Abstract The data presented in this paper document the operation and service requirements for the 25 kW Stirling Energy Systems (SES)/Boeing Dish Stirling system. Among the information presented are the hydrogen used by the system, oil and water service requirements, and reliability data in the form of a component outage tree. Also presented are discussions of the problems that have occurred during the thousands of hours of on-sun operation of two dish/Stirling systems, which comprise two solar concentrators and three power conversion units (PCUs). We have identified a number changes to the design of the 15-year-old dish/Stirling system. However, based on the performance of the systems and the data presented in this paper, there appear to be no serious obstacles to the commercialization of this technology.

Workshop organized by INDIGO project as a collaborative activity among EU funded projects in the area of District Energy Systems. The objective of the workshop was twofold: (1) to create a cluster of European funded projects working in the area of Energy Systems; and (2) to create a networking opportunity in which to share experiences on the results and difficulties of the researches, and to identify synergies.

<div>Corrective transmission system operation can help integrate more renewable energy sources and save redispatch costs by providing a higher utilization of the power grid.</div><div>However, reliable and fast provision of flexibility are key to achieve corrective operation. <br></div><div>This work develops a new method to determine if flexibility from distribution grids is available on transmission corridors when needed. An analysis of the German energy system in the year 2030 is performed to estimate the potential of different flexibility options and shows the potential flexibility distribution systems can contribute to a corrective transmission system operation.<br> </div>

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) have been widely studied for their potential application as building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). While numerous efforts have been made to improve the performance, the photothermal (PT) properties of LSCs are rarely investigated. In this report, we studied the PT properties of an LSC with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.27% and a concentration ratio of 1.42. The results showed that the total PT power of the LSC was 13.2 W, and the heat was concentrated on the edge of the luminescent waveguide with a high heat power density of over 200 W m−2.

Photovoltaic (PV) energy has been competitive in power generation as an alternative to fossil energy resources over the past decades. The installation of grid-connected solar energy systems is expected to increase rapidly with the fast development of the power electronics technology. As the key to the interface of the PV energy and the grid, power converters should be reliable, efficient and comply with the grid requirements. Considering the nature of PV energy, the power conversion should be flexible (e.g., high step-up DC-DC conversion and harmonic-free DC-AC conversion). Accordingly, many power electronic converters have been reported in literature. Compared with isolated inverters, transformerless inverters show great advantages. This paper thus presents an overview of the transformerless step-up single-phase inverters for PV applications based on the dc-link configurations. Grid-connected PV inverters are classified as constant dc-link voltage structures, pseudo-dc-link voltage structures, pulsating dc-link voltage structures and integrated dc-link voltage structures. The discussion on the composition of different dc-link structures is presented, which provides guidance to select appropriate transformerless inverter topologies for PV applications.
