Homogeneous Vapor Nucleation and Superheat Limits of Liquid Mixtures

Two features distinguish vapor nucleation in multicomponent liquids from the single component case. Both result from the unequal volatilities of the species. One is that the vapor phase may contain several components; the other is that nucleus formation alters the composition of the nearby liquid. These two features are incorporated into the classical theory of homogeneous nucleation to yield a general theory applicable to multicomponent liquids. The theory is applied to binary hydrocarbon mixtures by using an equation of state extrapolated into the metastable region. Superheat limits thus calculated are compared with published experimental results.

After geometry optimization, the electron spectra of indole and four azaindoles are calculated by density functional theory. Available experimental photoemission and excitation data for indole and 7-azaindole are used to compare with the theoretical values. The results for the other azaindoles are presented as predictions to help the interpretation of experimental spectra when they become available.

In this paper, we present two viscous models of non-perfect fluid by avoiding the introduction of exotic dark energy. We consider the first model in terms of deceleration parameter [Formula: see text] has a viscosity of the form [Formula: see text] and the other model in quadratic form of [Formula: see text] of the type [Formula: see text]. In this framework we find the solutions of field equations by using inhomogeneous equation of state of form [Formula: see text] with equation of state parameter [Formula: see text] is constant and [Formula: see text].

ABSTRACTPolycrystalline SiGe (poly-SiGe) film growth by reactive thermal CVD with a gaseous mixture of Si2H6 and GeF4 was investigated on various substrates such as Al,Cr, Pt, Si, ITO, ZnO and thermally grown SiO2.In Ge-rich film growth, SEM observation in the early stage of the film growth revealed that direct nucleation of crystallites took place on the substrates. The nucleation was governed by two different mechanisms: one was a heterogeneous nucleation on the surface and the other was a homogeneous nucleation in the gas phase. In the former case, the selective nucleation was observed at temperatures lower than 400°C on metal substrates and Si, where the activation of adsorbed GeF4 on the surface played a major role for the nuclei formation, leading to the selective film growth.On the other hand, the direct nucleation did not always take place in Si-rich film growth irrespective of the substrates and depended on the growth rate. In a growth rate of 3.6nm/min, the high crystallinity of poly-Si0.95Ge0.05in a 220nm-thick film was achieved at 450°C due to the no initial deposition of amorphous tissue on SiO2 substrates.

There has recently been a revival of interest in theories of liquid mixtures based on analytic equations of state for pure fluids. We have shown that the method used to determine the parameters of the pure-liquid equation of state has a significant effect on the excess thermodynamic properties obtained from such theories.

AbstractThis essay offers, in Section 2, a translation of al-Nawawī's presentation of the hierarchy of Muftīs. The context of the passage and its terminology and arguments are explored in the other Sections in order to assess their implications for the general character of Islamic juristic activities. Section 1 identifies two themes central to the text, namely loyalty to madhhab and differentiation of the task of the teaching jurist and the muftī. The first of these is elaborated in Section 3, which points to formal qualities of presentation and argument which assert the hermeneutical continuity of the school tradition; and in Section 4, which deals with the pivotal role of the founding imām in the legitimation of the school tradition. Section 5 takes up the terms taqlīd and ijtihād and shows that al-Nawawī's usage points towards a complex resolution of the recent debate about the open/closed door of ijtihād. The last Section returns to the original two themes to make two suggestions: (1) that taqlīd may be assessed as a principal of vitality within a hermeneutical tradition; (2) that the author-jurist (not the practising muftī) is the dominant creative agent within the ongoing juristic traditions.
