In view of the steady increase in the mean pressures, the systems employed for turbo-charging diesel engines have been progressively developed. A number of methods have been applied, both to four-stroke and particularly to two-stroke engines. This paper compares the various systems with one another. Trends for future developments are outlined.

The estimation of the experimental yields of cereal crops by sampling methods is considered in the light of results of eighteen experiments which were harvested by these methods at Rothamsted and its associated centres. The harvesting results of the Crop-Weather series of experiments are also included.A preliminary discussion of the interpretation of the analysis of variance as applied to sampling results is given, and an expression is found for the loss of information arising out of sampling. The results of the discussion are applicable to all types of sampling carried out on replicated experiments.The sampling and experimental errors of all the experiments have been calculated. The variation between sampling units in the same subplot (usually between l/100th and l/200th acre) was found to be such as would arise if each metre length of row had a standard deviation (about the plot mean) of the order of 25–30 per cent. of the mean yield.

<p class="jbls-body"><span lang="EN-GB">A total of one hundred and seventy-three fertilized eggs were used for morphometry, gross and histological studies. At day 4 of incubation, the mean body weight of the helmeted guinea fowl embryo was 0.6401 ± 0.0211 g. It was at day 10 of incubation that there was an increase in the whole body weight of the embryo to be 0.8650 ± 0.676 g. The whole brain weight indicated relative increased at day 4 as compared to that of the whole body weight. Graphically, there were steady increase in the body, brain and optic lobe weights. Histologically, cells and neurones that make up the optic lobe is probably as a result of the migration of immature cells from the ventricular neuroepithelium. </span></p>

Purpose Cancer drug prices at launch have increased in recent years. It is unclear how individual drug prices change over time after launch and what market determinants influence these changes. We measured the price trajectories of a cohort of cancer drugs after their launch into the US market and assessed the influence of market structure on price changes. Methods We studied the changes in mean monthly costs for a cohort of 24 patented, injectable anticancer drugs that were approved by the US Food and Drug Administration between 1996 and 2012. To account for discounts and rebates, we used the average sales prices published by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Costs were adjusted to US general and health-related inflation rates. For each drug, we calculated the cumulative and annual drug cost changes. We then used a multivariable regression model to evaluate the association between market and cost changes over time. Results With a mean follow-up period of 8 years, the mean percent change in cost for all drugs was +25% (range, −14% to +96%). After adjusting for inflation, the mean cost change was +18% (range, −16% to +59%). Rituximab and trastuzumab followed a similar pattern in cost increases over time, and the inflation-adjusted monthly costs rose since approval by 49% and 44%, respectively. New supplemental US Food and Drug Administration approvals, new off-label indications, and new competitors did not influence the annual cost change rates. Conclusion Anticancer drug costs may change substantially after launch. Regardless of competition or supplemental indications, there is a steady increase in costs of patented anticancer agents over time. New regulations may be needed to prevent additional increases in drug costs after launch.

Abstract Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects mainly young people. In the last 50 years, a steady increase of the T1D incidence in the young is reported worldwide, with an average 4 % increase annually. In addition, the mean age at the diagnosis is decreasing. Studies show that good metabolic control is important not only for delaying the chronic complications of diabetes but also for improving the quality of life of patients and their families. Continuous education, together with modern technology, is crucial in achieving these goals. Longitudinal data on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), along with the data on severe hypoglycemia and severe diabetic ketoacidosis, can describe the quality of care in a defined population. Two national reference diabetes centres taking care of children, adolescents and young adults with diabetes in Israel and Slovenia are described.

