The compressional wave velocity and compressibility of a fluid-saturated aggregate of randomly stacked spherical particles of four sizes are determined. The particles may have different elastic properties so that variations in compressional wave velocity and compressibility can be determined as a function of the material properties of the particles and of the bulk moduli of the saturating fluids. Applications of the theory to problems in seismic exploration and oil production are given.
