A Novel Deployable Hexahedron Mobile Mechanism Constructed by Only Prismatic Joints

This paper proposes a novel deployable hexahedron mobile mechanism that is rigidly linked by only prismatic joints. The mechanism that is a completely symmetrical structure can always keep the walking capability when any of its six faces of the hexahedron touches the ground. It can roll at any stable state. The configuration constructed by only prismatic joints makes it expand and contract as a deployable structure. In this paper, a method for constructing a deployable hexahedron mobile mechanism is proposed. The stability analysis and dynamic simulation of the walking and rolling are carried out. The necessary condition of tipping motion and the speed analysis of two different rolling gaits are studied in details. A binary control strategy is adopted to simplify the complexity of the control system. A pneumatic cylinder is chosen to be the binary actuator. A prototype composed of 180 pneumatic cylinders was fabricated. The validity of the walking and tipping functions are verified by the experimental results.

Abstract Recently, transformable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become a subject of great interest in the field of flying systems, due to their maneuverability, agility and morphological capacities. They can be used for specific missions and in more congested spaces. Moreover, this novel class of UAVs is considered as a viable solution for providing flying robots with specific and versatile functionalities. In this paper, we propose (i) a new design of a transformable quadrotor with (ii) generic modeling and (iii) adaptive control strategy. The proposed UAV is able to change its flight configuration by rotating its four arms independently around a central body, thanks to its adaptive geometry. To simplify and lighten the prototype, a simple mechanism with a light mechanical structure is proposed. Since the Center of Gravity (CoG) of the UAV moves according to the desired morphology of the system, a variation of the inertia and the allocation matrix occurs instantly. These dynamics parameters play an important role in the system control and its stability, representing a key difference compared with the classic quadrotor. Thus, a new generic model is developed, taking into account all these variations together with aerodynamic effects. To validate this model and ensure the stability of the designed UAV, an adaptive backstepping control strategy based on the change in the flight configuration is applied. MATLAB simulations are provided to evaluate and illustrate the performance and efficiency of the proposed controller. Finally, some experimental tests are presented.

This paper presents an energetically derived control methodology to specify and regulate the oscillatory motion of a pneumatic hopping robot. An ideal lossless pneumatic actuation system with an inertia is shown to represent an oscillator with a stiffness, and hence frequency, related to the equilibrium pressures in the actuator. Following from an analysis of the conservative energy storage elements in the system, a control methodology is derived to sustain a specified frequency of oscillation in the presence of energy dissipation. The basic control strategy is to control the pressure in the upper chamber of the pneumatic cylinder to specify the contact time of the piston, while controlling the total conservative energy stored in the system to specify the flight time and corresponding flight height of the cylinder. The control strategy takes advantage of the natural passive dynamics of the upper chamber to provide much of the required actuation forces and natural stiffness, while the remaining forces needed to overcome the energy dissipation present in a nonideal system with losses are provided by a nonlinear control law for the charging and discharging of the lower chamber of the cylinder. Efficient hopping motion, relative to a traditional nonconservative actuator, is achieved by allowing the energy storing capability of a pneumatic actuator to store and return energy to the system at a controlled specifiable frequency. The control methodology is demonstrated through simulation and experimental results to provide accurate and repeatable hopping motion for pneumatically actuated robots in the presence of dissipative forces.

The stability control analyzed by us, in this show, is based on our results in the domain of dynamical systems that depend of parameters. Any dynamical system can be considered as dynamical system that depends of parameters, without numerical particularization of them. All concrete dynamical systems, meted in the specialized literature, underline the property of separation between the stable and unstable zones, in sense of Liapunov, for two free parameters. This property can be also seen for one or more free parameters. Some mathematical conditions of separation between stable and unstable zones for linear dynamical systems are identified by us. For nonlinear systems, the conditions of separation may be identified using the linear system of first approximation attached to nonlinear system. A necessary condition of separation between stable and unstable zones, identified by us, is the sufficient order of differentiability or conditions of continuity for the functions that define the dynamical system. The property of stability zones separation can be used in defining the strategy of stability assurance and optimizing of the parameters, in the manner developed in the paper. The cases of dynamical systems that assure the separations of the stable and unstable zones, in your evolution, and permit the stability control, are analyzed in the paper.