Poor nutritional status and inadequate food intake during and prior to pregnancy not only affect Women’s health but also have negative impact on growth and development of fetus.  The birth weight of an infant is a powerful predictor of growth and survival of infant and is dependent on maternal health and nutritional status, pre-pregnancy weight and general weight gain are all strongly associated with fetal growth and development. So, improving maternal nutrition prior to conception and during pregnancy are potential strategies to improve birth weight. The Present study has been carried out to discuss the circumstances under which the effect of maternal nutrition on birth weight can be observed, and to determine the specific contributors of calories and protein to birth weight. Materials and methods: The present study has been carried out at Teaching Medical College and hospital to find out correlation between various factors responsible for maternal weight gain and nutrition with birth weight of baby and to standardize diet chart for pregnant mothers in rural area. The study included 100 women who were followed up from 8 to 10 week of pregnancy till delivery. Anthropometric measurements including maternal weight, height and total weight gain in pregnancy and infant’s birth weight were recorded and all mothers were interviewed for their bio-social variables. Results: The mean birth weight is below 2.4 kg in age <19 years and in 30 years and above, it is >2.5 kg.  The mean birth weight in primipara is 2.4 kg and then it gradually increased maximum up to 2.6 kg in multipara. The mean birth weight in 2.4 kg in mothers below 145cm.Above that till 160 cm there is steady increase in birth weight up to 3.08 kg. The mean birth weight was lowest in cases where maternal weight is below 40 kg and it reached maximum 3 kg in weight group 60-69 kg. The mean birth weight is 2.4 kg in weight gain between 5-9 kg and maximum up to 3 kg in weight gain between 15-19 kg. The mean birth weight is 3.2 kg in high socioeconomic group and 2.2 kg in low socioeconomic group. Conclusion: There is definite relation between maternal age, parity, height, pre-pregnancy weight, weight gain during pregnancy, socioeconomic status and daily dietary intake per day and birth weight of baby. So health policies should be aimed at early detection and effective management of under nutrition to reduce the burden of low birth weight babies and there is a need to focus attention on better maternal nutrition and education on birth spacing, early pregnancy and family planning.

Background The carrying angle is defined as the acute angle made by the median axis of arm and median axis of forearm in full extension and supination. This angle permits the forearms to clear the hips in swinging movements during walking and is important when carrying objects.Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the values of carrying angle in both the sexes according to the age group in relation with height and special reference to side.Methods To evaluate the elbow carrying angle in normal children between 5-15 years by a manual goniometer, measurements were performed in 532 children (Male- 335, Female- 197), with the elbow in full extension and forearm in supination. Carrying angle was measured on right and left upper limbs to find out the difference on both the limbs. Their height, ages and sexes are also recorded. Bicipital groove, biceps brachii tendon at its insertion and palmaris longus tendon at the wrist were palpated and marked as anatomical landmarks to demarcate the median axes of arm and forearm respectively.Results The mean carrying angle of male on the left limb was 7.0359O and the female was 7.8030O and the mean carrying angle of male on the right limb was 4.5509O and the female was 4.9545O. We observed the greater carrying angle in non-dominant limb than the dominant limbs. There was significant positive correlation between height of students and carrying angle left (r =0.0866, p= 0.048<0.05), negative correlation between height and carrying angle right (r= -0.082, p= 0.058 >0.05).Conclusion The present study showed that the carrying angle was greater in female than in male and was greater in non-dominant arm than in dominant arm and the carrying angle was not inversely related to the height of the person.Kathmandu Univ Med J 2013; 11(4): 315-318

1. The means and standard deviations of analytical data obtained from fifty-four samples of mixed milk (alternate a.m. and p.m.) and whey from the College herd of Dairy Shorthorns are presented in Table I. The samples were taken at intervals during the period late September 1935 to November 1936.2. While no outstanding differences in composition are evident between morning and evening samples, the time of rennet coagulation was appreciably greater with the evening's samples. Evidence is presented to show that the longer time of cold storage of these samples must be regarded as a contributory cause of this effect.3. In the discussion of the mean values, special treatment has been given to the partition of calcium and phosphorus between the four phases, soluble and insoluble, organic and inorganic. The caseinogen values are examined in the light of current theories.
