Transient analysis for two-dimensional chemo-mechanical coupled problem

Abstract In this paper, based on a diffusion and mechanical coupled continuum model, the two-dimensional chemo-mechanical coupled problem in the polar coordinates is studied under plane strain assumption. The transient analytical expressions for concentration and stresses are obtained using a displacement potential function and Airy stress function. An axisymmetric problem is considered to verify the correctness of these expressions. After that, a numerical example of a long enough and traction-free cylinder with variant concentration distribution on its cylindrical surface by angle is given, the results show that the shear stress on the cross section is generated during the process of diffusion and the axial stress increased with the increment of concentration. The in-plane stress for this traction-free cylinder will vanish at steady state when the concentration was linearly distributed.

Based on Green and Lindsay’s generalized thermoelasticity theory with two relaxation times, a two-dimensional coupled problem in electromagneto-thermoelasticity for a rotating half-space solid whose surface is subjected to a heat is studied in this paper. The normal mode analysis is used to obtain the analytical expressions for the considered variables. It can be found electromagneto-thermoelastic coupled effect in the medium, and it also can be found that rotation acts to significantly decrease the magnitude of the real part of displacement and stress and insignificantly affect the magnitude of temperature and induced magnetic field.

Analytical solutions converging rapidly at large and small values of times have been obtained for two mathematical models which describe the concentration distribution of a non reactive pollutant from a point source against the flow in a horizontal cross-section of a finite saturated shallow aquifer possessing uniform horizontal groundwater flow. Zero concentration or the conditions in which the flux across the extreme boundaries are proportional to the respective flow components are applied. The effects of flow and dispersion on concentration distribution are also discussed.

Abstract A two-dimensional Galerkin finite element model for flow and contaminant transport in variably saturated porous media is used to analyze the transport of chlorides from a sanitary landfill located in Southern Ontario. A representative cross-section is selected for the analysis. Predicted chloride concentrations are presented for the cross section at various horizon years.

To simulate echoes from the earth’s surface in the low flight mode, it is necessary to reproduce reliably the delayed reflected sounding signal of the radar in real time. For this, it is necessary to be able to calculate accurately and quickly the dependence of the distance to the object being measured from the angular position of the line of sight of the radar station. Obviously, the simplest expressions for calculating the range can be obtained for a segment or a plane. In the text of the article, analytical expressions for the calculation of range for two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases are obtained. Methods of statistical physics, vector algebra, and the theory of the radar of extended objects were used. Since the calculation of the dependence of the range of the object to the target from the angular position of the line of sight is carried out on the analytical expressions found in the paper, the result obtained is accurate, and due to the relative simplicity of the expressions obtained, the calculation does not require much time.

Abstract Using modern multiloop calculation methods, we derive the analytical expressions for the total cross sections of the processes e−γ →$$ {e}^{-}X\overline{X} $$ e − X X ¯ with X = μ, γ or e at arbitrary energies. For the first two processes our results are expressed via classical polylogarithms. The cross section of e−γ → e−e−e+ is represented as a one-fold integral of complete elliptic integral K and logarithms. Using our results, we calculate the threshold and high-energy asymptotics and compare them with available results.

AbstractIn continuous casting DC magnetic fields perpendicular to the wide faces of the mold are used to control the flow in the mold. Especially in this case, even a rough knowledge of the flow structure in the mold would be highly desirable. The contactless inductive flow tomography (CIFT) allows to reconstruct the dominating two-dimensional flow structure in a slab casting mold by applying one external magnetic field and by measuring the flow-induced magnetic fields outside the mold. For a physical model of a mold with a cross section of 140 mm×35 mm we present preliminary measurements of the flow field in the mold in the presence of a magnetic brake. In addition, we show first reconstructions of the flow field in a mold with the cross section of 400 mm×100 mm demonstrating the upward scalability of CIFT.
