Setup of an Experimental Facility for the Investigation of Wet Compression on a Multistage Compressor

At present, inlet fogging and wet compression are two of the most widely used approaches to enhance gas turbine performance, especially during hot seasons. However, potentially negative effects of these practices on long-term operational integrity of gas turbines should be evaluated carefully; in particular, wet compression may lead to the erosion of first compressor stages due to the impact of water droplets within the flow at compressor intake. This issue is still controversial in technical literature since only limited historical field operating data and information are available. Therefore, a test facility was specifically set up in the laboratories of the University of Ferrara, to evaluate the effects of wet compression on a small-size compressor. This paper presents the experimental facility developed for wet compression investigation and some preliminary results.

The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of seven factors causing academic stress on students of University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University: Lack of leisure time, Academic performance, Fear of failure, Academic overload, Finances, Competition between students, Relationships with university faculty. Based on the results of a practical survey of 185 students who are attending any courses at the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, the study assesses the impact of stress factors on students. The thesis focuses on clarifying the concept of "stress" and the stress level of students, while pointing out its negative effects on students. This study includes two cross-sectional questionnaire surveys. The first survey uses a set of 16 questions to assess students’ perceptions and attitudes based on an instrument to measure academic stress - Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA). The second survey aims to test internal consistency, the robustness of the previously established 7-factor structure. Henceforth, the model was brought back and used qualitatively, combined with Cronbach’s Alpha measurement test and EFA discovery factor analysis. This study was conducted from October 2019 to December 2019. From these practical analyzes, several proposals were made for the society, the school and the students themselves.

Solid particle ingestion is one of the principal degradation mechanisms in the compressor and turbine sections of gas turbines. In particular, in industrial applications, the micro-particles not captured by the air filtration system can cause deposits on blades and, consequently, can result in a decrease in compressor performance. It is of great interest to the industry to determine which zones of the compressor blades are impacted by these small particles. However, this information often refers to single stage analysis. This paper presents three-dimensional numerical simulations of the micro-particle ingestion (0.15 μm – 1.50 μm) in a multistage (i.e. eight stage) subsonic axial compressor, carried out by means of a commercial CFD code. Particle trajectory simulations use a stochastic Lagrangian tracking method that solves the equations of motion separately from the continuous phase. The effects of humidity, or more generally, the effects of a third substance at the particle/surface interface (which is considered one of the major promoters of fouling) is then studied. The behavior of wet and oiled particles, in addition to the usual dry particles, is taken into consideration. In the dry case, the particle deposition is established only by using the sticking probability. This quantity links the kinematic characteristics of particle impact on the blade with the fouling phenomenon. In the other two cases, the effect of the presence of a third substance at the particle/surface interface is considered by means of an energy-based model. Moreover, the influence of the tangential impact velocity on particle deposition is analyzed. Introducing the effect of a third substance, such as humidity or oil, the phenomenon of fouling concerns the same areas of the multistage compressor. The most significant results are obtained by combining the effect of the third substance with the effect of the tangential component of the impact velocity of the particles. The deposition trends obtained with these conditions are comparable with those reported in literature, highlighting how the deposits are mainly concentrated in the early stages of a multistage compressor. Particular fluid dynamic phenomena, such as corner separations and clearance vortices, strongly influence the location of particle deposits.

This study analyzes the impact of watching television sports channels on the promotion of sports activities among the students of the University of Sargodha. The aim of the study is to explore the impact of sports channels on students. Previous researches are used to set up the concepts of the present study. In this research, a survey technique is used to collect the data. The population of the study consists of male and female students of the University of Sargodha. In this research, the Stratified and Purposive sampling technique is used, through which specification characteristics of the respondent's demographics. The study explores the impact of sports channels in the view of Uses and Gratification Theory. The data for this study is collected through the use of a well-designed questionnaire. Chi-square test and other statistical tests like ANOVA and t-Test are applied to test the hypothesis. The finding shows that more the exposure to TV sports channels more the information level of students of the University of Sargodha.

Abstract Beetroot is a vegetable that accumulate heavy metals. This is largely dependent on the cultivar, methods and growing conditions. The aim of the study was to determine the composition of elements in the roots of 15 cultivars of red beet. The analysis assessed the content of macroelements (Na, P) and heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Mn, Zn). Most soils of the Lesser Poland region are exposed to the impact of industrial and transportation pollution. The soils of this region are characterized by strong acidification as well as natural or increased heavy metal content. The experiment was set up at the experimental field of the Department of Vegetable and Medicinal Plants of the University of Agriculture in Krakow, in 2009-2010. On the basis of the performed analysis, ‘Opolski’ was chosen as the cultivar that was characterized by a high content of macroelements and lower ability to accumulate heavy metals than the other tested cultivars. The lowest ability to accumulate heavy metals (Cd and Cr) was found in the cases of cultivars with cylindrical root shapes, such as Rywal or Opolski. One can indicate such cultivars as Astar F1 or Nabab F1 as cultivars recommended for cultivation in ecologically threatened areas.

