Visually Guided Object Insertion by Cooperative Robots in Unstructured Environments

In field environments it is not usually possible to provide robots in advance with valid geometric models of its environment and task element locations. The robot or robot teams need to create and use these models to locate critical task elements by performing appropriate sensor based actions. Here, an information-based iterative algorithm to intelligently plan the robot’s visual exploration strategy is proposed to enable it to efficiently build 3D models of its environment and task elements. The method assumes mobile robot or vehicle with cameras carried by articulated mounts. The algorithm uses the measured scene information to find the next camera position based on expected new information content of that pose. This is achieved by utilizing a metric derived from Shannon’s information theory to determine optimal sensing poses for the agent(s) mapping a highly unstructured environment. Once an appropriate environment model has been built, the quality of the information content in the model is used to determine the constraint-based optimum view for task execution. Experimental demonstrations on a cooperative robot platform performing an assembly task in the field show the effectiveness of this algorithm for single and multiple cooperating robotic systems.

Various 3D solid model representation schemes are developed to capture and process geometrical information of physical 3D objects as accurately and precisely as possible with the consideration of storage and computational complexity. These representation schemes are error prone, and their limitations prohibit them to capture all the pertinent information perfectly for a complex 3D object. Many applications in design involve repetitive conversions between several representation schemes to efficiently evaluate and operate on solid models. Mapping one representation to other degrades the quality, correctness, and completeness of the information content. In this paper, we quantify the degradation of the proxy representation models by taking inspiration from the hysteresis concept applied in different fields, such as magnetism, mechanics, control systems, cell biology, and economics. We propose a method to compute the error remanence using quantitative measures of information content and quality of proxy models. We also discuss the areas of future research such as sequencing of operations in computational work-flows that would benefit by utilizing the error remanence metric.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the service demand of existing users and potential users for mobile information services provided by university libraries in China. The primary objective is to explore the impact of user experience on user needs, which is conducted by a comparison between two user groups over their needs from three aspects – service function, service mode and information content. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected from 353 library users from ten Chinese universities via questionnaires. Based on the user needs model, three dimensions of user needs were established for mobile information services and 26 measurement items were generated through a review of the literature. Furthermore, based on frequency analysis, independent samples t-test and the calculation of need rate, the demand differences in mobile information services between existing and potential users were explored. Findings Significant differences existed in the needs for service functions and service modes of mobile information services between existing users and potential users. Existing users cared more about such characteristics as intelligence, personalization and the variety of mobile services. Potential users, in contrast, concerned themselves more with the usability of mobile services and similarity to traditional information services. These two user groups showed little difference in the needs for information content, as they both have strict requirements for specialty, richness in and quality of information resources in mobile network environments. Originality/value Previous research on user needs for mobile libraries services has been primarily conducted from the perspectives of existing users. This study, however, compared the needs of existing and potential users based on their previous experiences, which can help libraries to know better what their users need and improve the quality of mobile information services to meet those needs. This can also make existing users more willing to use the services and cultivate the usage habits of potential users at the same time.

A consistent approach to improving the quality of draft of normative legal acts contributes to the development of socio-economic relations in the country, reducing bureaucratic procedures and generally improves public administration. The quality of rule-making and its effectiveness largely determine the implementtion of a particular state policy task. Kazakhstan has created all conditions for the development of legislation and its improvement. Moreover, measures are being taken to introduce new information technologies to adjust existing legal norms. The article describes the existing system of state rulemaking, as well as the prospects for using new technologies.

Analysis of 3D-printing methods used in the molding production to manufacture master-models has been carried out. The technology was selected, which allowed one to make high-precision parts, combining the molding and the 3D-printing. Factors effecting on the quality of 3D-models printed by this technology were analyzed. Experimental studied for determination of the printing parameter influence (layer thickness, filling percentage, printing velocity) on ultimate strength of specimens made of ABS-plastic were carried out.

