Helicopter Landing Ship: Undercarriage Strength and the Role of the Human Factor

We address, using probabilistic modeling and the extreme-value-distribution technique, the helicopter undercarriage strength in a helicopter-landing-ship situation. Our analysis contains an attempt to quantify, on the probabilistic basis, the role of the human factor in the situation in question. This factor is important from the standpoint of the operation time that affects the likelihood of safe landing during the lull period in the sea condition. The operation time includes (1) the time required for the officer-on-ship-board and the helicopter pilot to make their go-ahead decisions and (2) the time of actual landing. It is assumed, for the sake of simplicity, that both these times could be approximated by Rayleigh’s law, while the lull duration follows the normal law with a high enough ratio of the mean value to the standard deviation. Safe landing could be expected if the probability that it occurs during the lull time is sufficiently high. The probability that the helicopter undercarriage strength is not compromised can be evaluated as a product of the probability that landing indeed occurs during the lull time and the probability that the relative velocity of the helicopter undercarriage with respect to the ship’s deck at the moment of encounter does not exceed the allowable level. This level is supposed to be determined for the helicopter-landing-ground situation. The developed model can be used when developing specifications for the undercarriage strength, as well as guidelines for personnel training. Particularly, the model can be of help when establishing the times to be met by the two humans involved to make their go-ahead decisions for landing and to actually land the helicopter. Plenty of additional risk analyses (associated with the need to quantify various underlying uncertainties) and human psychology related efforts will be needed, of course, to make such guidelines practical.

Based on the probabilistic approach and using the extreme value distribution (EVD) technique, we address the helicopter undercarriage strength in a helicopter-landing-ship (HLS) situation. Our analysis contains an attempt to quantify, also on the probabilistic basis, the role of the human factor in the situation in question. This factor is important from the standpoint of the operation time and, hence, from the standpoint of the likelihood of safe landing during the lull period in the sea condition. The operation time includes the time required for the officer-on-ship-board and the helicopter pilot to come up with their go-ahead decisions, and the time of actual landing. It is assumed, for the sake of simplicity, that both these times could be approximated by Rayleigh’s law, while the lull duration follows the normal law. Safe landing can be expected if the probability that it takes place during the lull time is sufficiently high. The probability that the helicopter undercarriage strength is not compromised can be evaluated as the product of the probability that landing occurs during the lull time and the probability that the relative velocity of the helicopter with respect the ship’s deck at the moment of the encounter of the undercarriage with the deck does not exceed the allowable level. The developed model can be used when establishing the requirements for the undercarriage strength, as well as when developing guidelines for personnel training. Particularly, it can be employed for establishing the times that need to be met by the two humans involved to make their decisions for landing and to actually land the helicopter in a timely fashion. It goes without saying that plenty of additional risk analyses (associated with the need to quantify various underlying uncertainties) and human psychology related effort will be needed to make such guidelines practical.

Hisab and rukyat are two methods used in the determination of the Muslim worship time, such as Ramadan fast, five times prayer, Eid al-Adha sacrifice, and also for the benefit of human in general. observation of the sky made by humans is an activity that is closely related to the needs of man himself. History summarizes the journey of Falak science treasures in the early determination of the kamariyah months from the discovery of classical methods to development in the modern era. The initial method used was the role of both eyes as the human optic of the moment to see the moon on the 29th of the lunar month. And as the times progressed to the method of rukyatul hilal by combining the modern product of the telescope. The position of reckoning that one side of the rukyah can not be separated in its development. Known at the time of the dinas umayah development of astronomy began to be shaken, that is with the translation of the prime work of books of astronomy from Greek to Arabic. Miftah an-nujum that is adopted into hermes is the first Muslim heart book. And to the works of the modern era that colored many of rukyat itself.Keyword : Hisab and rukyat, the beginning of the month kamariyah, history

SummaryHuman factor X was purified by several different procedures yielding products which had varying amounts of factor VII and factor IX. Treatment with CHC13 during the fractionation of the factor X removed 95% of the factor VII and factor IX activity and the resulting factor X activated more slowly when incubated in 25% sodium citrate. Removal of residual factor VII by DEAE cellulose chromatography yielded a factor X which activated still more slowly and less completely. When the factor VII, removed by chromatography, was added to the chromatographed factor X, the ability to be activated in 25% sodium citrate was restored. Confirmatory evidence for the role of factor VII in this reaction was the inhibition of the conversion of the factor X by both DFP and SBTI.