The Classics in Communities project (http://classicsincommunities.org/) is a partnership between members of the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and the Iris Project. It was set up in response to the primary curriculum reforms which were implemented in England from September 2014. In the Key Stage 2 (KS2) Languages curriculum policy, for the first time, Classical Greek and Latin can be chosen for study by pupils aged 6-11 in place of a modern language. The project particularly targets schools where Classical languages have not previously featured on the curriculum. It has twin aims: to equip teachers in primary schools with the skills and knowledge necessary to teach these languages; and to conduct parallel research to determine the impact of Classical language learning on children's cognitive development.

Carbon capture is getting increased attention recently due to the fact that it seems to be the only answer to decrease emissions. Gas turbines exhaust have 3–5 % concentration of CO2 which is very low to be captured by an amine carbon capture plant effectively. The amine based plants are most effective at around 10 – 15% CO2 in the flue gas. In order to increase the concentration of CO2 in the exhaust of the gas turbine, part of the exhaust gas needs to be recycled back to the air inlet. On reaching the concentration of CO2 around 10% it can be fed to the amine capture plant for effective carbon capture. A 100 kWe (plus 150 kW hot water) CHP gas turbine Turbec T100 is installed at the Low Carbon Combustion Centre of the University of Sheffield. The turbine set up will be modified to make it CO2 capture ready. The exhaust gases obtained will be piped to amine capture plant for testing capture efficiency. Preliminary calculations have been done and presented in this paper. The thermodynamic properties of CO2 are different from nitrogen and will have an effect on compressor, combustor and turbine performance. Preliminary calculations of recycle ratios and other performance based parameters have been presented in this paper. This paper also covers the aspects of turbine set up machinery which needs to be modified and what kind of modifications may be needed.

Today, colleges and universities recognize that, to employ and retain good students and highest level of academic  staffing for the best student comprehension, the provision of contemporary and highly equipped instructional facilities is essential. This paper discusses the impact of the indoor environmental quality; the instructional technology; the physical set up of the university classroom; and the emerging teaching/learning pedagogies on students' performance. It is established that, these four factors have a significant effects on student learning outcome. The study also presents a comprehensive and critical review of literature on the nature of the university classroom for collaboraive and interactive learning, with the aim of providing an enabling environment of higher learning in the universities. The research suggests that improving the three influential components i.e. the indoor environmental quality, the instructional technology and the physical set up will help in enhancing student performance and productivity. The study concluded by establishing a systematic framework model for the implementation of the collaboraive and interactive learning in the university classroom.

The Library Management Group of The University Of Huddersfield set up a pilot study to examine altemative procedures for classifying and cataloguing library material in the Health sciences. The study tested the impact of using classification and subject index terms in bibliographic records for titles in the health subject area. The work of the group concentrated on two areas: -establishing a benchmark for throughput in Technical Services in terms of speed, cost and availability of externally supplied class numbers -analysis of differences in classification numbers and subject indexing terms between those human assigned and system assigned. Samples of data were analysed using SPSS software; a fuzzy matching process was undertaken for the subject string analysis. The results showed considerable savings to be made in terms of both speed and cost. lt was instrumental in the decision to change the existing method of acquiring classification numbers.The hit rate for records and the impact on the shelf arrangement were at an acceptable level. The study produced reliable information to provide a benchmark for future developments (for exarnple outsourcing shelf ready books) and performance indicators.

ABSTRACTIn recent years educational models have been changed in order to establish teaching-learning processes to set up profiles and professionalize the academic education actively. A didactic strategy is problem based learning (PBL). The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of PBL on university students’ through social meaning that it represent themselves. Method: it was used a mixed methodology. The analysis unit was social meaning about PBL, which was analyzed through the natural semantic network technique. The sample was composed by 93 psychology students of the University of Colima in three different grades (3, 5 and 7). The test used was an open question questionnaire type. The results obtained in the SAM group showed that the main defining words with highest social representativeness regarding to PBL are: research, learning, team, analysis and debate.RESUMENEn años recientes se han modificado los modelos educativos con el fin de establecer procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje que instauren perfiles y profesionalicen la formación universitaria de manera activa. Una estrategia didáctica es el aprendizaje basado en problemas (ABP). El objetivo de la presente investigación es analizar el impacto que tiene el ABP en los estudiantes universitarios a través del significado social que representa para los mismos. Se empleó una metodología mixta. La unidad de análisis fue el significado social del ABP, el cual se estudió a través de la técnica red semántica natural. La muestra estuvo conformada por 93 estudiantes de tres diferentes semestres (3, 5 y 7) de la Licenciatura en Psicología, Universidad de Colima. El instrumento utilizado fue un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas. Los resultados obtenidos en el conjunto SAM, muestran que las principales palabras definidoras con mayor representatividad respecto al ABP son: investigación, aprendizaje, equipo, análisis y debate. Contacto principal: [email protected]