Summary Objective: There have been many studies on adenomyosis, which can impair the quality of life of a woman. There are various kinds of opinions on the pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of adenomyosis. The goal of this article is to present the current knowledge of adenomyosis and its impact on the endometrial function and receptivity. Methods: PubMed/Medline, Web of Sciences and Scopus were searched for the articles in English indexed until February 2021 with terms of: adenomyosis, endometrial receptivity, and infertility. Results: Recent studies on angiogenesis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in the endometrium bring new information on the ethiology and pathogenesis of adenomyosis. In clinical practice, the main diagnostic methods of adenomyosis include transvaginal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging or hysteroscopy, although the definitive confirmation is set by histopathological examination. The rules of #Enzian classification of endometriosis should be applied for the classification of adenomyosis. The treatment of adenomyosis should consider individual clinical presentation and reproductive plans of a patient and should be performed in centers for the treatment of endometriosis. Conclusion: Adenomyosis affects endometrial vascularisation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition/mesenchymal-epithelial transition; thus, it can be the cause of irregular uterine bleeding or embryo implantation failure. The research and analysis of endometrial proteome could lead to the new ways of adenomyosis treatment.

Introduction/Objective. Rapid developments in information technologies lead to the wider use of digital representations of dental study models in orthodontics. Most popular way of digitizing the models is to use a 3D scanner and then perform measurements on 3D models, which requires additional and expensive hardware and software resources. In this paper we present an alternative approach based on the use of photogrammetry in the newly developed OrthoPhoto4D software that calculates and corrects perspective distortion errors. Methods. We measured individual tooth width for 24 teeth, 12 two-teeth segments as well as inter-molar and inter-canine distances on 50 models. Measurements are performed in OrthoPhoto4D software that uses four photographs of each model for measurements, uses QR codes for automation, calculates the camera position and corrects perspective distortion-caused errors in measurements. Obtained measurements are compared to ones obtained from models generated by structured light 3D scanner. Results. Statistical analysis strongly indicates that there is no significant difference between the two methods. The recorded differences also have no clinical impact as they have mean values of 0.2 mm for individual tooth widths, approximately 0.2 mm for two teeth segments, and under 0.3 mm for both intercanine and inter-molar distances. All recorded differences fall within the expected measurement error. Conclusion. We concluded that the described photogrammetry measurements performed in OrthoPhoto4D can be used in diagnosis and therapy planning.

In UAV mapping using direct geo-referencing, the formation of stochastic model generally takes into the account the different types of measurements required to estimate the 3D coordinates of the feature points. Such measurements include image tie point coordinate measurements, camera position measurements and camera orientation measurements. In the commonly used stochastic model, it is commonly assumed that all tie point measurements have the same variance. In fact, these assumptions are not always realistic and thus, can lead to biased 3D feature coordinates. Tie point measurements for different image feature objects may not have the same accuracy due to the facts that the geometric distribution of features, particularly their feature matching conditions are different. More importantly, the accuracies of the geo-referencing measurements should also be considered into the mapping process. In this paper, impacts of typical stochastic models on the UAV mapping are investigated. It has been demonstrated that the quality of the geo-referencing measurements plays a critical role in real-time UAV mapping scenarios.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the pattern of earnings management on growth and value companies in Indonesia. This study predicts that earnings management has information contents. Therefore, earnings management tends to degrade the quality of earnings, then affect the future profitability. This study analyzes the effect of earnings management information content to the company's future profitability. This study provides an understanding about accounting information at certain market price levels for growth and value companies. Findings: Findings of this study indicate the differences between earnings management influence on growth and value companies. The results also support the differences of relative incremental information content of earnings management on growth and value companies. The growth firms tend to do earnings management and have higher profitability compared to the value firms. The implication is that the incremental information content of earnings management on growth firms is lower than those of the value firms to predict future profitability.   Implication: The contribution of this research is to provide an in-depth review on earnings management study associated with company life cycle (growth and value), as well as  to give additional understanding about the existence of incremental information content of earnings management. Thus, firms show different earnings management behaviors and ultimately those behaviors affect the quality of profit to predict future earnings
