Abstract Matrix method of solution is applied to determine generalized thermoelastic wave propagation in an unbounded medium due to periodically varying heat source under the influence of magnetic field. Green–Lindsay (GL) model of generalized thermoelasticity for finite wave propagation is considered along with a magnetic field for a rotating medium with uniform velocity. Basic equations are solved by eigenvalue approach method after compiling in a form of vector–matrix linear differential equation in Laplace transform domain. Finally inverting the perturbed magnetic field and other field variables by a suitable numerical method, the results are analyzed by depicting several graphs in space–time domain.

Enlightened by the Caputo fractional derivative, this study deals with a novel mathematical model of generalized thermoelasticity to investigate the transient phenomena due to the influence of magnetic field and moving heat source in a rod in the context of dual-phase lag (DPL) theory of thermoelasticity based on Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity. Both ends of the rod are fixed and heat insulated. Employing Laplace transform as a tool, the problem has been transformed into the space domain and solved analytically. Finally, solutions in the real-time domain are obtained by applying the inverse Laplace transform. Numerical calculation for temperature, displacement and stress within the rod is carried out and displayed graphically. The effect of moving heat source speed, time instance, memory-dependent derivative, magnetic-field and nonlocality on temperature, displacement and stress are studied.

AbstractIt has been shown that uncoupled surface waves of SH type can be propagated without any dispersion in an electrically conducting semi-infinite elastic medium provided a uniform magnetic field acts non-aligned to the direction of wave propagation. In general, the velocity of propagation will be slightly greater than that of plane shear waves in the medium.