This article attempts to present a comparative study of the role of two twentieth-century English translations of the Qur'an: cAbdullah Yūsuf cAlī's The Meaning of the Glorious Qur'ān and Muḥammad Asad's The Message of the Qur'ān. No two men could have been more different in their background, social and political milieu and life experiences than Yūsuf cAlī and Asad. Yūsuf 'Alī was born and raised in British India and had a brilliant but traditional middle-class academic career. Asad traversed a vast cultural and geographical terrain: from a highly-disciplined childhood in Europe to the deserts of Arabia. Both men lived ‘intensely’ and with deep spiritual yearning. At some time in each of their lives they decided to embark upon the translation of the Qur'an. Their efforts have provided us with two incredibly rich monumental works, which both reflect their own unique approaches and the effects of the times and circumstances in which they lived. A comparative study of these two translations can provide rich insights into the exegesis and the phenomenon of human understanding of the divine text.

Pagrindiniai žodžiai: vaizduotė, įsivaizdavimas, fantazija, ego, kitybė, sąmonė.PENGUIN AND PROTEUSImagination as Otherness in meKristupas Sabolius SummaryThe question of Otherness is usually taken into account while discussing the Ego’s relation with Others as well as with the World. This article is based on the premises that the function of phantasy melts the subjectivity, revealing the perspective of intersubjectivity within it. On this purpose Sartre’s, Husserl’s and Merleau-Ponty’s researches on the function of imagination, which elucidate the image as the boundary slipping from the centre of Ego, are compared to the story of Hollywood’ movie „Fight Club“. The penguin, which appears in one of the episodes, registers the moment of egological schism, thus becoming the revelation and incarnation of phantasy. While the playful, autonomous and multiform character of imaginary is cleared out, we can ascertain, speaking in Kantian terms, that it has not a complementary or intermediary function, but, in the genesis of transcendental subject, plays the paradoxical role of „allien innerness“ or „inner alienity“. Thought remaining always beside, imagination is a catalyzer which enables crystallization of transcendental forms. Keywords: imagination, imaginary, phantasy, ego, otherness, consciousness.

The diffusion of innovations is described as a process in a number of scientific papers. At the same time, the causes of this process have not been sufficiently studied. The author’s goal is to consider the main regularities, under which the life cycle of innovations begins, and propose measures to enhance diffusion in modern conditions. As a scientific hypothesis, the author accepts the postulate about the primary role of the obolescence of attracted innovations in this process. The analysis revealed not only the economic proportions that initiate the start of innovation promotion, but also the influence on the diffusion rate of the obsolescence degree of innovations and the market share occupied by the new product. Methodological approaches have been developed to determine economic efficiency depending on the moment of technological change-over, as well as to determine the absolute and relative speed of innovation diffusion. Sociological studies were conducted to determine the state of innovation development and the time lag between obtaining information about an innovation and its practical implementation. The author presents his “Agroopyt” information system developed to disseminate knowledge in the agricultural sphere and ensure technology transfer in agriculture. Digital methods provide for significant accelerateion of the diffusion of innovations and expand its scope.

Ali Bin Abi Talib once said that children should be educated in accordance with the  development of the times. The Ali bin Abi Talib’s statement could be considered as his attention more to the development of human civilization. For that reason, there should be studies focused on the role of educational institutions in facing the challenges of the times. On this stand, the writer raises the existence of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) for being considered to have been able to survive amid the onslaught of civilization increasingly obscuring cultural identity. In addition, this study also aims to identify and discuss the role of pesantren in the modern era. This is a literature study using a descriptive and exploratory approach. It can be concluded that pesantren are non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Pesantren have permanent and distictive methods and learning models. The purpose of pesantren education is the same as Islamic education in general, instilling a sense of virtue, familiarizing themselves with courtesy, preparing for a holy, sincere and honest life entirely. Pesantren could be seen from three aspects: (a) pesantren that are seen from facilities and infrastructures, (b) pesantren that are seen from disciplines taught, and (c) pesantren that are seen from the fields of knowledge.
