Tolerance Synthesis Method for an Industrial Crank-Rocker Application

Abstract An emphasis on reducing product development lead-times in the automotive industry has received much attention recently. The synthesis and design of windshield wiper drive mechanisms is no exception. This paper examines and develops the new concept of performance synthesis for crank-rocker linkages with two prescribed positions as applied to windshield wiper systems. Various performance criteria are evaluated with respect to the effect on the desired motion of the crank-rocker linkage by manufacturing tolerances, elastic deflections and joint clearances. Three performance criteria are mapped in the crank-rocker synthesis solution space to aid in the selection of solutions when considering the performance demands of the windshield wiper system. A case study is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new performance synthesis concept which simultaneously considers position tolerance sensitivity, transmission angles and angular acceleration magnitudes in the synthesis process.

Abstract This work, developed as a case study, propose, describe, and evaluates an implementation of a pull system in a SME company producing polymeric components for the automotive industry. The production system of the company was based on the push paradigm, which creates high stock levels and high lead times. The main purpose was to develop a pull production system controlled by Kanbans in the painting line. To achieve this goal, this case study demonstrates the application of relevant lean tools, such as, VSM, SMED, Kanban System, Supermarkets and Leveling. Through the SMED’s application, it was possible to reduce the setup times in 38% and make annual earnings of approximately 83000€. The application of a Kanban System, Leveling and Supermarket enabled the WIP’s reduction between injection and painting in 56% and, also, between painting and expedition in 45%. Also, the lead time decreased and the value-added time increased. Thus, this is an exemplary case study for the implementation of a pull system and can be used both by practitioners and researchers interested in this theme.

Introduction: In order to have a good assessment of the quality of maternal and child health care, it is essential that there is up-to-date and reliable information. Objective: To evaluate the impact of the implementation of a computerized database of clinical processes in the admission, archive and medical statistics section, of Maternity hospital Irene Neto/Lubango-Angola. Methodology: A descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach to carry out a retrospective case study deliveries and newborns, records from 2014 to 2017. Final considerations: The implementation of this project may contribute to the improvement of clinical management support management of the hospital as well as facilitating access to information for research and scientific production.
