This paper studies the stability and transient response of electrostatically excited microbeam interacting with bounded compressible fluid. At first, employing Fourier-Bessel series, the related eigenvalue problem of the coupled system is solved. Investigating the change in the free vibration properties of the system, a parametric study is done, accounting for changing physical properties and geometric dimensions of the bounded fluid. Then, considering the step response of the coupled system, pull-in time and voltage and also attraction zones of the microbeam are derived. It is shown that, beside the electrical property of the contained fluid, its inertial property could also change the transient response significantly. Fluid added mass by increasing the period of the free vibration response in stable condition also changes the pull-in time. In addition, it is found that the attraction zones of stable fixed points vary for different contained fluids that could change the sensitivity of the microbeam to uncertainty in the initial condition.

The effect of tangential torque on the stability of a rotor supported by various hydrodynamic journal bearings is investigated by the free vibration and transient response analyses. It is shown that the stability region of the rotational speed is bounded by both upper and lower rotational speeds. The parametric study of this investigation has been carried out in terms of the dimensionless bearing characteristics, shaft flexibility and tangential torque. It is shown that the use of hydrodynamic journal bearing can eliminate the instability due to tangential torque except for the case of light bearing loads and high shaft flexibilities.

A wedge clutch with unique features of self-reinforcement and small actuation force was designed. Its self-reinforcement feature, associated with different factors such as the wedge angle and friction coefficient, brings different dynamics and unstable problem with improper parameters. To analyze this system, a complete mathematical model of the actuation system is built, which includes the DC motor, the wedge mechanism, and the actuated clutch pack. By considering several nonlinear factors, such as the slip-stick friction and the contact or not of the clutch plates, the system is piecewise linear. Through the stability analysis of the linearized system in clutch slipping phase, the stable condition of the designed parameters is obtained asα>arctan⁡(μc). The mathematical model of the actuation system is validated by prototype testing. And with the validated model, the system dynamics in both stable and unstable conditions is investigated and discussed in engineering side.

The quality of the loan portfolio in Albanian banking system is facing many obstacles during the last decade. In this paper we look at possible determinants of assets quality. During the recent financial crisis commercial banks were confronted with deteriorating asset quality that threatened not only the banking industry, but also the stability of the entire financial system. This study aims to examine the correlation between non-performing loans and the macroeconomic determinants in Albania during the last decade. NPLs are considered to be of a high importance as they represent the high risk exposure of banking system. A solid bank with healthy assets increases the market efficiency. Our approach is based on a panel data regression analysis technique from 2005-2015. Within this methodology this study finds robust evidence on the existing relationship between lending interest rate, real GDP growth and NPLs. We expect to find a negative relationship between lending interest rate and asset quality. Further we assume an inverse relationship between GDP growth and non-performing loans, suggesting that NPLs decrease if the economy is growing. Furthermore this study proposes a solution platform, which looks deeper into the possibility of creating a secondary active market for troubled loans, restructuring the banking system or implementing the Podgorica model. This research paper opens a new lieu of discussion in terms of academic debates and decision-making policies.

Abstract Recently, transformable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become a subject of great interest in the field of flying systems, due to their maneuverability, agility and morphological capacities. They can be used for specific missions and in more congested spaces. Moreover, this novel class of UAVs is considered as a viable solution for providing flying robots with specific and versatile functionalities. In this paper, we propose (i) a new design of a transformable quadrotor with (ii) generic modeling and (iii) adaptive control strategy. The proposed UAV is able to change its flight configuration by rotating its four arms independently around a central body, thanks to its adaptive geometry. To simplify and lighten the prototype, a simple mechanism with a light mechanical structure is proposed. Since the Center of Gravity (CoG) of the UAV moves according to the desired morphology of the system, a variation of the inertia and the allocation matrix occurs instantly. These dynamics parameters play an important role in the system control and its stability, representing a key difference compared with the classic quadrotor. Thus, a new generic model is developed, taking into account all these variations together with aerodynamic effects. To validate this model and ensure the stability of the designed UAV, an adaptive backstepping control strategy based on the change in the flight configuration is applied. MATLAB simulations are provided to evaluate and illustrate the performance and efficiency of the proposed controller. Finally, some experimental tests are presented.

This paper presents a wavelet-based method of identification modal parameter and damage detection in a free vibration response. An algorithm for modal parameter identification and damage detection is purposed and complex Morlet wavelet is chosen as an analysis wavelet function. This paper only focuses on identification of natural frequencies of the structural system. The method utilizes both undamaged and damage experiment data of free vibration response of the truss structure system. Wavelet scalogram is utilizes for damage detection. The change of energy components for undamaged and damage structure is investigated from the plot of wavelet scalogram which corresponded to the detection of damage.

The management of the Buruli ulcer (BU) in Africa is often accompanied by limited resources, delays in treatment, and macilent capacity in medical facilities. These challenges limit the number of infected individuals that access medical facilities. While most of the mathematical models with treatment assume a treatment function proportional to the number of infected individuals, in settings with such limitations, this assumption may not be valid. To capture these challenges, a mathematical model of the Buruli ulcer with a saturated treatment function is developed and studied. The model is a coupled system of two submodels for the human population and the environment. We examine the stability of the submodels and carry out numerical simulations. The model analysis is carried out in terms of the reproduction number of the submodel of environmental dynamics. The dynamics of the human population submodel, are found to occur at the steady states of the submodel of environmental dynamics. Sensitivity analysis is carried out on the model parameters and it is observed that the BU epidemic is driven by the dynamics of the environment. The model suggests that more effort should be focused on environmental management. The paper is concluded by discussing the public implications of the results.

In this paper, a new car-following model is proposed by considering the drivers’ aggressive characteristics. The stable condition and the modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation are obtained by the linear stability analysis and nonlinear analysis, which show that the drivers’ aggressive characteristics can improve the stability of traffic flow. Furthermore, the numerical results show that the drivers’ aggressive characteristics increase the stable region of traffic flow and can reproduce the evolution and propagation of small perturbation.

In order to investigate self-excited vibration mechanism of wheel-rail lateral contact system, a two DOF elasticity position wheelset lateral vibration model is established which considers the dry friction; the mechanism of the wheelset lateral self-excited vibration is investigated from the energy point of view. It shows that: the bifurcation diagram of this wheel-rail lateral contact system has a supercritical Hopf bifurcation. The energy of self-excited vibration derives from a part of traction energy; the creep rate in the wheel-rail system act as a feedback mechanism in the wheelset lateral self-excited vibration system. The stability of the wheelset self-excited vibration system depends mainly on the total energy removed from and imported into the system.
