This paper reports about the research based on the comparison of tests about the spatial skill of engineering students from two Spanish universities before and after the performance of specific training for improving several abilities based on tasks with 3D objects visualized through augmented reality technology. The training was completed at home with 66 students as participants, considering a control group composed of 25 students from both universities. The AR system technical aspects are also described as well as the application developed. The study’s results show that students from both universities improve their spatial ability and there is no significant statistical significance between students from both universities, neither before nor after training so we may conclude that training’s effect on both universities is analogue.

This paper presents the results of a study designed to evaluate the effect of attending an intensive remedial course based on desktop augmented reality exercises to improve the spatial ability of freshman engineering students. Many of these students have problems in managing visual information or in creating mental models of objects represented by their orthographic projections. The study reports about research on comparison tests about the spatial skills of engineering students from two Spanish universities before and after performing a specific training for improving these abilities. The training was completed by 66 students as participants, considering a control group composed of 25 students from both universities. Results show that students from both universities improve their spatial ability and there is no statistical significance between students from both universities, neither before nor after training, so we may conclude that training’s effect on both universities is analogue.

BACKGROUND Balance training in young adults may increase coordination, cognitive function or the symmetry of strength on both sides of the body. It is an essential tool for injury or fall prevention and a precondition for becoming a professional athlete. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Xbox 360 Kinect training on postural balance in young, healthy individuals. METHODS The study enrolled 75 individuals who were randomly assigned to three equal groups. The first group (Group VR) performed exercises on an Xbox 360 Kinect console, and the second group (Group T) performed conventional all-round exercises. The third group was a control group (Group C). Each group underwent balance assessments on the Biodex Balance posturographic platform, including the Balance Error Scoring System test, before and after the training cycle. The level of statistical significance was set at P<.05. RESULTS Group VR and Group T achieved statistically significant improvements in the sway index compared with baseline. Group T gained significant decrease in the sway index on the unstable surface (P=.002). Group VR and group T demonstrated significant decreases in the mean sway index on stable and unstable surfaces (group VR — P=.035; group T — P=.001) Group C did not achieve a statistically significant improvement in the sway index. None of the groups demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in the test error count. CONCLUSIONS Virtual reality in the form of video games played on an Xbox 360 Kinect console may be an effective method of balance training in healthy individuals.

The study aims at evaluating health-generating function of humor therapy in a hospital ward hosting children suffering from respiratory pathologies. The main scope of this study is to investigate possible positive effects of the presence of a clown on both the clinical evolution of the on-going disease, and on some physiological and pain parameters. Forty-three children with respiratory pathologies participated in the study: 21 of them belonged to the experimental group (EG) and 22 children to the control group (CG). During their hospitalization, the children of the EG interacted with two clowns who were experienced in the field of pediatric intervention. All participants were evaluated with respect to clinical progress and to a series of physiological and pain measures both before and after the clown interaction. When compared with the CG, EG children showed an earlier disappearance of the pathological symptoms. Moreover, the interaction of the clown with the children led to a statistically significant lowering of diastolic blood pressure, respiratory frequency and temperature in the EG as compared with the control group. The other two parameters of systolic pressure and heart frequency yielded results in the same direction, without reaching statistical significance. A similar health-inducing effect of clown presence was observed on pain parameters, both by self evaluation and assessment by nurses. Taken together, our data indicate that the presence of clowns in the ward has a possible health-inducing effect. Thus, humor can be seen as an easy-to-use, inexpensive and natural therapeutic modality to be used within different therapeutic settings.

 Purpose: to explore and discuss the effects of PAD Class Teaching Model on nursing students who are expected to enter undergraduate schools from junior colleges. Method: Randomly select 112 students from two classes (2016) who are expected to enter undergraduate schools from junior colleges in a medical school in Pingdingshan, and divide them into a control group and an experimental group using a method of cluster randomization. In the teaching process of “Nursing Psychology”, the control group and the experimental group respectively adopted the traditional teaching mode and the PAD class teaching mode. After the implementation of one semester, compare the nursing students’ learning attitudes change before and after the implementation. Results: The scores of the nursing students in the experimental group at the three latitudes of learning interests, learning habits, and professional cognition were significantly higher than those of the control group, and the differences have statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusions: PAD class teaching mode helps improve nursing students’ learning attitudes.

Abstract In this article, we evaluate the hypothesis that a multimodal cognitive training (MCT) program, the Brighter Minds, can enhance certain inherent traits of a child and thus bring changes in the external behavior. For the study, 186 children (randomized to 93 each in intervention and control group) aged 10-15 years were enrolled from three different locations. Psychometric tests, parental/caregiver interviews and EEG (electroencephalography) tests were conducted before and after the program. Intervention group showed strong statistical significance for improvements in Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) (P<0.01) but no significance for Raven’s Standard Progrssive Matrices (SPM) or Susan Harter’s test. The parental/caregiver reported satistically significant improvements in focus (P<0.05), empathy (P<0.05), intuition (P<0.05), comprehension (P<0.05) and understanding of abstract concepts (P<0.05) for the intervention group. For the control, Power Spectral Density (PSD) of the baseline eyes-closed (EC) EEG recording, the spectrum below 20Hz exhibited the characteristic “1/f” spectral scaling of the power-law. This signature matches prior reported evidence in literature of those in wakeful state with EC. The intervention group EC PSD, however, exhibited a signature similar to those in a slow sleep state; reflective of the possible transfer effect of the training on other skills like relaxation. We used unsupervised learning methods with dice distance, on the psychometric and interview data, to show the effect of location and the exposure of a few control children to the program.

