Near-infrared surface-enhanced Raman scattering (NIR SERS) spectra were obtained for 2,2-bipyridine, 5,6-benzoquinoline, pyrene, anthracene, and fluoranthene on SERS pre-activated thin-layer chromatography (TLC) plates by Fourier transform (FT) Raman spectroscopy. The pre-activation of TLC plates was based on a procedure of dipping the plates into a solution of silver oxalate and the subsequent pyrolysis of adsorbed silver oxalate forming silver particles on the plates. The effects of the type of TLC plates, the time of immersion in the silver oxalate solution, and the time of pyrolysis are discussed with respect to the SERS activity of the systems formed.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) represents an important phenomenon that can solve the low signal intensity of Raman spectroscopy. In this study, we investigated the effect of various Pt nanostructures on the sensitivity of SERS.
