The effect of analogical distance between design stimuli and design problem on novelty and quality of generated concepts is investigated in this research. Data from a design project involving 105 student designers, divided into 21 teams and individually generating 226 concepts of spherical rolling robots, is collected. From this data, 138 concepts generated with patents as stimuli and the patents used as stimuli are analyzed. Analogical distance of a patent is measured in terms of the knowledge distance of the technology classes constituting this patent from the technology classes constituting the design problem domain of spherical rolling robots. The key findings are: (a) technology classes in closer than farther distance from the design problem are used more frequently to generate concepts, (b) as analogical distance increases the novelty of concepts increases, and (c) as analogical distance decreases the quality of concepts increases. These observations have implications on choosing stimuli to generate concepts of desired novelty and quality.

Identifying relevant stimuli that help generate solutions of desired novelty and quality is challenging in analogical design. To quell this challenge, the multifaceted effects of using stimuli which are located at various analogical distances to the design problem on the novelty and quality of concepts generated using the stimuli are studied in this research. Data from a design project involving 105 student designers, individually generating 226 concepts of spherical rolling robots, are collected. From these data, 138 concepts generated with patents as stimuli and the patents used are analyzed. Analogical distance of a patent is measured in terms of knowledge similarity between technology classes constituting the patent and design problem domain of spherical rolling robots. The key observations are (a) technology classes in closer than farther distances from the design problem are used more frequently to generate concepts, (b) as analogical distance increases the novelty of concepts increases, and (c) as analogical distance decreases the quality of concepts increases.

The article presents research data on the de-pendence between the yield and quality of grapes and shoot load. The studies were car-ried out at the All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after Ya.I. Potapenko, Novocherkassk, Rostov re-gion. On the root-own vineyards of the Per-venets Magaracha variety tolerant to phyllox-era, the following load rates were studied: 30; 35; 40; 45 shoots per bush. For two years of research, the maximum yield was obtained in plantations with a load of 45 shoots per plant: in 2019 - 23.2; in 2020 - 14.7 t / ha with the mass concentration of sugars in berry juice 183 and 170 g / dm3, respectively. The best indicators of the quality of grapes were marked in the variant with the minimum load of shoots in the experiment: the mass concen-tration of sugars in berry juice was 196 g / dm3 in 2019 and 180 g / dm3 in 2020; the concentration of titratable acids was 7.6 and 8.8 g / dm3, respectively.

Open research data (ORD) have been considered a driver of scientific transparency. However, data friction, as the phenomenon of data underutilisation for several causes, has also been pointed out. A factor often called into question for ORD low usage is the quality of the ORD and associated metadata. This work aims to illustrate the use of ORD, published by the Figshare scientific repository, concerning their scientific discipline, their type and compared with the quality of their metadata. Considering all the Figshare resources and carrying out a programmatic quality assessment of their metadata, our analysis highlighted two aspects. First, irrespective of the scientific domain considered, most ORD are under-used, but with exceptional cases which concentrate most researchers’ attention. Second, there was no evidence that the use of ORD is associated with good metadata publishing practices. These two findings opened to a reflection about the potential causes of such data friction.

This paper focuses on the characteristics of research data quality, and aims to cover the most important issues related to it, giving particular attention to its attributes and to data governance. The corporate word’s considerable interest in the quality of data is obvious in several thoughts and issues reported in business-related publications, even if there are apparent differences between values and approaches to data in corporate and in academic (research) environments. The paper also takes into consideration that addressing data quality would be unimaginable without considering big data.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a new way of part production which opens up new perspectives of conception as mass and cost reduction and increase of functionalities. However these processes have their own characteristics which as for all the manufacturing processes have a direct impact on the manufactured parts quality. Especially, because the manufacturing trajectories have a influence on the physical phenomena during the process, they have also a strong impact on the quality of the produced parts in terms of geometry. In this paper, the choice of manufacturing trajectories and their impacts on the final shape and quality of the parts is integrated into a global Design For Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) methodology which allows to move from functional specifications of a design problem to a proposition of an adapted part for AM processes.