Background and Study Aim: To examine the effects of periodized functional strength training (FST) on FMS scores of sport university students with higher risk of injury. Material and Methods: Thirty three  participants (age 21.6±1.3 years, height 177.8±6.9 m, mass 80.4±7.7 kg) with FMS total score ≤ 14 were selected from eighty two volunteered students of University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk and randomly assigned to experimental group (n=16) and control group (n=17). The FMS test was conducted one week before and one week after the 12 week training intervention. The experimental group participated in FST program through 12 weeks. The control group did not engaged in any additional physical activity than planned in their course of study. The  collected  data  were  analysed  using Statistica 13.3 pl (StatSoft Inc). Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to establish the statistical significance of the difference between FMS total scores within each group and Mann Whitney U test between groups before and after the 12 week training intervention. Results: 45 % of volunteers in the first FMS testing showed total scores ≤14. The experimental group that participated in FST program changed significantly FMS total scores after 12 weeks (p<0.05). There were also significant differences in FMS total score between groups after the experiment (p<0.05). Conclusions: There is a need for injury prevention programs for students of University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk. It is clear from this study that FST is effective in improving FMS total score in students with cut off score ≤14.

Background and Purpose. The main goal of the study was to assess the usefulness of plasma concentrations of catestatin as a predictor of a composite endpoint (CE): unplanned hospitalization and death for all causes in patients with HFrEF in the midterm follow-up. Experimental Approach. The study group consisted of 52 Caucasian patients in NYHA classes II and III. The control group consisted of 24 healthy volunteers. The biomarkers, whose concentration was assessed before and after physical exertion as well as the variability of their concentration under the influence of the physical exertion, were NT-proBNP, troponin T, and catestatin. Key Results. During the 24-month follow-up period, 11 endpoints were recorded. The univariate analysis of the Cox proportional hazard model showed a statistically significant effect of all assessed CST concentrations on the occurrence of CE. In the 24-month follow-up, where the starting concentration of catestatin was compared with other recognized prognostic factors in HF, the initial concentration of catestatin showed statistical significance in CE prognosis as the only parameter tested. Conclusions. Plasma concentration of catestatin before and after physical exertion is a valuable prognostic parameter in predicting death from all causes and unplanned hospitalization in the group of patients with HFrEF in the 2-year follow-up.

Abstract With the popularization of augmented reality technology in the field of teaching, the development from traditional teaching display to classroom application has greatly promoted the information-based teaching work. The work of this study is to use augmented reality technology in a wireless communication environment to apply to handball guidance. In this study, 13 handball teachers (coaches) and 103 student athletes were selected as subjects from seven traditional handball schools in our state. All subjects were tested in the Kolb learning style test scale (klsi 1985). It is divided into four groups: group A, group B, group C, and group D, depending on the various learning styles. These correspond to type of variance, type of assimilation, type of convergence, and type of adaptation. In this study, experimental staff were divided into two groups: a traditional learning control group and an experimental group of AR technology education. The results show that the improvement value of the experimental group before and after learning is 8.65, while that of the control group is 5.625. In terms of knowledge and skills, process and method, and emotional attitude, the use of AR makes assimilative and convergent learners have better learning performance than decentralized and adaptive learners. The conclusion is that the effect of augmented reality technology under wireless communication is excellent and effective in handball teaching. This study provides a new method for intelligent teaching.

Abstract Background:This study explored the role of GFAP and S100B as cerebral biomarkers in the pre-operative evaluation and post-operative efficacy in monitoring of carotid stent implantation. Method:32 with unilateral carotid stenosis who underwent carotid artery stenting (CAS) enrolled in the CAS group. The blood samples of operation patients were collected on three different time points: T1: the day before operation; T2: 24 hours after operation; T3, 72 hours after operation. 32 who were excluded for carotid artery stenosis by Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) were selected as the control group. The blood samples of patients in control group were collected at D1 (before DSA) and D2 (24 hours after DSA). Results:(1). The serum concentrations of GFAP and S100B was higher in the CAS group before operation than those in DSA group(P<0.05). (2). In the operation group, GFAP and S100B increased significantly on the first day after operation (T2) and decreased gradually on the third day after operation (T3) but increased compared with that before operation (T1) with statistical significance (P < 0.05). (3). For patients with symptomatic stenosis before operation, the concentrations of GFAP and S100B in serum were higher than those in patients without symptomatic stenosis (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The cerebral biochemical markers GFAP and S100B have a certain change trend after CAS, which can be used as a method to evaluate and monitor the curative effect before and after carotid artery stent implantation combined with imaging tools.

Biology is a science about living organisms. Organisms have complex systems consisting of complex organs. Focusing on the human body, if the organ or its structure is visually presented, the learners are more likely to understand it and its function. This research aims to explore the bilingual (Thai and English language), development of an augmented reality tool for use in teaching students about the human heart. The augmented reality application was evaluated by five experts, who analyzed its content consistency by using the Index of Item Objective Congruence (IOC), Diffusion of Innovation (DOI), and the content validity index (CVI), indicating that the augmented reality can be used for publicizing. A sample of 30 subjects were evaluated after AR training. It was determined that the learning result post AR obtained higher ratings when compared with the ratings prior to the use of augmented reality tool. The before and after augmented reality learning results were analyzed for statistical significance at p value < 0.001 with the use of a T-Test. Afterwards, the effectiveness of the tool was evaluated by users focusing on the acceptance of the augmented reality tool to teach the anatomy of the heart; the evaluation of which was based on the theory of Unified Theory Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) in which the results of the arithmetic mean and the standard deviation were 4.65 and 0.48, respectively. This demonstrated that the users generally accepted the augmented reality tool to teach about the heart at the highest level.