In paper I a theory of functional organization in terms of functional interactions was proposed for a formal biological system (FBS). A functional interaction was defined as the product emitted by a structural unit, i.e. an assembly of molecules, cells, tissues or organs, which acts on another. We have shown that a self-association hypothesis could be an explanation for the source of these functional interactions because it is consistent with increased stability of the system after association. The construction of the set of interactions provides the topology of the biological system, called (O-FBS), in contrast to the (D-FBS) which describes the dynamics of the processes associated with the functional interactions. In this paper, an optimum principle is established, due to the non-symmetry of functional interactions, which could explain the stability of an FBS, and a criterion of evolution for the hierarchical topological organization of a FBS during development is deduced from that principle. The combinatorics of the (O-FBS) leads to the topological stability of the related graph. It is shown that this problem can be expressed as the re-distribution of sources and sinks, when one of them is suppressed, given the constraint of the invariance of the physiological function. Such an optimum principle could be called a principle of increase in functional order by hierarchy’. The first step is the formulation of a ‘potential’ for the functional organization, which describes the ability of the system to combine functional interactions, such that the principle of vital coherence (paper I) is satisfied. This function measures the number of potential functional interactions. The second step is to discover the maximum of this function. Biological systems in such a state of maximum organization are shown to satisfy particular dynamics, which can be experimentally verified: either the number of sinks decreases, or this number increases, in a monotonic way. The class of systems considered here is assumed to satisfy such an extremum hypothesis. The third step is a study of the variation of the degree of organization (paper I), i.e. the number of structural units when the biological system is growing. We establish an optimum principle for a new function called ‘orgatropy’. By adding a criterion of specialization to the system we show the emergence of a level of organization with a re-organization of the system. A ‘hierarchization operator’ is defined, which leads to the fourth step of this theory, i.e. the conditions of the variation in time of the (o-fbs) sub-system, as described by a ‘functional order’ mathematical function. It is shown that this function is a Lyapounov function, and drives the system towards a stable state with maximum specialization. Two consequences of the theory are studied: (i) the monotonic phases which are observed during development of the nervous system, and (ii) the similarities and differences observed between physical systems and biological systems.

The quality of the loan portfolio in Albanian banking system is facing many obstacles during the last decade. In this paper we look at possible determinants of assets quality. During the recent financial crisis commercial banks were confronted with deteriorating asset quality that threatened not only the banking industry, but also the stability of the entire financial system. This study aims to examine the correlation between non-performing loans and the macroeconomic determinants in Albania during the last decade. NPLs are considered to be of a high importance as they represent the high risk exposure of banking system. A solid bank with healthy assets increases the market efficiency. Our approach is based on a panel data regression analysis technique from 2005-2015. Within this methodology this study finds robust evidence on the existing relationship between lending interest rate, real GDP growth and NPLs. We expect to find a negative relationship between lending interest rate and asset quality. Further we assume an inverse relationship between GDP growth and non-performing loans, suggesting that NPLs decrease if the economy is growing. Furthermore this study proposes a solution platform, which looks deeper into the possibility of creating a secondary active market for troubled loans, restructuring the banking system or implementing the Podgorica model. This research paper opens a new lieu of discussion in terms of academic debates and decision-making policies.

