In the present research, a new and straightforward mathematical model, named augmented state-space method, is introduced to solve the heat conduction equation for a multilayered orthotropic hollow cylinder with bonding imperfection in the presence of heat source. Since such problems including heat source are inherently inhomogeneous and complex, augmented state-space method converts these inhomogeneous equations into homogeneous ones. The transient solution will be achieved by present method based on laminate approximation theory in the Laplace domain, and then the solutions obtained are retrieved into the time domain by applying the numerical Laplace transform inversion. All material properties can be considered to vary continuously within the cylinder along the radial direction with arbitrary grading pattern. Based on the proposed method, the solution of heat conduction problem can be also obtained for general boundary conditions which may be included various combinations of arbitrary temperature, flux, or convection. Due to lack of any data on the transient thermal analysis corresponding to problems with imperfect bonds in the cylindrical coordinate system (r,θ), comparison is carried out with the available results for the three-layer semi-circular annular region with perfect bonds in the literature. Finally, the influence of orthotropy and interface imperfection on the distribution of the temperature field for three-layer hollow cylinder, in which the second layer is made of orthotropic functionally graded material (FGM), will be visualized.

This paper presents an analytical study for sound radiation of functionally graded materials (FGM) plate based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity. The FGM plate is a mixture of metal and ceramic, and its material properties are assumed to have smooth and continuous variation in the thickness direction according to a power-law distribution in terms of volume fractions of the constituents. Based on the three-dimensional theory of elasticity and state space method, the governing equations with variable coefficients of the FGM plate are derived. The sound radiation of the vibration plate is calculated with Rayleigh integral. Comparisons of the present results with those of solutions in the available literature are made and good agreements are achieved. Finally, some parametric studies are carried out to investigate the sound radiation properties of FGM plates.

The thermal problem of functionally graded materials (FGM) under linear heat source is studied by a hybrid numerical method. The accuracy of the analytical method and the efficiency of the finite element method are taken into account. The volume fraction of FGM in the thickness direction can be changed by changing the gradient parameters. Based on the weighted residual method, the heat conduction equation under the third boundary condition is established. The temperature distribution of FGM under the action of linear heat source is obtained by Fourier transform. The results show that the closer to the heat source it is, the greater the influence of the heat source is and the influence of the heat source is local. The temperature change trend of the observation points is consistent with the heat source, showing a linear change. The results also show that the higher the value of gradient parameter is, the higher the temperature of location point is. The temperature distribution of observation points is positively correlated with gradient parameter. When the gradient parameter value exceeds a certain value, it has a little effect on the temperature change in the model and the heat conduction in the model tends to be pure metal heat conduction, the optimal gradient parameters combined the thermal insulation property of ceramics and the high strength toughness of metals are obtained.
