This paper describes a new design that improves several aspects of the mechanically adjustable compliance and controllable equilibrium position actuator (MACCEPA). The proposed design avoids premature wear and attachment issues found in the cable transmission used in previous MACCEPA designs and allows the use of high-performance compact compression springs. The mechanical configuration of the actuator provides an adjustable stiffness with a nonlinear stiffening output torque. The output position of the actuator and its global stiffness are independent from each other. In this work, we provide a mathematical description of the actuation principle along with an experimental verification of its performance in a powered ankle–foot prosthesis. This work is part of the CYBERLEGs project funded by the European Commissions 7th Framework Programme.

Paper presents some results of long-term research of a new optimized subtle precast construction system based on high performance silicate composites. The system is particularly aimed for building construction in passive or zero-energy standard. Subtle structural elements from high performance concrete (HPC) can be integrated into building envelope of energy efficient buildings with significant reduction of envelope structure and avoiding risk of thermal bridges. Significant advantages of subtle elements are material and energy savings during production, transport, manipulation and construction on building site.Paper presents experimental verification of connection between columns and beams ensured by Peikko ́s PCs corbels. Moreover, production of two prototypes of high performance fibre reinforced columns over two floors is presented. Prototypes were casted in ŽPSV a.s. plant, Litice nad Orlicí in June 2014. Complex LCA analysis of three various reinforced concrete columns was performed. Analysis covers construction life phase. Consequently, environmental impacts of assessed variants were compared and evaluated. Results show that it is possible to reduce some impacts on the environment from 16 up to 65% in comparison with common solution of reinforced concrete columns due to the utilization of excellent mechanical properties of high performance concrete that enables the design of subtle structural elements.

This article deals with the test of selected adhesives for glued connection of high performance concrete and steel plates with various surface treatments. Results of this experiment can be used as a basis for the possible anchoring of concrete facade elements to the steel grate, the possible bonding of steel anchors on the surface of concrete facade elements. High performance concrete is a concrete that exceeds the compressive strength 100 MPa after 28 days. The second adherent is the uncoated steel and the steel with zinc coating as a second variant. Samples were tested in two different ways. The first experiment verified the single tensile strength of bond connection. The second test verified the shear strength, which is very important for connection designing.

In order to meet the working requirements of high performance and low cost for a photovoltaic (PV) aircraft driven by switched reluctance motors (SRMs), a multiport driving topology (MDT) is proposed. The converter is composed of an asymmetric half-bridge and a multiport power source circuit. Three driving and two charging modes can be realized through simple control of the switches. The output torque and the efficiency of the system are improved, because the excitation and demagnetization processes are accelerated by increasing the commutation voltage. The battery pack can be self-charged when the system is running, and PV panels can be used to charge the battery pack to reduce energy consumption when the system is stationary. The simulation analysis and the experimental verification on an 8/6 SRM confirm the effectiveness of the MFT proposed in this paper.

The article was focused on experimental verification of the identification of thermal characteristics of high-performance cementitious composites at elevated temperatures. The purpose of the research was to verify the properties, and consequently the suitability of these special cement composites for the production of a heat storage device for the long-term accumulation of thermal energy. The theoretical prerequisites for the identification of thermal characteristics and the practical procedure of experimental verification of the characteristics were presented. A modified procedure for the determination of temperature conductivity α by the hot wire method was suggested. Subsequently, the experimental verification and the results of the measured thermal characteristics were listed – and the temperature conductivity α, the thermal conductivity λ[w/m·K], the volumetric heat capacity and the specific heat capacity c[J/kg·K] by the modified method were determined.
