Measurements of spectral and energy X-ray characteristics of almost transparent Fe plasma produced by laser radiation inside the inverted-corona targets have been made at ISKRA-5 facility. The targets were spherical plastics cavities with 2-mm diameter and 4.6-μm thickness covered from inside with Fe layer 0.25-μm thickness. X-ray spectrum, X-ray total energy, and the energy of a HeαFe resonance line have been measured. Experimental data and calculation results are collated.

Abstract Single crystals of SrLaNiO4 were prepared with a new high temperature and high oxygen pressure method (CO2-Laser radiation). The X-ray investigation shows, that this compound belongs to the K2NiF4-type (a - 381.3; c = 1268.7 pm; space group D174h-I4/mmm), with a stretched octahedral oxygen coordination around Ni3+. The octahedral distortion can only be explained by a geometrical effect.

AbstractThe paper presents a general theoretical framework and related Monte Carlo simulation of novel type of the X-ray sources based on relativistic Thomson scattering of powerful laser radiation. Special attention is paid to the linac X-ray generators by way of two examples: conceptual design for production of 12.4 keV photons and presently operating X-ray source of 29.4 keV photons. Our analysis shows that state-of-the-art laser and accelerator technologies enable to build up a compact linac-based Thomson source for the same X-ray imaging and diffraction experiments as in using of a large-scale X-ray radiation facility like a synchrotron or Thomson generator based on electron storage ring.

A device producing Z-pinching plasma as a source of XUV radiation is described. Here a ceramic capacitor bank pulse-charged up to 100 kV is discharged through a pre-ionized gas-filled ceramic tube 3.2 mm in diameter and 21 cm in length. The discharge current has amplitude of 20 kA and a rise-time of 65 ns. The apparatus will serve as experimental device for studying of capillary discharge plasma, for testing X-ray optics elements and for investigating the interaction of water-window radiation with biological samples. After optimization it will be able to produce 46.9 nm laser radiation with collision pumped Ne-like argon ions active medium.