High-speed railway "Moscow-Kazan" by the draft crosses the Volga (Kuibyshev reservoir) in Chuvashia region 500 m below the village of New Kushnikovo. The crossing plot is a right-bank landslide slope with a stepped surface. Its height is 80 m; the slope steepness -15-16o. The authors should assess the risk of landslides and recommend anti-landslide measures to ensure the safety of the future bridge. For this landslide factors have been analyzed, slope stability assessment has been performed and recommendations have been suggested. The role of the following factors have been analyzed: 1) hydrologic - erosion and abrasion reservoir and runoff role; 2) lithologyc (the presence of Urzhum and Northern Dvina horizons of plastically deformable rocks, displacement areas); 3) hydrogeological (the role of perched, ground and interstratal water); 4) geomorphological (presence of the elemental composition of sliding systems and their structure in the relief); 5) exogeodynamic (cycles and stages of landslide systems development, mechanisms and relationship between landslide tiers of different generations and blocks contained in tiers). As a result 6-7 computational models at each of the three engineering-geological sections were made. The stability was evaluated by the method “of the leaning slope”. It is proved that the slope is in a very stable state and requires the following measures: 1) unloading (truncation) of active heads blocks of landslide tiers) and the edge of the plateau, 2) regulation of the surface and groundwater flow, 3) concrete dam, if necessary.

This article presents a control strategy that enables both islanded and grid-tied operations of a three-phase inverter in distributed generation. This distributed generation (DG) is based on a dramatically evolved direct current (DC) source. A unified control strategy is introduced to operate the interface in either the isolated or grid-connected modes. The proposed control system is based on the instantaneous tracking of the active power flow in order to achieve current control in the grid-connected mode and retain the stability of the frequency using phase-locked loop (PLL) circuits at the point of common coupling (PCC), in addition to managing the reactive power supplied to the grid. On the other side, the proposed control system is also based on the instantaneous tracking of the voltage to achieve the voltage control in the standalone mode and retain the stability of the frequency by using another circuit including a special equation (wt = 2πft, f = 50 Hz). This utilization provides the ability to obtain voltage stability across the critical load. One benefit of the proposed control strategy is that the design of the controller remains unconverted for other operating conditions. The simulation results are added to evaluate the performance of the proposed control technology using a different method; the first method used basic proportional integration (PI) controllers, and the second method used adaptive proportional integration (PI) controllers, i.e., an Artificial Neural Network (ANN).

Based on the special geological conditions of a tunnel in Qingyuan section of Huizhou-Zhanzhou Expressway, FLAC3d numerical simulation software is used to simulate the rheological properties and instability of surrounding rock in large-section fully weathered sandstone section, and the stability and loss of surrounding rock are analyzed. The deformation of the dome and the face at steady state is analyzed. It is found that: 1) when the surrounding rock is in a stable state, the deformation curve of the dome is smooth. When the surrounding rock of the face is unstable, the front of the face appears ahead. Deformation should be first strengthened on the surrounding rock in front of the face. 2) The arched foot is an important part of the instability of the surrounding rock. In order to prevent the expansion of the collapsed part, the arched part should be reinforced. 3) In order to obtain the limit state of surrounding rock stability, the strength of surrounding rock is reduced, and the strength reduction coefficient corresponding to the displacement sudden point is taken as the safety factor of rock stability around the hole, and the stability safety coefficients of surrounding rock of each construction step are greater than 1.2. 4) The dynamic standard values of deformation control in the whole construction stage are obtained by analyzing the deformation curves of each data monitoring point with time in the corresponding time period of each construction step.

The electron structure of Pb(Zr1/2Ti1/2)O3(PZT), Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3(PZN) and Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3 (PMS) systems was calculated by the SCF-DV-Xα calculation method. The effects of ABO3-type perovskite and pyrochlore ceramic electron structure on their piezoelectricity were also studied. The results showed that the ferroelectric phase is more stable than paraelectric phase and the necessary condition of stable existing ferroelectric is the mixed orbit of O2p orbit and the out layer d orbit of B-site atom. The stability of ferroelectricity can be indicated by the strength of mixed orbit. When (Zr, Ti) was substituted by Mn1/3Sb2/3, Zn1/3Nb2/3, if it could form tetragonal perovskite structure, the total system energy would reduce and the mixed orbit will enhance, which improves the ferroelectricity of PZT system. However, if it forms a cubic pyrochlore structure, the ferroelectricity would lose because the covalent bond strength of B-O (axial direction) and B-O (vertical axial direction) is different obviously, which lead to the system structure become unstable.
