Estimation Method of Temperature Distribution and Energy Saving Technology of Air Conditioner in Data Center

Reducing the energy consumption of a data center has recently become important because the data center market is rapidly expanding. We developed the “IT-facility linkage system” to deal with this energy saving requirement. This system reduces the amount of energy consumed in a data center by linking two systems, one is the optimized server load allocation system and the other is the air conditioning optimization control system. One of the key technologies of the “IT-facility linkage system” is the precise prediction of the server inlet temperature. If we can comprehend the future temperature distributions, we can reduce the amount of energy consumed in a data center by consolidating the IT load to the more effectively cooled servers. We carried out computational thermal fluid dynamics to predict server inlet temperatures and evaluated the prediction precision by comparing the measured temperature data for this paper. As a result, we found out that when we use a detailed rack model and reproduce the characteristic air flow of a data center such as the recirculation, we can precisely predict the server inlet temperature to within less than one degree.

Based on field research of the room refrigeration conditions, data center room air conditioning system is carried out to optimize and for energy conservation research. Through the analytic methods of energy saving-technology, the best energy saving solutions is explored.

A data center energy-saving system and method based on virtual IT technology resource distribution technology is proposed in this paper. Through monitoring virtual environment resources in data center, the limited IT resources can be dynamically migrated and the auxiliary equipment resources such as air conditioner can be rationally managed. Then the resources can be reasonably and efficiently allocated by monitoring the virtual environment. With a closed-loop feedback control mechanism, it effectively improves the utilization of data center resources, and ultimately achieves the operation and maintenance for data center of green energy-saving target. This method was implemented in a true data center for cloud computing. Test results show that the total energy consumption of this system can be reduced by 13%, and the power usage effectiveness drops to 1.5.

This paper shows the energy consumption distribution of current data center, presents some effective energy-saving measures to reduce the energy consumption of a cloud computing data center. Raise an effective way to optimize the air distribution of the data center such as sealing the cold passageway. Through the use of ADU can solve the local overheating inside the equipment cabinet. The use of the modularization UPS, the high-voltage direct current technology and harmonic suppression can improve the efficiency of the power supply system.
