The pedestrian navigation system (PNS) based on inertial navigation system-extended Kalman filter-zero velocity update (INS-EKF-ZUPT or IEZ) is widely used in complex environments without external infrastructure owing to its characteristics of autonomy and continuity. IEZ, however, suffers from performance degradation caused by the dynamic change of process noise statistics and heading estimation errors. The main goal of this study is to effectively improve the accuracy and robustness of pedestrian localization based on the integration of the low-cost foot-mounted microelectromechanical system inertial measurement unit (MEMS-IMU) and ultrasonic sensor. The proposed solution has two main components: (1) the fuzzy inference system (FIS) is exploited to generate the adaptive factor for extended Kalman filter (EKF) after addressing the mismatch between statistical sample covariance of innovation and the theoretical one, and the fuzzy adaptive EKF (FAEKF) based on the MEMS-IMU/ultrasonic sensor for pedestrians was proposed. Accordingly, the adaptive factor is applied to correct process noise covariance that accurately reflects previous state estimations. (2) A straight motion heading update (SMHU) algorithm is developed to detect whether a straight walk happens and to revise errors in heading if the ultrasonic sensor detects the distance between the foot and reflection point of the wall. The experimental results show that horizontal positioning error is less than 2% of the total travelled distance (TTD) in different environments, which is the same order of positioning error compared with other works using high-end MEMS-IMU. It is concluded that the proposed approach can achieve high performance for PNS in terms of accuracy and robustness.

Detected the cracks in porcelain insulator is a strategy to prevent failure. This study proposes a remote detect technique to inspect the cracks in on-line porcelain insulator based on laser-generation based imaging (LGBI) method. Two porcelain insulators samples A and B were designed. Samples A is a 10kv porcelain insulator work outdoors, it has five artificial notch-type defects in the cylindrical surface of porcelain insulator. Sample B is a 10kv porcelain insulator work indoor with aging cracks. All defects in two specimens were detected by laser ultrasonic visualizing inspector (LUVI). Images are quite convenient to confirm cracks morphology. The experiment proves that the cracks in porcelain insulator can be detected by LUVI system.

Every year, flood impose substantial economic, social and environmental cost on Nepalese community through direct damage to residential, commercial, educational and structures. Moreover, the flood destroys animal farm, commercial stock and records and other content of the building and pollutes the water. Early Warning Systems are important to save such lives and properties which involves computer, satellite data and high accurate operating system but this system is very costly in terms of installation as well as operation and maintenance leading to hindrance in the sustainability of the system. However, high-tech technology is very expensive and not feasible in Nepal and therefore low-cost and easy operating system is needed in the rural parts of Nepal. The system includes Solar panel, Siren, Ultrasonic sensor, processing unit, and battery. The ultrasonic sensor sense water level and the siren will automatically start. This paper describes a design of industrial modelling process of bacterial cellulose production. The main factors for the economic unfeasibility of this production are raw material price, plant capacity and capital cost. The purpose of this modelling is developing, studying, and evaluating process control technology in order to achieve low-cost preparation and high biocellulose (BC) production in industrial scale. In this model, glucose, a simple carbohydrate has been chosen as the carbon source. The aerobic fermentation ofAcetobacterxylinumis regulated at particular temperature and pH to ensure maximum yield production. This fermentation process involves six stages that are sterilization, inoculation, fermentation, treatment, waste removal and drying/freezing. Nineteen streams will control and monitor the whole processes. The waste will undergo treatment in NaOH tank followed by sedimentation tank and filtration process for removal. Meanwhile, the BC is purified through drying and freezing process to preserve the product from contamination. This design shows that modelling is a powerful methodology for predicting and prioritizing methods of re‐engineering an industrial process in order to achieve greater performance.
