolution phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM) is built for 3D image reconstruction from the calculated phase holograms. The texture of the Terra-Cotta Warrior model is rough. The calculation of rough texture is optimized in order to show better model details. The effects of computing distance and layer thickness on imaging quality are analyzed finally.

Abstract Based on the successful single-photon 3D light field photolithography we demonstrated in the last year, we extend the methodology to femtosecond 3D light field lithography. Compared with our previous single-photon work with UV LED light, using femtosecond light and the associated two-photon light absorption in 3D light field lithography can cure photoresist only around designed voxel locations in a 3D space. Such a two-photon scheme can prevent the unwilling curing of photoresists along the optical paths of rays before arriving at designed voxel locations, which is observed in our previous UV LED-based single-photon 3D light field lithography. The experimental scheme of femtosecond two-photon 3D light field lithography starts from delivering uniform femtosecond laser pulses to a spatial light modulator. The designed pixel map is presented on the spatial light modulator and then delivered to a microlens array to construct a 3D virtual image in the free space. By compressing the 3D virtual image in a photoresist layer with a microscope system, we can successfully generate different microscale 3D patterns without relying on scanning processes as in traditional 3D lithography. In this study, we present preliminary results of (a) algorithms developed to generated 3D patterns with femtosecond light, which should satisfy additional constraints when femtosecond light is used, and (b) 3D patterns generated in photoresists with femtosecond two-photon 3D light field lithography.

Abstract Holography has attracted tremendous interest due to its capability of storing both the amplitude and phase of light field and reproducing vivid three-dimensional scenes. However, the large pixel size, low resolution, small field-of-view (FOV) and limited space-bandwidth of traditional spatial light modulator (SLM) devices restrict the possibility of improving the quality of reconstructed images. With the development of nanofabrication technologies, metasurfaces have shown great potential in manipulating the amplitude, phase, polarization, frequency or simultaneously multiple parameters of output light in ultrashort distance with subwavelength resolution by tailoring the scattering behaviour of consisted nanostructures. Such flexibilities make metasurface a promising candidate for holographic related applications. Here, we review recent progresses in the field of metasurface holography. From the perspective of the fundamental properties of light, we classify the metasurface holography into several categories such as phase-only holography, amplitude-only holography, complex amplitude holography and so on. Then, we introduce the corresponding working principles and design strategies. Meanwhile, some emerging types of metasurface holography such as tunable holography, nonlinear holography, Janus (or directional related) and bilayer metasurfaces holography are also discussed. At last, we make our outlook on metasurface holography and discuss the challenges we may face in the future.
